- More F350 suspension work: Sway Bar Links • 2000 F350 Replace Sway...
My 7.3 Powerstroke has been making a lot of suspension noise and the ride has been a little rough lately. To fix this I am replacing the front leaf springs. This ended up being a full day job for me because I have never done it before. It is not terribly difficult and will improve the ride, the noise and increase your ride height a little bit too. #powerstroke #ford #diesel #leafspring #fordsuspension #fordleafspring #diymechanic #73powerstroke
great instruction video, EXCEPT Music is way to loud
Thanks Luke. You're actually not the first person to tell me that. Its good feedback.
Great video
Thank you!
Super useful thank you
You're welcome. Thanks for stopping by.
Lot of work but doable
Hah. Yeah, it was a project, that’s for sure. But all those squeaks and groans I used to hear from the old springs are gone.
Is the rear harder or easier?
Don’t know. I still haven’t gotten around to doing the rears. I need to though because those new springs are still sitting around taking up space. Are you doing a spring replacement too?
@robertlewis8318 yes my truck when I bought it has a massive lift and 38" tires. I want to put a stock or inch or two lift on it.
Gotcha. I've been eyeballing that 2.5" levelling kit from Zone Offroad. Comes with an adjustable track bar. I think that would look real nice.
Do you remember the diameter of the square end bolts?
Hi. I did not measure them. I ordered from generalspringkc.com and I checked their website just now, they don't have measurements listed there either. I do remember that the new bolts that arrived had a fine thread, but my old ones had coarse thread.
@RLAutomotive-rwl3 Good instructional video.
@ Thank you!
what weight rating springs did you buy?
V-Code, since that was what my door jamb said was in there previously.
Stock leaf height or did you go 2/3 inch lift leaf?
Hey Kaleb. Stock height. My door jamb said V-Code and so that is the type of springs I went with. I know everyone says get X-Code but I didn't want to have a rougher ride. Are you doing this job too?
@@RLAutomotive-rwl3 eventually I need to do mine. mine are worse than your old ones lol but my injectors just went out so I'm going to get some Alliant AD injectors put in before I get to the leafs. awesome video though man! keep em coming!! 🤘😎
@@kalebevans7275 Good luck. I have not had to do injectors yet. But I've got a lot of miles on mine and I think I'm getting a little more smokey than I used to so its not too far in the future for me. What made you need to change yours? Was it a catastrophic failure, or preventative maintenance?
@@RLAutomotive-rwl3 im not really sure to be honest cuz it was running great one day and I parked it for 3 days and went to start it and it started once but the injectors were sticking and idling really bad like the idm was going out or went out completely. then I thought maybe it was just my valve gaskets and valve harness but I got tired of trying to figure it out and sent it in to a web known diesel shop in my area and they did an injector buzz test and mine are barely working so the trucks tired. the injectors went to 334,000 miles though so hopefully when I get the new ones it'll go another 300,000 or more lol.
Sounds good. Have fun and good luck with that injector replacement. It doesn't look like too bad of a job.
Great video, I did not care for the music. Had to put closed captions on and mute the sound.
Oh no! Thanks for letting me know.
@@RLAutomotive-rwl3 It's a me thing. I know you put a lot of work making the video.
Was the reason the axle was shifted over a bit, requiring the ratchet strap because the track bar angle became too steep throwing off the geometry?
My theory is an adjustable track bar would fix that.
That’s a good question. I didn’t really think about that but I think you’re right. I’m running my stock track bar. I must say, I’ve been eye balling the Zone Off-road 2.5 mini spring lift package and it comes with an adjustable bar. Have you done this before? Or are you planning on it?
@ so i just watched a video from geeks 4x4 and my theory is precisely the case. He used the adjustable track bar to center the axle under the truck. I purchased the adjustable track bar from “PMF” at his recommendation which is waiting in my garage to be installed. Its thiccc
X code leaf springs and the PMF adjustable track bar are my project this weekend. I’m watching as many UA-cam videos as I can to figure out how to do it.
Oh, nice, good luck, man.
With that front leaf rear shackle, what does that connect to? Is there a bushing in the frame?
Yes there is a bushing on the frame on my truck. It has some sort of mount that is bolted in place.
Why cant you just remove the 2 big bolts that go through the brushings? Why do the brackets have to come off?
Steve, I’m camping this weekend, so I’ll check when I get back. But from memory, those rear bolts are too long to pull all the way out. I think they hit the exhaust on the passenger side. Just seemed easier to take those brackets off. Are you gonna do this job too?
Steve. Getting back to you with some properly researched answers. You are correct about the rear brackets. But the front brackets, at least on mine, are positioned so that the bolt heads are in the inside next to the radiator. So the front brackets definitely have to come off so that you can pull the thru-bolt all the way out.
Which brand did you buy? Model springs?
I ordered V code springs from General Springs KC. I know X code springs are all the rage but they are stiffer and so you’ll sacrifice ride quality and I didn’t want to do that. They had a sticker on them saying Made in Indonesia.
