I was obsessed with this album, Billion Dollar Babies, and School's Out during my high school days in the 70s. This song is still my all-time favorite.
This is a cool deep cut of Alice Cooper in their proggy ambitious hat. "Be my lover" and "under my wheels" were the big radio cuts from this album. It's a good album to start looking at the discography because it came out right when he was really blowing up with the 70s kids, so you are being introduced to his sound in the same sequence as many of his fans.
On the album “Love it to Death” on the “B” side are a trio of great numbers starting with “Second Coming” then “The Ballad of Dwight Frye” and “Sun Arise”. They used to just knock us out, dancing in a dark room with a black light. You might want to give them a listen.
Believe it or not Alice has been a born again Christian for 40 years, not to mention having been married since the mid 70s and a great dad. And you're right, a superb artist, especially in the 70s
Not that surprising in retrospect, a lot of his songs were morality tales, like "Dead Babies" was about parental neglect, and the shows always ended with Alice being punished. Not religious myself but Cooper seems like a solid guy, doesn't cram his beliefs down anybody's throat and does a lot of charitable work, quietly. Sucks he's getting pilloried lately for not having the correct up-to-the-minute views on gender issues, but I think he'll pull through.
WOW! The Killer album was the second album I bought with my own money as a kid. (Black Sabbath was the first...1969) I still have the little poster that was inside, of Alice hanging. All these years gone and I still have that insert. 😂
Alice Cooper, omg my first concert. It was promoting the album schools out, and I’m 18. I was 14 maybe. We were stoned outta our minds. Here was Alice Cooper flying over the crowd suspended by a cable, sitting on a giant toothbrush. Looking back, I wonder what my father thought as I listened to him. The 8 tracks..🤣. You know his father was a Methodist preacher.. funny
I saw Alice perform this live in a small casino venue with a few hundred people in Southern Cali. Mid nineties I think. It was so surreal because I been listening to him since I was a kid in the early seventies. It was like watching Friday the 13th on a large screen surrounded by woods back when it came out. \m/
Parents freaked out at what Alice Cooper did on stage. Back in late 60's it was cutting edge. Nobody was putting on a stage show set to rock music before.
Saw Alice 4 times in the 70's and 2 times in the 20-teens. The 70's shows were like Vegas or Broadway -- huge productions, stagecraft, multiple sets, clothing changes, boa constrictors, swords, hatchets, baby dolls, electrocutions, hangings, beheadings -- you get the picture. It was worth every penny. The more recent times he still has a bit of the stagecraft, but it's more about the music now (I believe his daughter is f the guitarist but not sure if she is still doing that). This song will forever be one of my all time favorites... but he has a huge catalog that I still can listen to today(Ballad of Dwight Fry, Hard-hearted Alice, Muscle of Love, and many more that do not get airplay.
Exactly, but he’s at least gotta listen to the intro “Second Coming” then it goes directly into “The Ballad of Dwight Fry” otherwise it’s gonna feel like he just dropped the needle in the middle of the song, not to mention missing out on that whole incredible intro of “Second Coming”.
Bro Alice was straight theater with a rock in’ beat. Yes his characters would die at a minimum of once during a show and we knew that going in. That just added to the way you were drawn in to the show like a movie waiting on the pivotal scene. A true showman. Look up his education credentials brother, that man is SICK in the best way.
Really glad you enjoyed this one T. Like many bands, the first 4 albums are revered by the old school crowd. They all were great musicians. Dennis Dunaway on bass! He still plays in a band called Blue Coupe with some X Blue Oyster Cult members! More 70s next month
I've never been to an Alice Cooper concert but do have 6 concerts on DVD that I watch again and again. I was in junior high when Alice released the School's Out album. Devoted fan forever.
Good to see you finally get into Alice! Check these out... "Under My Wheels" "Desperado" & the first song I heard from Alice, "GO TO HELL!" 👍 It's a DEEP dive to find ALL the greats, but it's a hell of a ride! The original Alice Cooper Band 68-74. They had two weird albums, then their third album in 71’ “Love it to Death” followed by “Killer” in 72’ followed by in 73’ “Billion Dollar Babies” followed by in 74’ “Muscle of Love” are all great albums. After that Alice took the name Alice Cooper as his legal name and went solo.
Part 2. I saw AC as you mentioned in 71. What an impression on a teenager. Snakes. Props, then it sure looked like he hung himself. No spit sharing though
Saw him in a gothic theater, on acid... It was AMAZING! Alice got his head cut off, then the executioner held the head up, & I SWEAR, THAT HEAD WAS SINGING!!! What a show! One of my top 3 concerts, maybe #1... I'd have to think about it. I've seen MANY concerts, lol.
@@mojoriot2293 see him in Detroit 5 or 6 times, he was hung, got the electric chair, had his head chopped off and I think it was singing actually if I remember correctly, got chased by a monster, but I was high as a kite at all his shows. Good times.
Alice Cooper shows were beyond words in those times. I got to see the killer tour - (he had a large snake he carried around, was hanged, played to the crowd, was there for the crowd.... it was a traveling type show) - while in middle school and bought the album that weekend. My parents bought me headsets for the single fmily stereo, and my brothers and parents all thought i was going to hell. Muscle of love was the last 'original' band tour for me.... Eons later, i was married (in our 34 yr), had two sons, and took them all to see AC, and they too became fans. So funny to think back to those days and society. I got last laugh as i grew up listening to some of the best music/artists ever.
Alice Copper you saved my life do to my job and personal life i had to hear that song from the movie frozen [let it go ] several times a day for 2 years. To keep from losing my mind I started to pretend it was sung by Alice Cooper. Now I'd like to hear a cover by Alice Cooper. If your out there Alice Copper please cover that song from Frozen❤
That's what I've been saying. Most people either only react to the music video for Poison or some react channels also do more songs but almost never check out his live performances even if the comments say to do it .
I listened to this album growing up as a teenager it was a masterpiece to me then and listening to it in your reaction gives me great pleasure because your experiencing what I did back in the day . This band is and always will be my favorite band. So glad I got to see them 1973 .
They had to come up with a show for the Detroit crowd With the likes of Iggy pop and mc5 so they decided to execute their singer on stage every night.- Dennis Dunaway Bass.
You NEED to react to the black out period alice the albums from 1980-1984 those are hidden gems alice rock mixed with new wave special forces and flush the fashion are my favorite albums of this period
I say this everywhere I can…his album Flush the Fashion is one of the greatest hidden gems in rock. Most of the songs on it are utterly incredible, especially the songs Pain and Clones. The follow-up Zipper Catches Skin isn’t too far behind. Interesting;y this was during the period when he was practically at death’s door due to his addiction problems.
“Pain” is easily my all time favorite Alice tune. So glad to see someone else bring this album up, cause you’re right, it’s really awesome, and a lot of people don’t even know about it.
People freaked out about his live show. He used to chop baby dolls up with an axe when they performed the song “Dead Babies”. There was a significant fixation on death in a number of his and he dramatized death in his concerts. This all caused quite a stir. Songs that had or implied a death theme: The Ballad of Dwight Fry, Black Juju, Killer, Dead Babies, Under My Wheels, Halo of Flies, I Love the Dead, Cold Ethyl, etc.
That same thing was said about Rod Stewart back in the day. I never believed that either. Never slowed him down in spite. Said it himself about being a big drinker and some songs he wouldn't sing today. I love his music. Him and Sammy Hagar are still kicking it.
When I saw the band, Alice was strapped to a table & beheaded by an ax. A cloaked executioner then took the head & sprayed blood out of its eyes onto the front row, discarded the head & showed self to be Alice; at the time he was known as a member of 'the magic castle'
I had the INTENSE!!! pleasure of seeing Alice Cooper in San Diego in '72 prior to heading to Vietnam on my Carrier. Yes, Alice had a live Boa Constrictor on stage, he hung himself, he cut his head off with a guillotine and bloodied doll babies. It was the MOST theatrical and best light show of all the concerts I got to experience in the 70's, all of them so good. High quality musicianship all the way around. They surprised us, for an encore, first time live, Schools Out. Ohhh man, blew us all away. hadn't hit the airwaves as yet. Love Alice, first class human. Don't let his antics fool you
That''s bull*** There was a lot of bull*** like that when they first came out. (The cup of....) One of the biggest stories had Alice biting of the head off a chicken. All Bull. They were simply a rock band who's schitick was theatricall stuff which they were the first to do that in a concert.. Yeah Ozzy got tagged with that one too, but Alice Coopers story preceded Ozzy's story by about 20 or 30 years. There is some great music in that album. (You Drive Me Nervous) stands out. It's the music! The music!. I was drafted iust after that album came out.
I've been to 5 Alice Cooper shows, 4 with the original band and one with his new band back in the late 70's. They were great shows. The original band was the best. First show I saw was Capital Theater in Passaic New Jersey, I think it was in 1972. They did the song Dead Babies at that show, But years later I found out that song is actually about child neglect. Great shows, always great to go down memory lane.
Major kudos and shot out to whoever requested this one. I couldn’t possibly think of a better Alice tune to get someone locked in than THIS ONE RIGHT HERE. Grew up an Alice Cooper fan in the 70’s, and Alice was one of the handful of 70’s rock bands that no one would ever give you grief over cause he had instant stirred cred.. likewise of Sabbath, the MC5, and Motörhead, among others. It’s a shame to see him sometime forgotten or overlooked when people are talking about really great original metal and hard rock bands. Alice really had kind of a crazed western outlaw kind of appeal, thanks to his smooth draw gunslinger sidekicks: the often overlooked genius of guitarists Glen Buxton and Michael Bruce. To me, they fit perfectly right there alongside greats like Mick Taylor of The Stones, Joe Perry, and early Peter Green. Great guitar work is the real backbone of the Alice Cooper sound, and this song bears that out as an epic rock composition that plays out like an Arabian Spy Opera in a Psychedelic Spaghetti Western. Anyways, when turning on to Alice at first, people often recommend “Feed My Frankenstein” for some reason. It’s a cool song, but really kind of a typical metal party tune that really misses the mark for showcasing what the band Alice Cooper was really good at: great compositions with truly clever madman lyrics. As I said, this is a great starting point.. and to follow up, I’d suggest a few key tracks like the infamous trilogy a couple of others have suggested: “Second Coming”>”The Ballad of Dwight Fry”>”Sun Arise”. It’s a 3-for-1 where each of these songs go seamlessly into the next making for one long creepy Alice EPIC about loosing your mind. It’s totally cool.. you’ll love it. Others I would suggest are: “Desperado”, “Black Juju”, “Under My Wheels”, “Generation Landslide”, and my personal favorite Alice tune: “Pain”.
People freaking out: - the snake. - hanging himself on stage no ! something years before that - Black Juju -------------------- check that song: "Black Juju" when he played this song on stage - a large number of squirmers left the concert hall. just play that song and you will understand.
I've been listening to the killer and love it to death albums since they first came out and they still remain two of my favorite albums of all time any genre!!!
I had the Killer album (good album) I also had a calander with him in a straight jacket. He's a big Detroit fan in sports. He could drink a case of beer in an evening.
The spitting in tne cup thing was an urban legend, along with a lot of other stories in the Alice Cooper legend. But Alice, the band and their management never refuted the stories because it raised their notoriety. They believed the more the parents hated them, the more popular they would be with the kids. They did however do other socially unacceptable things to enhance their infamy. Look up the chicken incident and the Piccadilly Square stunt for examples.
Saw him in 85, Alice is back tour. It was great. He was guillotined. The executioner pull his head out of the basket. Long time Alice Cooper band. Started listen to them when i was 9. Schools Out, what kid would not love that song. Use to sing their songs all the time. If i did that now in school, they would send me to a psychiatrist.
There was a reverend (I don't remember who)that stated Dead Babies was about killing children. Parents ate that up. It is a song about child neglect because the mother wanted to go out and party. Another bad article was about Alice killing animals on stage. What happened was someone threw a live chicken on stage. Alice being a city kid thought, chickens fly and picked it up and threw it in the air thinking it would fly away. It plunged into the crowd only to be stomped on. The spit thing is false. He did have someone dressed as Santa Clause during holiday tour and beat him up on stage. Killer is my favorite album of all time and Halo of Flies my favorite AC song. It was also the first album I bought. I was 12 or 13.
With just a couple of exceptions on every song on this album, somebody dies, is dead or get's killed. Hence "Killer" . Fyi...the spit cup thing was an urban legend, it never happened but back in the early 70's there were all kinds of wild stories circulating around Alice Cooper. As all publicity is good publicity Alice never denied some of these stories. You ask what the big deal was with Alice Cooper,? well I'll tell you. Look at what's going on in todays society with the LGBTQ world. Now Imagine yourself back in in 1971 and a man with a woman's name, wearing makeup and wearing gold lame' pants and a leather bondage vest , singing songs about dead babies, hangs himself in front of 15000 screaming fans. It wasn't just a middle class freakout, it was a world wide phenomenon. Alice Cooper released their first album in 1969 but it was mid 1970 early 1971 when Alice Cooper exploded into the zeitgeist. Again it was 1971 , the Beatles had arrived in the US only 7 years earlier and they freaked people out. Now imagine yourself as a Goldwater Republican and your asking yourself how did we get from the Fab Four to, Alice Cooper in only 7 years? All decent people were pretty sure Alice was the anti-christ and being 12, 13, 14 years old at the time it was so much fucking fun!. 50 + years later and I'm still a fan.
This and Steven are probably my favs. From him. Neal Smith on drums, very Underrated. He’s phenomenal. And yes being from Detroit I’ve seen him 3 times. His shows are amazing. Only Women Bleed was a great act. You should find that one and react to is with Tasha.
There are so...... many great songs from Alice Cooper (born Vincent Furnier the son of an evangelist of The Church of Jesus Christ). I highly suggest you check out his performance of "Welcome To My Nightmare" on 'The Muppet Show". Yes, on The Muppet Show in the 70s
I was 18 when "I'm 18" came out and had just graduated High School when "School's Out" came out. I was not impressed. I felt he was pandering for money and radio play. I remember when my mom drove me home from my last day of school the latter song was on our car radio. When we pulled into our driveway she let the song play out before turning the car off. possibly thinking it would mean something to me but it didn't. I was way more into the 60s love vibe, the Moodies, Beatles, Doors, Airplane. and the Dead. This track, however makes me think way more highly of him.
They had a sound like no other. Everyone noticed them. Alice intentionally did things to make people go nuts. Halo of Flies he looked like a sorcerer. Things like that drinking spit never did it. He probably started the rumor. Ther was ne show where someone tossed a chicken on stage and as a city boy, he didn't know they can't fly. He tossed it over the audience and when it came down The audience tore it up by fighting over it. The media told a story where he had ripped it's head off and drank the blood. The next time they played thy had chickens o stage and were accused of doing a song called stomp the chickens. As Alice aka Vince Fournier said make them talk about you then improve your image. He was sharp.
Been a long time I heard this one... Not my favorite, sounds a bit too much like Deep Purple, or Iron Butterfly. Probably due to that synth sound from the 70s. Still, he is a MASTER frontman, & a HELL of an entertainer! 🤘😎 Try the song "UNDER MY WHEELS!" Fast & jammin' & a hook even a full fish would bite! A great driving song for sure!!!
Yeah, the original Alice Cooper band was unbeatable; I lost interest when he started working with slick studio cats but I'll always be a fan of the guy.
OK, not sure if this was mentioned yet or not.. but A: he took a live chicken back in a show from the 70's, and threw it into the audience, and the audience tore it apart and it mae headlines. He thought chickens could fly, so that was why he did it> B: he made up a myth that he got the name Alice Cooper from a Ouija board of an old dead witch so needless to say that fed the religious frenzy back then, too. Though in reality he's a preacher's son, and a born again beleiver. He even says in some of his interviews he made sure to stay away from satanism and things like that. I think there was even a reason behind his makeup too, but I forget that one. He has a concept album called "From the Inside" about his stint in a mental hospital and trying to get clean from alcohol and drugs.
The spitting in a cup sounds like total rubbish but you can bet your life Alice didn't deny it. I'm 66 and go to every concert in Manchester UK. The guy is a consumate entertainer. Been a fan since I was 14 when my brother brought home his first two albums from a German trip.
No, no, no; the cup of spit thing is an urban legend. You used to hear that one about Cooper or sometimes Zappa, there was also one that involved him eating his own poo onstage on a dare, another one where he passed out after the show and paramedics had to pump a gallon of semen out of his stomach. Heard that one about Cooper, Bowie, Elton John, Rod Stewart, basically any rock star teenage boys thought was a "queer"; all utter horseshit, but a lot of '70s 13-year-olds were absolutely convinced it was true.
I dont buy that spit drinking thing. His theatrics scared our parents and they didnt want us to see him. KIss too. He's not gross like that and been sober since the From the Inside album I think. A long time. Ted Nugent is also sober.
The original Alice Cooper band was one of the greatest rock bands ever. I said what I said.
And you would be correct!!!
I agree 💯💯💯
Yes ... so good, then they went off the rails................. went for the money
I was obsessed with this album, Billion Dollar Babies, and School's Out during my high school days in the 70s. This song is still my all-time favorite.

Under My Wheels is one of the best album openers, ever.
This was the first album I ever bought as a teen in the 70's. Best song on the album!

THIS! A THOUSAND PERCENT!!
Totally agree my guy!!!
No doubt that's the trilogy to hit!!
That is definately the Cooper tri-fecta to crank
Believe it or not Alice has been a born again Christian for 40 years, not to mention having been married since the mid 70s and a great dad. And you're right, a superb artist, especially in the 70s
Absolutely. As a fellow Christian I love it!!!
And a good golfer.

Nobody reacts to the old Alice songs! This is awesome. Keep going!
Alice Cooper just recently released his 39th studio album, The Road. He's still going strong at 75 years old.
Great reaction, you need to listen to the whole album it has a theme running through it
His Greatest Hits is the best greatest hits album ever and Brutally Live is the best concert DVD ever

Don't let his antics fool you
I forgot to mention that they played the complete Killer album, AND it was killer!
He's a devout Christian now ❤
That''s bull*** There was a lot of bull*** like that when they first came out.
Definitely BS
One of my favorites by Alice. He was a close friend with Glen Campbell, both superb musicians. Cooper is the opposite of Marilyn Manson off stage.
People freaking out:
- the snake.
- hanging himself on stage
no !
something years before that
- Black Juju -------------------- check that song: "Black Juju" when he played this song on stage - a large number of squirmers left the concert hall. just play that song and you will understand.
I've been listening to the killer and love it to death albums since they first came out and they still remain two of my favorite albums of all time any genre!!!
Passing a cup... urban legend and Alice says it is not true.
Alice has a lot of things to be not proud of, that is not one of them.
I had the Killer album (good album) I also had a calander with him in a straight jacket. He's a big Detroit fan in sports. He could drink a case of beer in an evening.
Dwight Fry 👍
Is It My Body is the sum of what our parents were so afraid of...
(ck the live version with his snake)
Does anyone still have/remember the girls paper panties from the Schools Out album or the billion dollar note from Billion Dollar Babies album?
Alice is the best
The original band were all amazing musicians
You nailed it with the Headlines Reactions.....most of the crazy stories never happened..
Such a tremendous song!
Ballad of Dwight Frye
Essential reaction
The songs Steven/The Awakening are excellent AC songs to react to.
This and Steven are probably my favs. From him. Neal Smith on drums, very Underrated. He’s phenomenal. And yes being from Detroit I’ve seen him 3 times. His shows are amazing. Only Women Bleed was a great act. You should find that one and react to is with Tasha.
Vincent Furner (aka) Alice was the son of a preacher
Alice and Marylin are friends. If not friendly with each other.
Is this song about a cold war spy or something?
It’s like Pink Floyd doing a punk album
Been a long time I heard this one... Not my favorite, sounds a bit too much like Deep Purple, or Iron Butterfly. Probably due to that synth sound from the 70s. Still, he is a MASTER frontman, & a HELL of an entertainer!
🤘😎 Try the song
"UNDER MY WHEELS!"
Fast & jammin' & a hook even a full fish would bite!
A great driving song for sure!!!
Listen his song "Go To Hell"
Yeah, the original Alice Cooper band was unbeatable; I lost interest when he started working with slick studio cats but I'll always be a fan of the guy.
OK, not sure if this was mentioned yet or not.. but A: he took a live chicken back in a show from the 70's, and threw it into the audience, and the audience tore it apart and it mae headlines. He thought chickens could fly, so that was why he did it>
B: he made up a myth that he got the name Alice Cooper from a Ouija board of an old dead witch so needless to say that fed the religious frenzy back then, too.
Try Muscle of Love.
He's better now , shows are much better
More Alice Cooper, welcome to my nightmare 🧐👻👺
No, no, no; the cup of spit thing is an urban legend. You used to hear that one about Cooper or sometimes Zappa, there was also one that involved him eating his own poo onstage on a dare, another one where he passed out after the show and paramedics had to pump a gallon of semen out of his stomach. Heard that one about Cooper, Bowie, Elton John, Rod Stewart, basically any rock star teenage boys thought was a "queer"; all utter horseshit, but a lot of '70s 13-year-olds were absolutely convinced it was true.
Could please react to some of his live shows as well
you guys should react to Ben Dunhill’s cover of “Lose Yourself” by Eminem of course, it’s a jazz cover of it and it’s so good
Have a look at Kasey Chambers cover of Lose Yourself. Deconsructed then reconstructed
Ummm, Your voice is really outstanding, I hope you get work using it. If you don't, it's a crime.
That story of him drinking the spit is not real. The rest is.
Only great album is Love you to death
Alice Cooper is a good Man. He Loves the Lord Jesus Christ 💪. That's what Counts. Great Cars to. Detroit Grit 🇺🇸☕
I dont buy that spit drinking thing. His theatrics scared our parents and they didnt want us to see him. KIss too. He's not gross like that and been sober since the From the Inside album I think. A long time. Ted Nugent is also sober.
Good reaction thumbs down because I didn't like the song.
Whaaatt!!?? The song was killer.
This!!! Best American band to ever exist!!! This album is epic.
