    Here's the outro song: Umpire - Collins Ave.
    • Umpire - Collins Ave. ...
    Hey!
    Today's Q&A is kind of in response to last week's video.
    Last week we talked about being "too young" for your dreams and I got a lot comments on YT and on the PYM Insta from people who weren't worried about being too young but being too old for their dreams.
    And that's exactly what I wanted to talk about but totally forgot to mention last time!
    This whole idea of this age game can be such a double-edged sword and hold so many of us back from just doing what you want to do.
    So in today's video I wanted to bust that myth and any other limiting ideas about being too old to do what you want to do.
    The truth is this, whatever you're here for, whatever you're made to do, you have EVERYTHING you need to make it happen already inside you and no number or idea of an age can stop you, unless you let it.

    What about when you can't seem to find the drive to pursue your dream when you have NO IDEA what your dream is? How do you find it? I misplaced mine!!

    I watched your speaking in public video and I'm still worried about my theatre class next school year. I love theatre and normally I can handle it, but recently I had an audition which I bombed. Now every audition is way more nerve racking that it's ever been. Advice? I bombed the audition because I was so nervous that I forgot my monologue and I never normally do that. Their faces showed the pity they felt for me and that made me feel the worst. How can I control my new nerves?

      Kylie G For me it always help is I prepare really good and think positive for the audition. Check "power posing" (tedtalk) and eat your favorite food and wear your favorite clothes. Do everything to be happy and confident.

    All of the examples you brought up are exceptions rather than the rule. Agism is alive and well even more so than sexism, racism and a lot of other -ism's. A good example, just ask anyone over 50 trying to find job. It's nearly impossible and the deck is stacked against you to the point you won't get an interview, no matter how qualified, experienced or skilled you may be. Once your age is determined, the application/resume goes in the trash.

    • @PeakYourMind
      @PeakYourMind  8 років тому +1

      +bradsky7464 Hey man, I appreciate your comment. In truth this whole channel in a way is about being the exception rather than the rule. To not succumb to the rule and "limiting ideas" that hold most people back. While what you said may be true for some, I disagree that it's the case for the majority. There's plenty of people that decide to change careers later in life. One guy in particular that came into the yoga studio I work at recently decided to do a 180 in his career and he's doing fine. Not to mention, it is illegal in this country to discriminate job applicants by their age. Corporations know this. Also, to me it's your mindset that determines how far you'll go and if you'll succeed. I have compassion for people who are struggling to find jobs but there is plenty of work available or even opportunities to set out on your own if people are willing to change their story from "the deck is stacked against me" to "these set backs can't stop me, other people have done it and I'm going to find a way". Along with that, there might be a necessity to re-tool and develop new skills in order to thrive in today's economy. I'm not saying it's easy and while it may be the exception, it's extremely possible. Just my thoughts, thanks for sharing yours.

    Yeah but no one wants to be an old famous person... No one really looks up to them, well I don't, they're all old and boring. The exciting stories are those of young stars.

  • @reg4321

    Yeah, you can be too old to hold on to dreams. This fantasy fake feel good line where I hear people say, "You're never too old" is a bunch of garbage. First off, there is rampant ageism and people who are older tend to get discriminated against. The world caters to a society's youth. They hold more value, because their mental and physical are still in tact. Older people are pretty ignored and thrown by the wayside.
