Great video - You are really providing us all with invaluable information. Your calmness (even though time is always an issue in watercolours) and to-the-point instructions and tips are a pleasure to watch. Many thanks! Cannot wait for part three!
I've only just realised the upload for this part 2 was less than hour ago. Good timing, only just watched part 1 and subscribed immediately. Good Sir, your work reminds me of why I loved watercolour as a child. 53 and just beginning my watercolour journey. Your work is an inspiration for this newbie. All the suggestions you make with brush and colour provide all the detail an eye needs. I can feel the sunlight and reflections, smell the salt air mixed with scent of the foreground soil and grass, I can hear the gentle breeze blowing through and around the boats, flapping tarps and sails. Just wonderful. Congratulations on a fantastic composition. 👍
Many thanks for your encouraging comments, they are much appreciated. There are studio notes as well as all the past videos on my website, www.andrewpitt.co.uk
I couldn't agree with Colin more! He has quite literally taken the words out of my own mouth. I am going to settle into my seat and complete watching part 2. I have so much that I would like to say after having seen the second portion of this phenomenal series of fantastic tutorials. Myself, I stopped only to grab a cup of coffee, feed my kitty and rush back to my tablet to see the second half. Needless to say, I subscribed immediately after seeing part 1. Amazing! 👩🦳🖌️
Oh, that’s very kind, thank you for your support. There are more videos and studio notes, all free, on my website - www.andrewpitt.go.uk@@deborahgoodwin3426
As usual Andrew another brilliant watercolour tip. No-one demonstrates watercolour videos as clear clear as you. And most of it done with a tiny brush.
Nice, I love the working brain, intuition, logical thinking, process, color names, etc. One thing I might have wanted is maybe "blink" of the source content now and then. Sorta what you’re doing yourself. You’re a great artist with a great heart and ability to share and teach.
Beautiful painting. It looked ‘alive’ from the moment you started in part one. And you live in a stunning part of East Anglia with lots of potential subjects. I have subscribed. Thank you.
I want to thank you again for proving such great lessons for all of us to enjoy and try to use in our paintings. I constantly try to follow your advice and am sure my painting has improved somewhat but am unable to achieve your richness of colour, your looseness and timing that make your paintings so special. Cheers.
I appreciate your remarks as you work. It is interesting to hear you thinking through the process as it adds a lot to the learning experience-so much more than just watching someone paint. Your approach to the sky is quite different from so many artists who start there first by saturating the paper and then painting it in. For some that is just a first wash and then they go back again. I would love to learn to use your approach as it makes so much sense. However, I’m afraid in our climate it will be impossible-108º F today. Even though the house is not that hot, the AC is running and that really dries things out very, very quickly as well. I am trying to learn to wet the paper, let it dry for a bit, and recognize at what point to go in quickly like you do and get it all in-once and done. I like your philosophy of doing it right the first time and then just leaving it alone.
Many thanks for getting in touch. I can appreciate your problem with the heat. And managing water is the hardest part of controlling watercolour. Cooling, rather than soaking, the paper with cold water might help. Good luck.
I have been following you for a few years now and love all of the content that you are so generously sharing with us! I even got your book and absolutely love it! Thanks again can't wait till next Friday!
Andrew Pitt’s latest book on “How to Paint Fresh, Loose Watercolours” is an excellent and compact book for both beginners and experienced watercolour artists who wish to learn and improve their skills with the pure watercolour approach. Unlike many other artists Andrew has clearly taken a different approach with this book. In the span of a 100 pages, Andrew successfully attempts to demystify the art of loose watercolour painting. He clearly defines what is meant by looseness and provides many tips on how to paint in a fresh and loose style, based on his long time experience. I’ve read other books and watched videos from other artists that tried to demonstrate loose watercolour, but I still ended up lost, and made no progress in understanding what was meant by loose style. Andrew’s book is informative and beautifully illustrated with many outstanding pure watercolour paintings. Its compact size is also great for trips. Beginners and experienced artists will be encouraged to pursue and renew their interest in painting in a fresh, loose style after reading this book.
Thanks very much for taking the trouble to comment so generously about my new book. With your permission I might try to find a way of sharing your feedback as it might help others decide whether the book will help them. Thanks again, Dirk.
Thanks very much Dirk. Our son who does all the tech stuff for us will add your kind words to the website. Enjoy your holiday. And thanks again. Andrew
Love this demo. Composition question-here the stand alone red sail he sees as a stop for the viewer’s eye. But often a bright mass on the edge of the painting may be a distraction! I see the red balancing the blues in the right, and maybe that’s why it works here?
I thought I’d get away with the red sail by using a cool red, mainly Alizarine crimson. It was a risk and you never know whether such decisions are going to be successful until your try them out. I guess I was just lucky. But risk taking adds a bit of life to a painting. Thanks for getting in touch.
Are these calligraphy paint brushes you are using in this video? Do you know what type or manufactured paint brushes they seem very soft tyoe of bristles...Enjoyed watching this video thank you fir part 2....💛🇨🇦🇺🇲🎨✍💛
Yes they are. They are Chinese calligraphy brushes. Most good art shops sell them. They are not particularly expensive. There is a video which covers all my painting equipment and materials on my website, www.andrewpitt.co.uk - just scroll through the videos.
No. Both books are for sale. No scam. We have received your PayPal payment of £23 - thank you. Can you please send me an email (info@andrewpitt.co.uk) with your full postal address. Thanks.
Your videos are for me the very best in the teaching watercolour in the time honored classical way.
