DIY Custom Leather Patches // 3D Printing
Вставка
- Опубліковано 28 лют 2019
- In this video I make some custom leather patches using a 3d printed die. This was my first time modeling something in a cad software as well as my first time 3d printing.
*Note- This project only works with veg tanned leather because it is the easiest to emboss.

#3dprinting #Leatherworking - Навчання та стиль
Watched this this morning and have been experimenting during the day with embossing a patch for my EDC.TWO project. Thanks for the tips!
This is a great idea Miles! Thank you for sharing with us. I felt the video provided plenty of information and details. I think I'll have to give this one a try myself. Well done!
Great job Miles, glad to see you back at it!
Beautiful work LOVE IT thank you for sharing.
Awesome work, Miles! You're crushing it.
You’re a very talented editor! Great work, very enjoyable to watch!
Nice job! No need to soak leather for five minutes. Wet it for thirty seconds or so. Then let sit until original color starts to reappear. Then it's ready!
I realise three years have passed since you posted this video... but credit where credit is due.
My wife has just bought an expensive travel-shoulder bag. I thought that a tag embossed with her name would be a stylish finishing touch, but I know zilch about embossing/debossing! Never fear, let's research it on the "University of UA-cam"! The first three videos were depressing rubbish, and left me rather despondent, then I found yours. Clear, well produced, nicely paced, thorough, up front about your lack of prior experience, and best of all you nailed it with a really great result! Many thanks, Liked & Subscribed.
I will definitely check out your channel for more gems.
Dang Miles!! That looks amazing! : ) Oh, and the videography is on point! : )
Great project and nicely edited Miles!
Finally an upload from this man
Nice work dude, you make some great videos.
So cool, dude! Those came out great. I'm definitely trying this
Thank you! you should send me some pictures or make a video!
Nice job man. Great edits on gijr video and the patches came out great looking
I love this great job
Nice work Miles, thanks for sharing!
BTW, you don’t have to soak the leather in water, just use a wet sponge to sponge the water into the leather.
The patches look great Miles!
Thank you Justin!
Bro keep doing what your doing, this channel is headed towards something great.
Thank you so much!
Miles this was really impressive. I'm going to be trying it. Those patches would be a great asset to so many things. Well done.
Thank you! I'm glad this inspired you to try it out! Good luck ;)
Thanks a lot. your idea is perfect.
Thank you very much ;)
Nice work Miles! Keep it up!
Thank you Brian!
awesome
Great work, Miles. I love this! Question: Do you have a suggested source for the leather?
nice project congratulations. May I ask you how many millimeters is the relief of the stamp?
Good!!! El líquido que es??
Did you give a try dyeing the stamped sections to highlight them but leaving the rest undyed?
Amazing. Do it with a Adidas, Champion, Supreme, Nike Logo
Awesome job Miles. Was Fusion 360 an easy program to use? What kind of a file did you have to save it as, to send it for the 3d printer?
Hey thanks for the comment! Yeah fusion is pretty easy to use, it can be very complicated at first but that was second time using it. I'm pretty sure I saved it as an STL file in fusion and then used the splicing software for the 3d printer to generate the toolpath.
Make a goruck gr1 style backpack... u def exceeded my expectations with the edc bag
Thank you! I'll go check out that backpack, I definitely want to make one at some point!
That's excellent! Do you created more 3D models, or do you know someone who can make one? Thank you
Thank you! I create my own 3d models in fusion 360. Its a free software if you are a student ;)
Nice, btw do you know what type of filament you used? Looking to see if 3d printer is viable for making my own custom stamps. Thks
Thank you!! haha, I really don't know much about filament, but I'm pretty sure it was PLA
@@MakeWithMiles good to know, ill look into it more. Reason why is i want to find out what would be most shock/compression resistant for making stamps. Usually an arbor press is used with leather stamps but a clamp like yours or even a set of C-clamps works just as well.
Nice
Thank you!
How to order.. Steel one!
Springfield Leather , circles
You could make artwork for others who are looking for stamps like me.
Ever try opening a can and using that to cut the circle of your leather out?
That's a great idea!
Can this process work on artificial leather?
I'm not so sure, it might be worth a try though!
is this possible with fake leather?
I haven't tried that before, but I don't think that plastic leather would react the same in warm water.
CAD with a trackpad?..... Pretty sure that's illegal...
Haha, don't worry, I have a mouse now ;)
@@MakeWithMiles Haha, I'll let the CADpolice know it's ok then ;)
Soaking the leather for 5 minutes is unnecessary. Simply dipping the leather into the water would have been sufficient, especially since you used a vice to press the stamp and leather together.
Leather does not have to be saturated to take a good impression. I have been leather crafting for over 7 years, so I know better. I have messed up a project before by other saturating the leather before stamping.
