Thanks for watching Dog Training Basics 10 Things You Should Teach A Puppy. In the comments below tell me what skills you've been working on teaching your puppy!
I started to watch these videos since June, getting ready for a pup. And eventually i just took the step and has help us wonders!! I’m so glad i educated myself way before. The first thing my puppy learnt was sit, then stay and now he’s learning stay at just 9 weeks old. IM SO PROUD!!
I've been working on these the last few weeks with my 11-week-old, lab puppy. She's got a decent understanding of using the bells to go outside and walking on the treadmill too. I made "Drop It" a lot more reliable, by making it part of our fetch routine. Every time, it's "Go Get It", "Bring It Back", "Drop It", and "Sit". For the first couple days, I'd drop a treat when saying "Drop It". After that, she was so used to the routine, she didn't need the treats anymore. Thanks for your helpful videos.
Our puppy, 11 week old Ginger is a cavapoo. She has aced sit and loves her "house" crate. We started training on the "transport" crate yesterday...and found string cheese was just the right value treat to keep her engaged in that game. These videos are awesome!
Lou a Great Pyrenees 15 wks just demonstrated his first counter surfing! For a timid little guy I was very surprised that he was brave enough to climb up there! His snuffle mat was the main goal of his adventure. He is getting braver every day! Thank you for another wonderful video!
I just got an 8 week old Rough Collie puppy last week, and I'm very proud to say that Meatloaf is very good about telling us he has to go potty outside! He's also very good at telling us when he see's a cat, or a deer, or a bug, or his own reflection lol. My last puppy was a yellow lab, and we had him for 14 years, so I haven't "raised" a puppy since I was 12. I'm very excited to work with him and watch him grow into a big fluffy boy! We're currently working on sit, leave it (being get your butt away from that), and crate. We never used a crate for our lab, but I think it's going ok? He likes to chew on his bone in the crate, and he naps there sometimes during the day, but at night he cries and whines like he's dying. I take him out every 2 - 2.5 hours to do business, but it seems like it's taking him longer and longer to settle every night :( The crate really is JUST until he's old enough to hold his pee through the night though... Butters slept on my bed every night, and I plan to let Meatloaf do the same once I know he won't pee on my blankets or try to nibble my phone charger.
I love the names you come up with! You know I love food names for dogs. Pickles is my Cavalier. So glad to hear you're working on this life skill! Crate training is so useful for post spay/neuter surgery, emergencies, when pups can't be left alone out of a crate due to destructive nature, or safety concerns.
My pup and I have been following all your training in the online course-- and at 14 months, she's doing so great! We continue to work on all them to keep her sharp. #2, Crate and Pen Confidence was the first one she mastered, and quickly!

Found the channel, love the tips. Any ideas for helping my pup (9wk lab) at night? We stop food or water about 7, and she usually sleeps until about 10, after I take her out to potty she sleeps until about 3 and then whines to get out, I tried letting her cry to sleep but after an hour she didn't stop and turns out she peed in her crate.
Early training is going quite well, except jumping on the furniture as soon as my back is turned for a short moment! Would very much appreciate tip on which skill to use to address this. Many thanks

Have been on a binge watching all your tips! Thank you for helping all pet owners.❤️ I have a 12 week old puppy and anytime I leave him I his play pen he cries and cries if I’m not in the room. Is that separation anxiety already? He just came to his new home Sunday. Please help ☹️
Congrats! Here is our New Puppy Starter Kit to get you started off on the right paw! howtotrainadreamdog.com You might find the tips in this video helpful for preventing separation anxiety: ua-cam.com/video/aMXLc5CHtJk/v-deo.html
Unfortunately that advice will put him at a real disadvantage for reacting to new things for a lifetime. There's a critical window in which you can teach him more confidence and help him feel positively about new things. That window closes around 16 weeks of age. There is a way to take him outside - safely - before all his shots are complete. This video explains how to do that: ua-cam.com/video/vybaTk4wdGA/v-deo.html
Thank you so much for all your videos 💖 I have a question , one friend is buying a golden retriever puppy for her autistic child, how she can get a certification for her puppy so her child can be with him always?
No this is not safe. Check out our video for our best tips on the crate set up, and ideally you can make two separate set ups if you have two pups. ua-cam.com/video/Y6u73XN_rYQ/v-deo.html
Potty pads was already a thing here cuz of my moms dog. She is potty pad trained. She is like 10yrs old but will potty outside if u take her. My pup took to the pads quickly but goes outside more now
I have a 12 week old GSD puppy right now. We have been doing puppy preschool classes which helps a lot. I work with him constantly at home and know I have a good foundation coming along. I am nervous on picking which training step to take. The preschool recommended private lessons. My family member has had success like this. Will I be able to get the same out of your puppy program with just zoom?
@slything Great question! I love that you have been doing some initial training on your own. The Pro-Level is a great next step as you'll not only get the instructional how-to videos but access to the Facebook student group where you can post questions and practice videos, and where the trainers can answer your questions and give you feedback on your homework. You also get to join the student group Zoom calls which are super informative and give you a chance to talk directly with the trainers. With a private trainer, you pay a large sum of money to visit with a trainer for a short time, you only have what you can remember and the sessions are either pay as you go or one large lump sum. Our Pro-Level program gives you access to the trainers for 3 months, you could add on another month for less than what a trainer might charge for one hour of time. Here's the link if you'd like to learn more about the program www.howtotrainadreamdog.com/puppy-perfection-course-learn-more/
Ok but how do you get a 6year old maltipoo to just walk without constantly stopping to pee on everything. If we don’t encourage him to walk, he will just stay on our block and never really walk. If we are generous with treats, and encouragement he will easily walk a few miles perfectly. But getting going is always tough
Dogs like to sniff and pee on things. Walking is not the fun part for them. We recommend decompression walks where you let the dog go at his pace and explore all he wants. Distance does not matter for dog walks. He also might be a little overstimulated from the neighborhood. Check out decompression walk info here: ua-cam.com/video/mDsxEubfEKQ/v-deo.html
Thanks for sharing that! Using a crate is an essential part of raising and training a puppy. When used correctly with the proper training, crates are like cribs or playpens for babies and toddlers. They are used to keep your pup safe and out of trouble. Crates are the safest place for your puppy when you are away from home. Something to think about! The crate will also be used in many situations throughout your dog’s life, including medical appointments, surgery recovery, travel, grooming and even in the event you need to evacuate due to a natural disaster. Those situations are already stressful and if your puppy is comfortable in the crate, it can definitely help you and the pup.

Oh, and I have a eliminated the hidden route to the counter for his safety... it was not encouraged or welcomed just very surprising!
Good job managing the environment after his counter surfing, Heidi! Keep up the great work.

My puppy is aToy Poodle and we have been told he should not go outside to potty until he has his first 3 shots and his 1st rabies shot

@@HowToTrainADreamDog ok thank you 😊
The first thing that my puppy learned was to sit.
He was so wild coming out the crate until we had to get him calmed down first
So we started with sit
That's a great place to start!
