- I've loved this song my entire life. It takes some courage to put your own version out, and Tongi absolutely delivers. If you love thoughtful, poignant, intense performances, then you'll love this. I also look into some of the history and techniques of Hawaiian music. Hope you enjoy.

Iam is one of the few vocalists I’ve seen who can take a song and make you feel what he’s feeling instead of just singing to you. That he does it without having to resort to fancy vocal tricks or runs is a testament to his storytelling ability.
well said
He’s been singing for so long. Very diverse in his song selections too. You need to watch the whole season he just stuns everyone. We all fell in love with Iam, but the judges did before us.
What I couldn’t help notice was that the other contestants loved him. One of them said “we all knew he was going to win.” They weren’t upset about it--I think they must have noticed way before the finale and they still treated him like they loved him as much as everyone else did.
Iam is very gifted. And makes every song his own. He just sings… I don’t think he knows all the “techniques” he uses. He just sings as he and his dad did.He just sings…. And it all comes natural. If you told Iam all this he would probably say, “huh?” LOL. Thanks for your reaction. PS. He doesn’t always sing falsetto.
This young man kept most of us crying every time he sang. I love the song The Winner takes it all! Absolutely the BEST since the original group ABBA sang it!
I'm just a older man past his sixties that's listened to a lot of different music genres over the years, I heard this kid sing during the auditions, It's like his voice just drew me to watch him sing every Sunday. And it's not because of his story. Alot of people including me have lost a loved one. His voice is what drew me to watch him sing.. Looking forward to see what type of music he does after American Idol..
Same. I have not watched idol in ten years. I had it on for back ground noise…. His audition immediately grabbed my attention, he was the only reason why I watched this year, and I was one thousand percent sure he was going to make it all the way. I can watch all of his videos over and over and still get goosebumps.
Agree 💯💯💯❤️❤️ I love love love his new single! I listen to his music and will be paying to go see him! He’s authentic and he loves music. Everything he touches turns to gold! Have never loved a singer more than Iam❤ He’s so laid back and humble!! I don’t hear him sing, I FEEL IT!! That is the reason he went on to win! People all over the world are drawn to him because he’s all heart and that’s what music is all about! But make no mistakes, he’s a beautiful singer!! There are t enough words to express all the good things I could say about him! This kid has the divine favor of God shining through him👍❤️🥰💯🙏🤙🤙🤙 He’s the definition of Aloha

Iam is incredible and I appreciate all of the details you provide to further understand his style!
Just love your reactions! Very informative as well! Please do more Iam. He’s really something special. LOVE his style of singing, tone of his voice, emotion and guitar playing!
IAM IS A STORY TELLER.
Iam is special. You can identify all the things that make him different and special. What I have trouble describing is WHY all these things makes him so special. I can't get enough of him. I'm an Elvis fan, and I have to stop myself from saying, "Elvis...WHO...?" Not really, but he IS that good and that special?
Please watch all of his performances and post your reactions.
Il est incroyable, il m'a impressionner tout le temps et à chaque performance dans américain idole 2023 et contente qu il est gagné ❤❤.

Iam (pronounced ee am), full first name is William. He was raised in Hawaii and there the heart beats the rhythm of the mele (song).
It is to tell the story in the only way he knows. His voice will call you to listen to the story with your heart! 🌸V
I wish I was in that performance live 😊

Beautiful IAM Tongi Love it ❤❤
Been a fan from the start. This kid is so dang talented. Just lulls me. He plays multiple instruments and can sing many genres. Still my idol. Only Idol.
Iam is a Hawaii born mainly Tongan Samoan Irish guy. Tongan male singing is something else. Hope you can hear some male Tongan choirs. I known nothing about music, I just like to sing and listen to songs and music and Tongan music is great.
One thing that is not discussed is that IAM and his family are also deeply religious. They see things differently than many people do ... in a humble, unentitled, and appreciative way.
That plus
(1) their culture,
(2) being authentically humble,
(3) MISSING the huge time investment by and bonding with his Dad,
(4) the gargantuan HOLE left by his Dad's passing
(5) genuine close family ties and
(6) IAM's raw and growing talent ....
....makes him who he UNPRETENTIOUSLY is.
We can all learn from him.
I worry about his weight.
Great reaction please check out All William Tongi as IAM Tongi 13 to 15 Performances they're all great and outstanding Performances thank you.
Portuguese Immigrants Brought The Spanish Guitar To Hawaii From Madeira Portugal In The 1800 s ! The Hawaiians Didn’t Like The Sound of The Guitar So They Slacked The Keys ! And The Portuguese Brought The Ukulele To Hawaii It Is Not Indigenous To Hawaii ! Thanks For Your Awesome Video !
Thanks same in Tonga Latin prayer 🙏

I had a old friend we called her Tiny she was beautifu, i played netball with her ,yes she still played sports, she was bigger than Iam, and she could sing too, she was like a bird, everyone loved listening to her sing, but when she lost heaps of weight her voice changed, I hope that wont happen to Iam if he does...❤
WOW ❤
Do you know what the original reason for this song how it came about
Leo kiʻekiʻe (lay-oh key-ay key-ay)
Iam is pronounced the same as "Ian" but with an "mmm" instead of "n"
A few comments: In slack key, a lot of the tunings require tightening some strings. It's not always loosening. They just call it slack key. Also, the real essence of slack-key is not really the tuning, it's that the tunings enable a single guitarist to sound like two or three. There will be a gently rocking bass, a mellifluous melodic line and a harmonic support that can be either simple or complex, and, thanks to the tuning, it's relatively easy to play. The various tunings gives the songs different timbres depending on which one you use, with of course open strings giving that deep, full sound vs. the stopped strings being brighter. I sometimes joke that there are only about 10 Hawaiian songs, it's just that the musicians use a bunch of different tunings and arrangements to make it seem like there are hundreds more.
The rest of the description you provide here about Hawaiian music is pretty accurate, except that it's missing one key term: "nahe nahe" (NA hey NA hey). It translates roughly as "sweet and smooth." I've heard musicians here say that in musical terminology, it might best be translated as "legato." Of course a good classical musician will tell you that there are different kinds of legato, which is also the case with nahe nahe. Musicians MUST have this quality in mind if they're going to play Hawaiian music.
Iam's style is quite common here in Hawaii. He just does it extremely well, and his voice and range are uniquely suited for it. He has a rasp that really isn't "raspy," more like fine-grit sandpaper, and a resonance that carries even when he's singing softly. He's easy on the ears top to bottom -- no stress, which is what made his AI audition so amazing. All the stress in his person, none in that voice, until the very end. He also uses a bit of vibrato which, while not unheard of here, is a bit atypical, as I think it is in pop and folk music in general. It's especially effective (and "affective") on longer notes where he trails off a bit, creating that extra ringing in your ear.
I really can't think of a style of music that is more evocative of a particular place than Hawaiian music, on slack key and/or ukulele, with maybe a bass and steel guitar too, and a great singer like Iam. To hear this music on the beach, under the stars, with a gentle tradewind rustling the palm trees, that's about as close to heaven as you can get.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
His Capo is closer to the body. 🤷🏼♀️
It’s Iam pronounce the Kline a long E
It’s not Lam! It’s Iam ( ee-hum).
The name is Pronounced Ian with an “m” not “I am”

Great reaction to a wonderful performer. Have you heard of Alip Ba Ta? - ua-cam.com/video/Gd2-AZKuChg/v-deo.html He's a finger-style acoustic guitar savant. I really think you'd enjoy him
Okay, I just clicked on the link and I don't even know how to properly express what in the world I just saw.....WOW 😊
Please, please pronounce his name correctly. That's just the respectful thing to do.
