Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Happened upon your video as my 2005 SR5 (blue) has been clunking for about 6 months. I have replaced the control arms, suspension, ball joints and tie rods at a repair shop in attempts to fix this noise. To no avail and they wanted to replace the rack and pinion next. Already spending too much, I find this diamond of a video at 11 pm before bed. I rush out to the garage and I find 3 missing bolts and one loose and about to fall out. My man! You rock. I can’t wait to get this fixed. My wife told me to get rid of my Sequoia bc it is “old” and making noise, but it runs great and I knew there was a solution. Thanks.

Dude, you have saved my life thank you thank you THANK YOU!! I’ve been trying to fix this sound for over a year and you have saved me hundreds of dollars from having to go to a mechanic to fix this problem. I looked under my car and it was just four bolts and they were loose. I tightened them up good as new!! The sound is completely gone. God bless you!!

I have been looking for the source of this noise for 10 years. I replaced the whole front end with new parts because it sounded like it was coming from either upper control arms or lower control arms. Today, I put a search and find this video. Went to my truck, got under it, and the four bolts are missing. Wow. Thank you so much.

I want to thank you as well for this video. I saw it last night around 11 pm. My curiosity was driving me crazy. it couldn't be this easy, could it? In the past 2 weeks I changed the front shock/struts, and the sway bar links myself. Still clunking. I got up out of bed, proceeded to grab a few sockets, a flashlight, and head out to the carport. Climbed under my '05 Sequoia and low and behold! All 4 original bolts, still there, but loose! Each one required at least 1 full turn, some 2. I then of course had to test drive it. Clunking noise GONE!! Couldn't friggin believe it! I was at the point of throwing parts at it, that this might get expensive. I'm able to do some thing's myself, but I was envisioning having to take it somewhere to get to the bottom of this noise. Thank you again for this!!

Just tightened mine ...Much Thanks. They were loose. I may just replace the mount.
3 racks...2 were failures, I bought a Toyota rebuilt rack $730 ( only one around the Western and Central US.), The mechaniks said the Toyota rack was crap, I told them I bought this Toyota rack to solve this problem and they insisted on using their rack guy again, I told them, well his dint last not even 500 miles and the bushings were all jacked up. Found out the Power steering pump was bad from all the crud going through it. The Toy. rack was fine.
Another guy wanted $3800 to replace the entire suspension and still wouldn't of tighten those trans bolts.
Found the Sway bar bushings need to go as well.....Moog parts -$20
Good thing God taught me alot of serious patience. Had my Ex been around, I'd go send her over ( in hottie shorts ) to the shop and give them guys a earful and shame the hell out of them !!

Thank you! I've been tracking down this clunking issue for several years, until saw this radio. I immediately check my 2007 sequoia and surely there're four empty holes there, no bolt at all. Ordered bolts from dealer and put them in yesterday. I guess this might also be the reason for the occasional small transmission oil leak in that area... oil leaks from the seal because of the movement.
Another thought, is it possible to add four nuts to make the bolts more secure?

Wonder if this could possibly be the reason for the clunking noise on my 2011 tundra? So far I've checked leaf springs uper/lower control arms, ball joints, etc. However, the sound does appear that's coming from somewhere in between the tranny and drive shaft connection. Will be checking the transmission mount bolts next weekend and hopefully that's the issue. Btw good job finding out that tsb.

I'm unsure, but my gut says that the center differential and trans mount would probably be designed different (better) on the 4WD models and have a few more bolts. This is just my guess though.

    How’s the clunk now?

*completly gone* - previously it would ‘clunk’ as the suspension would unbind when you let off the brakes, it doesn’t do that any longer. ALSO, when the rear end would go over a dip in the road at slow speeds it would ‘clunk’ then too. Since I replaced the bolts and lock-tighted them in, it’s been like a new truck. Keep in mind, “smirestone” diagnosed it as a steering rack and then when @jordanhorne7700 - I had them replace that, they said it was a lower control arm. (which I replaced) None of these things were it. It was these four stinkin’ bolts that had come out.

Thanks for getting back to me. I ordered the bolts after watching your video and realizing all 4 of mine were missing. I’ve taken my sequoia to several repair shops and trusted mechanics….no one could find the source…. That is until your video. Thanks again!

@@jordanhorne7700 - you bet man! I had the same experience as you. I went to several different repair shops, dug through a LOT of online forums too. Please let me know how it goes after you get 'em in.

This resolved the clunking noise on my 2005 Toyota Tundra. The noise occurred after coming to a stop and then when I accelerated it would clunk. When I checked the transmission/drive shaft mount, 3 out of 4 bolts were missing and the forth bolt was only finger tight. I replaced the missing bolts and tightened the loose bolt . Problem solved... thanks!

Mine has 4 missing bolts. Will go pick them up tomorrow. Tsb looks to only cover 60,000 miles and under. Thanks for the post.
