I've made peace with the fact that soad has no future and ill just be forever thankful they gave us some legendary bops.
Every band only exists for a limited amount of time. Some of the most legendary bands actually have a very short life span.
The music will always remain iconic and has become timeless already.
They are a legacy band at this point in time and that's the best solution, considering their creative differences.
Saw the thumbnail and thought it was JonTron at first 💀
😂😂😂
Same, Jack
READ MY MIND
hahahaaha only opened the video to say this
Came here to comment the same thing. I was like oh new jontron video, wait a minute soad.... oh shit that's Daron 😆
Life is so short, they still have it in them all
I don't think serj likes new system material since mesmerize. He doesn't wanna put out music he doesn't like. I don't blame him. The others just wanna push whatever will come
@@Derekjordanger He doesn't like to put out music he doesn't like? Did he listen to his own new material, just wondering... :P
@@ANiCKiN 🤣
It’s been 20 years so I really don’t think we’re going to get any new albums ever again but hey I could be wrong
Or they will end up tarnishing the legacy by getting a white blonde woman to be their new vocalist.
@@Siciliancivilian that would be bad, but if they did it like linkin park did, it would be dope!
@@wnetushe really is talking about linkin park ruining their legacy 😂
@ Sorry, my sarcasm wasnt strong enough, hope he gets it though

I'd love to hear "Spiders" live just once...
Too much to ask, first album didn't earn enough millions so it's shunned now
I heard it live at pledge of allegiance tour! Great show!
@infinidominion they played half of the first album when I saw them in 2017
I saw them support Sabbath with Godsmack and Drain back in December 1999 when they were still promoting the first record. They blew through so many songs so quickly, they must have played Spiders. God I loved them back in that era, the first record is still my favourite and I still have the signed Polaroids from meeting them after the show.
I’ve had the honor of hearing it live twice. Once in 2018 and again in 2023
Even if it doesn't live up to the hype if past albums, I'd love to hear the other music they wrote during that time of great music writing.
Hopefully they continue to tour.
Yeah, I'd hope to see them once again live in Europe or even Germany. That would be awesome.
Serj doesnt want to tour anymore, because he says its too repetitive and he has back problems. thats why system is only playing 3 shows this year. it's only a matter of time before serj decides to stop touring. For now they will be playing a few shows a year
They didn’t say, that they breakup
They’re doing 12 shows this year
@@ito12347they have 6 North America dates and like 7 more in South America
System of a Down uses a lot of tonal scale structures that are like what one would hear in Middle Eastern music, based on what Daron said in his interview, he revealed that his mom was a singer, and even had records out of her singing songs that were popular in the Armenian culture. He said something like that those sounds just come out when he writes, like someone who has been raised in areas where they play the blues a lot may have a tendency to write and play music that they grew up exposed to, it's no different than that. I think that is one of many things that make them unique in how they sound.
Well there really isn’t a future tbh
Scars on Broadway is amazing, keep at it Daron!
That name is bogus tho
@infinidominion name is pure gold though
not even close to SOAD, lack's Serj spark
I used to love SOAD and still like their music. I just always found it ironic that even though they were always singing about how bad war was, they still couldn't get along with each other.
Having disagreements with people is one thing. Letting those disagreements get so far out of hand that innocent people are killed is quite another. I don’t see the hypocrisy.
the problem is that while serj was broke, bitching about life not being fair and all the problems on this planet fitted perfectly, but when success brought financial security.. there was no more need for bitching. end of story.
@@dindrmindr626 that's typically the revolving door of good musicians altogether.
war is not fighting over a disagreement you have with someone, it's giving your life and taking others for a disagreement two other dudes had... it's a "little" different...
@@kadriblabali I get that brother, but wars are all started due to disagreements. I understand the difference in scale. It's just the "why don't we all just get along" mentality is clearly not being realistically performed in those who preach about it.
I’ve held out hope for a new album ever since Hypnotize/Mezmerize, and at this point, I’m just grateful to have seen them at least once. Saw them last year at Sick New World, and it was an awesome show. Their discography is indeed legendary, and I’m just happy to be a fan. I hope they can at least put out one last record, or even a record of the unreleased songs they’ve held onto.
The first two albums are classic. Everything else I can take or leave. That said, I feel incredibly lucky to have seen them live here in the UK around the time Toxicity dropped. I think at this point anything else is tarnishing the bands legacy. People change. Audiences change.. and sometimes the past is best left as the past. It’s all love.
Best take on this. Personally imo their last 2 albums couldn't hold a candle to their first 3, and I'm glad they're not putting out new stuff. They had their time in the sun.
Even if we don't get any more albums, there will always be a demand for tours.
What demand for touring? They played a handful of shows realistically in the last 2 decades, SOAD will never be together like we all want them to be again
Stone cold shirt, nice! Ahhh hell yeah!
And that’s the bottom line!!!!
@@RockFeed ...'cuz Stone Cold said so!
What!! 💀
Its pretty sad. They had an opportunity to make tons more great music for a massive audience, seems like such a loss. Imagine how different metal may have been if they had been releasing music this whole time.
Idk, based on their last 2 albums, I have a feeling that we would have gotten a lot of forgetable same-ish mediocre music. I'm glad they stopped instead of potentially ruining their legacy.
The intro to Fear Itself got me into Serj's solo tracks.
The gist of the matter, putting together the forcedly diplomatic statements of Daron and Serj, is quite clear by now: each is entrenched in his positions and neither of them wants to give an inch, placing, more or less veiled, the blame for the hiatus on the other. Daron wants to continue as has always been done, with him in the role of "leader" who gives the direction and provides most of the material to work on. Serj, on the other hand, wants something more "democratic", let's say: everyone gives their artistic contribution equally and equally divides the burdens and honors. At this point, it's better for SOAD to limit themselves to playing gigs. I'm happy that, finally, a new Scars album is coming out, where Daron can express himself as he wants without having to answer to anyone. I can't wait to listen to it and be inspired by his new songs.
As an aspiring wannabe guitarist and composer, I have to side with Daron. Sometimes, being too democratic in a band can be counterproductive. Just like a kitchen can only have one chef for obvious reasons, when two chefs constantly clash, things can turn sour quickly. Perhaps Serj should step back, and Daron's vision as the primary composer might be the only way System of a Down can continue to create music effectively. If it works, don't fix it.
@@franciscoarriagada2102 Toxicity is their most iconic album and it is from an Era, where Serj and Shavo were more involved in writing. While Mesmerize and Hypnotize were almost all Daron.
I respect his talent and abilities, but it's not a good idea to try and take the lead in a band of four uniquely talented individuals. That will lead to frustration and making uninspired music.
Both SOB and Serj's solo music are good, but both feel like 50 % SOAD and are missing something.
They really are best and most powerful in harmonious symbiosis. For which equality is necessary.
@@eulennachathen449 I agree. Besides, they are at a point in their career where they can really not give a damn about charts and sales. They are an iconic and respected band, they made a living. They can really just make music for the fun of it. So Daron, Shavo and John should stop worrying about "being big", letting Daron take the helm, and try to experiment bringing their own creative contribution, as Serj asked. Something really spectacular could come of it. But it will never happen.
@@giuliomartini5523 Ego is it's own worst enemy sometimes...
Wrong. Daron said they had fairly democratic elections on System’s material, but Serj in the end no longer wanted to be part of it. Daron was always the great genius behind System both in the first albums and in the last ones, people believe that because he started singing more in the last works of System this music was more of Daron but it is not like that, it was always largely Daron all the time only that in the end his music evolved for that more melodic path
Lyrically they shouldn't struggle to find topics for lyrics. They might need to open their minds to create the music though.
Thanks for the update 🔥🔥
Guess I'll keep taking what I can get🤘🏾🤘🏾
We used to call the genre 'experimetal' just seemed to fit. Deftones is my #1 favourite band of all time btw
Excellent rock news !! Yes!! 🎉
Soad was and still is a band i would love to see because I know it would be only once in a life time thing at this point in my life and the time of mid 90s & early 2000s of rock metal and nu-metal era that was and still my childhood I've only seen two of my favorite bands from that time that are still putting out music and have evolved over time breaking benjamin and disturbed here in the Cleveland area but during thier main time we here in the US had a very tragic event happen that I believe it had play in the fact of soad go on hiatus for what seems/seemed indefinite but once I found all 3 side projects you could say we never lost them in the first place
One of my favorite bands! I would love to see them in concert...
If the tickets weren't so STUPID EXPENSIVE... $150 for nose-bleed seats, 300+ for anything else...
Ticket prices in the USA gone up too? Prices in Australia have risen...
Let's get over it! It's been 20 years
Rock Feed opening up another can of whoop news on us! Rock on, Dude!
I’ve been talking about this with a friend and we’ve been saying that they could’ve always put out an album of B-sides or some sort of greatest hits record but have the latest two songs (Protect the Land and Genocidal Humanoidz) be the opening two songs and we’d be happy, but I do still understand Daron’s thoughts and I’d be happy with whatever happens next (Also I’m really hoping to see them in Toronto with my friends because we’re all massive SOAD fans and I never knew when/if the last time they ever came here)
Hopefully they put whatever differences they have aside. And make some new music. 🤘🤘
Every Nu Metal band ever We are Not Nu Metal
Pretty fair tbh, most of the people don't even know what nü metal actually sounds like it's bands like Mudvayne, Snot, Nothingface, KoRn and Deftones (in their first years), Static X etc... that sounds like actual Nü.
100% agree with tours are more important then a new album.
I know a lot of people don't like him much but... I'm old (52) and have followed him for many years but... Eddie Trunk had a really good in studio interview with Daron a couple weeks ago. I'm not certain exactly how long it was but, if you have the Sirius app it's definitely worth checking out! Thanks as always Brian! 🤘🏼💙
Not Daron. It was Shavo
The problem is they haven't done very many actual large scale tours in over a decade. Mostly one time shows, festival performances etc. My issue with this is the tickets sell out faster than the blink of an eye. And I would imagine many of them are those who have already seen them a number of times anyways. There are many fans who will simply never see SOAD live, myself included. By the time I ever get confirmation of a scheduled show, tickets are gone, and that hurts more than having waited for a new album that atp will likely never drop. Even Tool has managed to outpace them on content/touring and that's saying something given their age and intricate musical talents.
I will always love SOAD, but I'm beyond hyped for new Scars on Broadway.
I love SOAD but I wish they would release new music
Well this is like the 3rd time you got my attention. I was subbed for some time before, but don’t remember why I left. Maybe third chance the charm. Bring it. ☮️🙌🏼
I bet Finn Mckenty cant wait to see SOAD perform.
The Thumbnail is totally JonTron.
I saw SOAD 20 years ago at OzzFest. Tighest band I've ever seen.
We must not have been at the same show. Derek sounded so bad and so did Serj. Serj was the worst. Constantly out of breath. Couldn’t sing for his life. It was such a disappointment. If you can’t play live how you record, you suck and are only good in the studio. They never got better
@davidstowlehouse4920 That sucks. I saw them north of Sacramento. Sleep train amphitheater or something.
Even if they made a new album now, it wouldn't be the same as 20 years ago. They are different people with a completely different energy now.
I do respect SOAD for quitting at their peak though, instead of trying to release music despite creative differences and becoming uninspired or mediocre. That way their legacy remains impeccable and untarnished.
They play gigs as a legacy band now, which is the best solution, considering the situation.
All in all, a graceful and intelligent band.
Exciting news! Btw. are you growing a mullet? Serious question!
I really could understand if every single band/artist in existence refused to release new music, and just gig with what they've written so far, at this point.
Thought it was JonTron in the thumbnail 🤣
I love system. I would say they were a mixture of Korn and tool. I think it's the song hypnotize form system that reminds me of tools song sober. I think it's the riffs.
They're running out of money, time to do some shows
that mid 2000s vibe is long gone, so is SOAD, let it rest in peace.
Unless the interview took place last year, I think daron said it would be a next year release.
Sugar!!!
Hey man like the shirt, my brother was named Austin because my dad was such a big stone cold fan
And the bottom line is that's an awesome Stone Cold t-shirt dude 🥶✊🏼🍻🍺.
I agree with you. I’m totally ok with them touring every once in awhile, and maybe a song or two every few years like they done for the Azerbaijan fundraiser some years back.
System keeping their current discography and still playing shows would be more honorable than if they got together to release material that was less substantive for the sake of releasing music. I would trade good performances over mid artistry, and im sure they would too.
Have a feeling this year will be the last so very glad have my PIT ticket for Soldier Field!
There was Korn and then there were bands that wanted to be like Korn and that's it. You can definitely see the influence in soads early stuff.
Wow, I guess you're right. Korn was like nothing else back in their day 🤘
not really
Korn may have been one of the pioneers of nu metal but sound nothing like them. Just like korn doesn’t sound too much like their influences. Soad was always the sevendust/deftones type nu metal to me rather than the low tuned groove of the korn type.
Soads music was written in 1992-1994 for the first record. This is not accurate about system but understandable inference
Daron's solo shit is amazing. Sounds very similar to SOAD. It scratches that itch for me.
Only if you like the C# tuned crunchy AC/DC guitar sound that was Mezmerize/Hypnotize. Their older stuff before those albums is a lot different honestly.
Imagine the bangers he has tucked away. Such a shame
They had more in common with tool and janes addiction of that LA alt metal scene as opposed to the Nu metal bands.
it's probably better they don't release new music. let's be honest, most aging artists do not write the same as they did in their earlier years. there's just a certain magic that happens within the first decade or so in artist's careers. i like to use billy joel as example, dude is a prolific songwriter. he's got hits upon HITS all throughout the 70s/80s, but when's the last time you've seen him come out with another ''piano man'', or ''only the good die young''. same with elton john. or prob a better example for this genre would be slipknot. you can't tell me any of the stuff they put out over the past 10 years or so stacks up to their first 3 albums, there's just no way.
For me protect the land was on the same level as the 2005 albums, it was great. Genocidal Humanoidz was good too but it would have been way better with Serj's heavy vocals.
Not firing Serj is the biggest mistake the band ever made.
100%
They got a one in a million chance as a band to make it big and succeeded beyond their own hopes or dreams, only to have one guy out of the four who wants out for no reason other than "I don't like doing this anymore :)"
Business at the front, party in the back! Why haven't I seen this till now??
Why is it always expected of people to remaster something or try to fix something that's not broken, why can't we just leave things alone. The moments passed it was good if you love it go back and listen to it enjoy it we don't need to bring back everything from the past, that's how things get ruined.
They've squandered their career, what a shame.
Facts. They were at the height of their popularity, and they blew that lead 😢
They did!!
It’s tragic
Lowlands Festival was peak....think it was 2001
They had a very successful carrer and then it was over. Like carreers tend to do. Theirs was just short, but still legendary. (The shortness makes it even more legendary)
I think it's absurd that people have been hoping for new System of a Down music for so many years. With the somewhat recent couple of releases, I think it is clear that their beautiful bloom as SOAD was over a loooong time ago. Mesmerize/Hypnotize and the touring that followed was the end, and that is ok.
Definitely, I think that if they made one more album yes i could be happy but it could suck because they would most likely be forcing themselves.
The biggest issue for me is that the only reason why new music has been not made is because of Serj. I love the guys and if it was a unanimous decision I would support it. However, this is not true. Serj left and became successful without the rest of them. He left the band hanging when they were on top of the world. Financially, it hurt the rest of the guys and he didn’t have much remorse for them. In my eyes, Serj was very selfish and put himself above the band and the fans. I’m happy they are still playing live but man it would have been nice for them to have put out more albums. Daron has been moderately successful with Scars and Chavo has been putting out music with his band but it’s not the magic that all of them have when they are together with Serj. All of them are crucial elements to SOAD and I’m not sure any of them can be replaceable.
I want new system but it's not going to happen but I do love scars on Broadway and I hope another scars album is coming
If Serj doesn’t sing along with Matt on Game Over, that’s gonna be a huge loss. 😂
You’re getting real close to 1M subs.
Wolfgang van halen ate a million subs
SOAD hasn't made an album since 2005 is simply bc Serj and Daron has just been pointing fingers at each other for 20 years straight, blaming each other for wanting to take over the band.
They were always closer to Mr. Bungle than Korn in the genre of metal
The only chance I got to see system of the down was when they toured their first album with slayer opening for slayer unfortunately here in Utah it rained like a motherfucker, so the whole show was canceled. Never got a chance to see him again.
I’m cool with them never dropping another album now. They’ve never released a bad album, and that’s an almost universally held opinion. If they drop a new album, no matter how amazing it is, nerds on the internet are gonna shit on it. I’m perfectly cool with them just playing the occasional live show instead.
I think they'll still play the odd show here and there but that'll be it. Maybe they'll release singles ? I hope so 🙏
He is right, SOAD is a lot different than bands like Coal Chamber, SlipKnot, and Static-X. A bunch of bands are mislabeled as Nu-Metal probably because of it's massive popularity and because those bands were associated with and toured with Nu-Metal bands.
Daron Should just become the lead singer and tour as SOAD like jerry cantrell did in AIC.
Jerry Cantrell has always sang lead in AIC. AIC has 2 lead singers
@mablesfatalfable6021 lol you're tripping. They both were lead vocalists. Ever heard Heaven Beside You or Dont Follow? That's all Jerry.
Meh, I would prefer them to try another genre, maybe psychedelic bluegrass funk.
Daron was ALWAYS the driving force behind SOAD. Wish we could have had System over the last 20yrs but... hopefully more in the future?! As far as the shows... DO A FULL TOUR or DO NOTHING AT ALL! Only doing "one off" shows just seems like you all are only into it for the INSANE ticket prices now-a-days. Please...Don't be THAT band.
I wouldn't want to write music either if a record company just owned it once I was finished anyway.......Long Live SOAD
Why you upset S.O.A.D is done. Daron stills writes new songs but for his other band third album coming soon. I really happy for Daron and to hear his new material. He still does his thing nothing has changed from System. I am glad he is alive and does what he loves.
I don't want to listen to anything with Broadway in the name
@infinidominion Dude music is the same as System was back in the day the only difference is the Daron singing alone without Serj. I loved his 2008 album and his 2018 album and his two new songs which was realysed in 2024 from 2008 album. It's his music as System was his music to Serj wrote just few songs for System everything else is Daron music even 2020 Project The land and Genocidal Humanoids was written by him for Scars by somehow they agreed to realyse for System for charity purposes. Then I thought System was back for sure, but I was wrong, but it was nice to hear new songs and Daron and Serj voices harmony once again. But we will see what will happen in the future, but as of near future Daron Malakian preparing to release new album for Scars. System has only few stadium shows planned for 2025, but no new music in near future.
@James.Jordan23 Scars is brilliant, better than Mez/Hyp imo. Even the production is better. Ever since 2008 Scars was the natural continuation of SOAD for me.
Also, the more I hear Serj talk about this situation between them, the more it seems like he's just trying to impose himself on the band over Daron's input out of spite.
Interesting thumbnail. Never knew JonTron was in SOAD.
honestly the last two albums were divisive among fans so a new album isn't life or death.
But PLEASE perform somewhere besides LA and NY.
Are you the DragonLord from the States?
I thought the thumbnail was a picture of JonTron
The Human Forklift ☠️
Nice.
Good now we don’t have to anticipate for the 50th time
I could see System writing an album about today’s political situation. If anyone could make bangers out of that, it’s System.
Honestly, if they play enough and magic hits em, they’ll make music. It’s inevitable. If you have talented musicians, which all those guys are, if you have talented musicians come together rehearsing, and practicing they’ll start messing around and start making new stuff.
Scars on Broadway is better I’m sorry thryre Darron’s songs they deserve his voice
The music is no different
What if they just release music and don't worry about playing them live?
Who else thought that was JonTron in the thumbnail 😂😂☠️
System of a Down is one band where I actually hope they don't release any new material. It's been so long since their last album that anything new at this point couldn't possibly be anything other than disappointing. Think Guns 'n Roses' "Chinese Democracy" album.
Because you can’t get along, you rob the fans and yourselves of your music which is your art. Let each guy choose the direction of an album, then the next, and so on and so forth. Let each member have a turn. Such a waste of time
This bums me out. I really wish they could have made it work.
Daron basically described the Spotify dilemma: you might like the songs and bands when you go to 'System of a Down radio', but System is not nu-metal.
To be honest, when I saw there continued and ruthless support for Greta Thunberg, that made my decision to forget about them pretty easy. They sold out for the system. The irony killed me 😂
Serj really is the one holding them back from making new albums. He’s a queen
Read his book. You'll see why he's a "queen" lol
@ will you just summarize. I have absolutely no plan on reading it ever
@@SterlingSimmons22 then don't call serj a queen if you're not interested in why he's being like that. Cheers.
@@sirfrancischl3020 lol that’s how he acts
For real. Dude wants to act pretentious and be artsy-fartsy. His ego couldn't handle Daron wanting to sing more is the truth of the matter. So now he just pretends he's some music and art virtuoso that scores movies lmao, I hate to poke fun but it's ridiculous because he was never like that in the beginning. So fake.
Nu Metal = an era of music, not a genre
I love Daron so much he’s the best
Never thought of them as Nu-metal
I'm not an soad fan but I do feel the front man's pain. I too been suffering from constant back and neck problems. I don't know how he got his but I been in too many fights and including gun battles and been accidentally blown up three times and some pretty nasty and brutal bike wrecks and a few car wrecks. As far as the fighting and explosions I never served but I might as well after all the hell I went through. If I could serve I rather be in the usmc.
Daron says they were a little detached... Yeah, you're Armenian dude😂
Obvs I mean that with the most respect, it's not something they've hidden about themselves and rightly so and it's undeniable their culture made an impact on their song writing.
I think their previous double album was perfect from side to side (ha ha) And I think it's somewhat fitting that if they do decide that's it with new music, the last things they released for in support of Armenia itself.
The fact they still wanna play as SOAD is a blessing and I sincerely hope 2025 isn't the last year we see this band.
