That has to be in my top 5 favorite katanas I've seen on here. Awesome job! I dig the hell out of it, it has a look of it shouldn't belong but looks like it should at the same time. It's just badass!
Its shaped like a katana .... but a true katana lies in the steel and its forging process. Its the continuous folding of the steel and hammering it. Fold again and repeat. It's how the steel becomes both strong, elastic inside and hard to break ... then the slurry and quenching to harden the edges and maintain its sharpness. Its also why it's so expensive to buy a real katana. Of course, all of the swords made today are purely ceremonial or decorative.
I see so many katana/tanto builds with a single, curved bevel on the tip. The tip should have a second, faceted bevel with a defined line (yokote) where the blade and tip bevel meet.
It looks amazing, and is an excellent execution of the concept. That doesn't mean that sticking gears and gauges onto an object with no moving parts doesn't still make me weirdly angry, though.
I bet you a old katana any katana would break that sword not really truly a. Katana just looks like one but just for looks to be hang up look up how a real authentic katana is made in feudal Japan era and present day they make it and show how they made it in the feudal Japan era n still makes it the same way till this day his swords are ones of the most sought out throughout the world for real collectors or who ever has the expensive ass amount of money it cost if u got it like that
Awesome! I think the *only* way to improve on it would be using Damascus. An eye catching extreme random weird looking pattern could really play into the overall style and fit the theme of the build perfectly. Like someone had to go out and scavenge a bunch of different metal together to make one sword. 👍👌✌
Honestly I'm trying this as well but given I don't have a forge it's just a nightmare. I've only managed to make the tsuba and I have the pommel on the handle. No blade no wrap no decoration. It's quite sad.

He has definitely improved since that ill-fated rapier. It still toughens at too high a temperature, but since he temper the blade later is not such a problem.
