Dwight Fry was the actor's name who played Renfield in the 1931 Bela Lugosi "Dracula". He had such a creepy laugh.
Understand first and foremost: Alice Cooper is "Theater" and all these songs are for live stage shows... the wildest you've ever seen. In fact, Alice cooper invented Rock & Roll theater. Kiss, etc,.. ... they all exist because Alice Cooper set this giant stage for all to follow. And his work is on on the Dark side. So much so, that he was boo'd off stages in his early days and people ran from the theater. The ONLY guy remaining who was perplexed by this unique performance? Frank Zappa... who signed them on the spot.
Actually,it was Arthur Brown with his stage show for his hit "Fire",in 1968. He is the original shock rocker.
Every song on this album is a gem!
I enjoy seeing people reacting to and exposing people to Alice Cooper, he’s an under appreciated songwriter. I always thought his early albums were so raw and pure.
I've seen him live at least 12 times. Huge fan going back to when I was 12 years old. I have all his albums, even the mediocre songs are good.
This is one of my favorite songs. The first time I heard it, I immediately called my guitar player buddy and insisted we do this at the next band practice! :)
The Love It To Death album is just one of the best, especially this song.
Such a big Alice Cooper rabbit hole you can go down.
My first ever concert! 1971 I was 14. Alice Cooper opened for Steppenwolf and played the "Love it to Death" album which is where this song came from. "I'm 18" was that album's biggest hit at the time getting constant air play. I saw him once again a few years later when he headlined his Billion dollar baby album. Both shows were pretty amazing.. Great reaction!
This is during the time he went off the rails with drinking and was sent to a mental institution. According to Alice part of the inspiration for the song was when a guy recognized him. The guy told him he was going to kill him when they got out.
Listen as the guitarists make the sound of what his lunatic mind might hear it as in his deranged mind.
Alice Cooper was a band from 1967 to 1974. A solo artist after that. I prefer what you played, the band.
Love It To Death and the following Killer are the best of the Alice Cooper original band albums.
School's Out and Billion Dollar Babies are great as well, but the prior two are the more twisted albums.
I totally agree. He was better with the band. Unfortunately he's not now. Still love his music and shows

I was all-in on AC until the last new album I bought in 1978, From The Inside. That and the preceding Lace and Whisky were the two I didn't play to death. After From the Inside, I dropped out.
@@Royale_with_Cheeze both were good albums. I felt under appreciated. Alice is a very smart talented man. Who always finds great people to work with in his bands and shows. Thank you.
Grreat song and funny too.
Alice Cooper il est fantastique !
The Alice Cooper Band!
What a showman. He had a killer lineup both times I saw him too.
Check the live version. Very theatrical
I've been known to blast this song out onto my lawn for Halloween. Also "Sun Arise" off of the same album.
Great song from, in my opinion, Alice Cooper's best album...from before the Alice character's persona took over and they became more about the spectacle than the music.
I completely agree with you Kevin. "Love it to death" is my fav album by Alice Cooper and "His band". The sound affects and guitar work on this "original version" of Dwight Fry is the best version. Alice doing it live on stage without his former band mates it's just not as good as this original version.
@@Rhiannon011 yes, I saw this tour in when I was 12 at the Fillmore East in NYC. Everyone knew Alice Cooper as a band not a person. Their audience in 71 was definitely more on the freak side, gays, artists, hustlers, junkies, and pre-goth kids lol. Killer changed all that.
@@henrybrant-z4l I saw them around the same time frame as you, at the Hollywood bowl. They did the having Alice's head cut off deal and during the concert a helicopter was throwing out "paper underwear" all over the audience, it was hilarious but spooky at the same time..
@@Rhiannon011 I've heard about that, it was 1972 and Schools Out was already out. Sounds extremely wild.
I suggest Desperado, Killer, No More Mr. Nice Guy, Teenage Lament, You and Me, and The Black Widow. You and Me is a song he performed when he appeared on The Muppet Show, and The Black Widow, from his Welcome to My Nightmare album (which is also a great song.), has an intro by the great horror actor Vincent Price.
Hi you need to watch the live videos of Alice Cooper. To get the full Alice Cooper experience. As the godfather of shock rock. He needs to be seen and heard. Thank you
I believe 'Dwight Fry' is a character in the Bram Stoker novel 'dracula'.
Actually, he was a character actor in the 1930s, known for playing psycho's in movies.
@@hanierfamily Dwight Frye ; }
Let's see Home Free try and cover this. LOL!
You should have reacted to the officia.l video. It explains through Alice's show.
Alice's manager Shep said that when the gotte get out of here bit came he piled chairs over Alice so he would feel claustrophobic.
Should play the previous track "the second coming" first as the story continues to the ballad of Dwight Fry.
Definitely onevof my favorite songs
Def need to watch a live version!!
In the song, the madman is strangling the man, but in his mind, he is choking.
saw him live in 86 do this AMAZING
Thank you for reacting to this song. Coop killed it with this song. Please react to He's Back (The Man Behind the Mask) from Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives. Another classic Alice Cooper song.
The abrupt beginning is a transition from the previous song... The whole first side leading up to this song is pretty good solid rock and roll
Check out live version from trashes the world
Next song, sunrise. Listened to the album so much, ingrained in my brain 9:10
An old school icon. 🖖❤
If you want something Halloween ish try Steven from "Welcome to my Nightmare".
