The beginning of this video is a perfect, small window into the effort needed for and the beginning of the issues for an FSFC for GH with all the engine differences and weird quirks of each game. It's totally the kind of wild variation you really have to feel to understand well.
I honestly thought the fc was going to be All Nightmare Long, i find that one of the hardest mainly due to endurance on the strumming but should have known it would be this, by the way THIS GOES HARD ON MUTE!
every on console games tap notes have had some inconsistency issues. sometimes you can spam and hit everything and sometimes you can be frame and button perfect and you can't hit shit. it feels like there are certain frames when the note crosses or is about to cross the strikeline where the game just wont detect a tap input. lost many fcs to this especially in metallica and WT Good shit on the fc man. this fgfc is brutal
I remember playing this with my dad and sister, my dad on the drums, sis on the guitar and i played bass, its funny how i managed to survive on expert in this game but i cant hit crap on clone hero lmfao
For me it´s the opposite. I could play pretty easy songs like Rise against - Saviour barely on hard on ps3 and now on CH i can play Dragonforce on expert without dying :D CH is far more forgiving especially with tap notes, i couldn´t hit shit when tap notes came along back in the day

[they are sligthly more hittable there, very noticeable actually some of the improvements on both M and SH after playing WT and wanting to slam the controller, think VH actually is almost like GH5, alot better] BTW cool seeing game footage with backgrounds, especelly for Metallica, such cool mocap. EDIT: As i now stumble upon a comment, would be cool if you tried like the bass chart of Dyers eve, at least to play trough it if anything.

Would anybody be able to explain what about the engine makes the tap notes so bad? Is it just an extremely small timing window, is it buggy or bad at registering inputs for them?
Taps have the same hit window as HOPO's, but the biggest thing that makes them actual tumors is that they can overlap. If you hit a tap late, and there's another tap right after it, you might hit the one ahead instead of the one you actually wanted to hit, which is why that orange wall in Satch Boogie is so infamous. For the record, HOPO's can overlap too, but it's much rarer that it happens compared to taps.
The hit window overlaps, so its possible to hit notes in the wrong order [because screw note orders am i right] Its mostly World Tour where its absolute cancer. The issue is less prevelant in Metallica but its noticeable, VH kinda almost does away with it. GH5, BH and WOR still suffer from it but they made them a lot better so any remaining flaws kinda dissapear with the GH's larger hit window.
World Tour engine drives me insane. Funnily enough it's not that bad in WT itself, but Shits and the band games based on it make me want to welcome the Grim Reaper into my living room
I’ve spent hundreds of hours on this game specifically and one issue I’ve noticed is that when the tempo of the song switches to something new and then switches back to something faster (master of puppets for example) the notes do not sync up with the audio anymore. You have to find a time to pause the game and resync. It’s super frustrating
bet Activision was like "oh no we've made tap notes too easy you don't even need to strum how do we make it tougher? ehhhh just add a bunch o bullshit!"

I went back playing gh Metallica on 360 and oh boy…. It didn’t go as good like I had hope. I remember I was able to all star fade to black on expert. I don’t know if maybe my 4K smart tv can’t hold old tech or my skills had fade away due to being a teenager at the time.
I only have guitar hero games on Wii, so I'm locked to 30 FPS and I've somehow FC'd 2 songs on that piece of junk console. Sure as hell was not easy and I've never repeated them, but I at least have the gold stars as a memento 😅
So Metallica has been full game FC’d now. So which ones are you missing FC’s from now? Only ones that come to my mind are GH1, Van Halen, and Smash Hits.

Am I correct in the assumption that sliders don’t have infinite frontend? I was playing VH for the first time today and just played like it was GH2 and that helped a lot.

Low refresh rate plus tiny hit window means that sometimes your tap input gets eaten.
GuitarHeroROXS also talks about it a bit in the description of his Satch Boogie FC video.

See if your TV has a Game Mode option for lower input latency. Helps out a lot with rhythm games on modern TVs
