Junior Maile is part Tongan, part Samoan, like myself and most Tongans. We are very mixed with the Samoan people. Junior and I both shared stages during the Olympic Games in Salt Lake City, Utah in 2002. He is legitimately one of the most talented, humble, genuinely good people I have ever had the pleasure to perform with. We had our own individual sets, so I would watch him when my set was done. He is a bright light in the Polynesian musical world, both as a secular artist and as a spiritual leader. Iam's interpretation of this song was very good and his performances throughout American Idol, has made our small nation extremely proud. We, Tongans, are sprinkled throughout communities all over the world and I must confess, many Tongans have the gift of song. I've rarely met a Tongan who could not sing well, and the harmonies at our Church services, and especially funerals are so intricate and layered beautifully, they bring the listener to tears. I guess when God placed us on those tropical islands between Aotearoa and Samoa, he sprinkled a little pixie dust in our vocal abilities. Lol! Junior had a similar experience , his brother passed away and he stopped singing for awhile. Im glad he started singing again, he has such a beautiful voice like Ian. ❤

I totally agree. At the age of 15, no more than 16 how can he touch our hearts so deeply? Iam can achieve this goal with only his magnificent voice and his skilled guitar playing. He is so natural. Junior's version is wonderful, but it was not as natural. For me, there were too many runs. Even though Junior had his guitar, other instruments, and background singers, I preferred Ian's rendition. His voice is so soothing.
He is having a come back concert here in Hawaii @ Turtle Bay Resort on July 1st. He will be singing side by side with the original singer of "Don't let go" Sprawnbreeze. I'm excited to go ❤

And the more we thirst for the real Iam the more amazing, beautiful, and talented he is. Yes we know now what Rodney seen in Iam and why he pushed him to his last days. He saw what were just getting glimpses of. I think that both singer were great in their own right, I just happen to like Iam’s approach and music, and voice better. And he’s such a baby!!I can’t imagine what I did before Iam first audition because I wake up listening and watching him and the same at night. My dad was pure Samoan from American Samoan and struggled with English, but when you jumped in his truck, all you heard was country and he sang it as if he was born in the most rural areas of Texas or Kentucky. I hear the similarities with Hawaiian/Samoan/Tongan reggae, and I hear country. Maoli is a great example of this. Iam, you are in your own lane. I wanted you to sing with Josh Tatofi, but you two have distinct differences. I thank God for both of you.

"Maile" is like saying Mile but instead of saying Mile you saying Maile (ee_ another example is "Life" sound it like "laife". In Tongan you pronounce the word just like it spells out "Maile" sounds it like "My"-lee. I hope it makes sense here for you.

My dad was pure Samoan from American Samoan and struggled with English, but when you jumped in his truck, all you heard was country and he sang it as if he was born in the most rural areas of Texas or Kentucky. I hear the similarities with Hawaiian/Samoan/Tongan reggae, and I hear country. Maoli is a great example of this. Iam, you are in your own lane. I wanted you to sing with Josh Tatofi, but you two have distinct differences. I thank God for both of you.

Good question. I agree with you that he doesn't need it. At certain points it is too much. But if I'm being honest, when it's not too much, I do kind of like it. "Maile" is like saying Mile but instead of saying Mile you saying Maile (ee_ another example is "Life" sound it like "laife". In Tongan you pronounce the word just like it spells out "Maile" sounds it like "My"-lee. I hope it makes sense here for you.
