    Good video on a great product.
    I have had mine for around 4 years, it's the same model as yours.
    I have used it in every season, in a bunch of configurations, I have nothing but good things to say about it.

    First off let me say that I love the camera quality and clear audio that you have. I have the 10x12 tarp and absolutely love it. I use a homemade canvas drop cloth to sleep on that matches this in color and blends well in the woods. Bushcraftusa offers a seam sealer product that can be purchased for around $5 that will seal the ridge line 100%. I sealed my ridge line on both sides and it has not cracked or failed me yet. I was on the fence about whether to buy this or a DD tarp for a long time. The fact that it is made by bushcrafters for bushcrafters here in the usa is what sold me on it. The 10x12 is great for bringing a friend, child,or newbie along for a single outing and letting them take cover under it. The weight is worth the comfort of knowing that no matter what the weather does I'm going to be dry. Insofar as the bug net I use a rectangular one ($9 locally) and suspend it separately via 550 cord with spreader sticks to completely cover me so that I can sit under the lean to and work or sleep.

    The 8x10 or 10x10 (had it so llong I forgot the size) tarp as my primary tarp for the past 6+yrs. No complaints yet. These days it serves as my kitchen shelter, as I' in black bear coutry, and I prefer a tent w/ bug screens, as of late, the Kelty Grand Mesa 2.

    My wife, best friend, and myself all use the 10x12 (892g/31.46oz/1.96lbs) version of this tarp We have used it in all kinds of weather and none of our tarps have ever given us the first problem in the three years that we have owned them. I seam sealed all three tarps with the seam sealer that BCUSA sells on their site with a triple top and bottom coatings when I got them. The easiest way is to stretch a line horizontally, lay the tarp on the ridgeline, and use prusik loops at the ends to make it slightly tight. Apply the seam sealer in light coatings for best results ensuring that the thread holes are filled. Stretching the tarp slightly will exposed those holes as if it were in use. Keep a rag handy in case of runs. They are not the lightest but the are nearly bombproof. Lastly, the 10x12 allows for two hammocks under it if you hang in a V shape with the tarp pitched in a wide "A" frame style position.

    The oversized stuff sack is a nice touch, it can be quite hard getting kit back into the original bag it came in sometimes, so a little extra space is very handy, it can be hard getting precise folds when there's wind etc.

    My go to for years for tarp line was 1/8 inch braided nylon. It’s a do all cord. It’s cheap, it’s lightweight, and it’s very strong.

    I went with a free Soldier 10 x 10 which came out to exactly 10 by 11 and it's well-built and I recently picked up a kalinko 10 x 10 tarp and coffee flavor what color and the free Soldier is offered in coffee but it was more expensive so I got the 10x10 which I use for a year very good tarp and reseal it

  • @meawoodsman8321
    @meawoodsman8321 9 років тому

    Luke, if you put some pieces shock cord on your tie-out's it will keep the tarp taught after it stretches. Helps keep it tight in the wind as well.

  • @chrisnimon1777
    @chrisnimon1777 9 років тому

    I've had the 10x12 for a few years now. I never sealed it and I have never had a leak. I normally use it in an A-frame configuration, sometimes with the ridge line over and some times under. I have seen only 1 tie out issue and it didn't tear out, the fabric actually ripped near it. I use a bungee cord mod that alleviates any stretching and keeps it taught. Like the reviewer said It's a little heavier/bulkier than silnylon but you pay a LOT less for it. Hard to find a better tarp for the price.

    You can hang things on any tarp if you are using a ridgeline. String your ridgeline through all the loops on he "top" side then when you set it up turn it "upside down" and then your ridgeline is under the tarp. Hang away.

    Luke, would love to see how you do your seam sealing. Quick question: do ya know how this tarp would perform in severe cold? I live in upstate New York and do a lot o 'extreme' camping in the winter. We frequently get temps in the -30*/-40* range for a week at a time, and the tarps I use now (simple heavy duty blue tarps) tend to crack in those extremes usually at the tie-out points, especially when there is added weight from snow and ice. I tried canvas but the weight sux. How do ya think this one would fare? - Vin 'The Hatchetman' D.

    I have the Texas Bushcraft tarp in the UK. I wouldn't say £89 is cheap. That's $116. Mine has monumentally huge loops which can't hold any type of peg. Yours look far smaller than mine. I've tried paracord, the knots of which undid, the bungee type option which made the tarp unstable, and clips which did not hold the tarp and just came off. Strong winds and continual rain. Anyone with any ideas on how to use loops which are about 10 inches long, please let me know. I have run out of ideas. If Texas Bushcraft could see their way to making far smaller loops, that would be great.
