Actually, "asking for the check" is supposed to be 「埋單」 ("bury the bill"), a Cantonese expression that was mistakenly imported into Mandarin as 「買單」 because the Cantonese pronunciation of 「埋」 ("to bury") is identical to the Mandarin pronunciation of 「買」 "to buy". Wikipedia has an explanation of this; look up 「埋單」.

买单 and 结帐 are quite same , it's not necessary to use 请结帐。

二(Er) is used to number things or people, it is like Number Two as in 二号门 Gate Number Two；两（Liang）is used in counting things or people, e.g. 两个人 two people, 两座山 two mountains. So if you are saying Moutain Number Two, it is 二号山，but if you are saying two mountains, it is 两个山.

ji ding is diced chicken, ji rou is chicken meat. The dish gong bao ji ding normally is referred to as ji ding not ji rou

when you put 部分 in front of nouns, it means "partial " or "a part of". "Can I have another part of Mapo Doufu?"

When do you use "zai nali" verses "zai nar"?
From what i've learnt. 儿 "er" on the end of words, for example 在哪儿 "zai nar), is the Beijing dialect, so its only used in Mainland China around Beijing, they don't use "zai nar" in Taiwan. Also, "zai nar" is primarily used for spoken Chinese, when they are writing Chinese, they will use 在哪里 "zai nali".
Well, actually, they are synonymous. :D
zai nar is actually the beijing way of saying it. they have different accents when speaking. ln beijing many words end in r. like diar instead of dian

@@will_wolf_1 You have excellent command of the language. People all over China these days use Er in their speech, but Er is still more common in northern dialects, and it originated from Beijing dialect.
Even a Taiwanese might need more conversations in such situation. I'd say 來一份小盤的麻婆豆腐...量不要這麼多...or other words until the waiter gets it. And did you get what you wanted?

xD this is the vantagens of being Portuguese ,there are a lot of Japanese words that are similar and tea in Portuguese it's "chá" the same as in chinese xP no need to decorate that..

What if you are vegan and want to make sure the food is not cooked in animal oil or have any other animal products? I taught English in China once and ordered only vegetables, but learned the hard way that my food was cooked in animal oil, lol. Not a fun experience.

I think she has some kind of speech impediment. Some people who speak English have a problem with saying S. The placement of the tongue is not correct so they develop what is called a "lisp". I don't know what hers is....but her mandarin is good, haha.
I have a speech impediment, although with "r" not really "s". And I'm a native speaker who grew up with English. I hate it when people give other people shit for speech impediments, since they are near impossible to get rid of. I went to speech classes for 2 years as a kid, and while they helped, they didn't erase the problem. And there is nothing more discouraging than when people are rude about your speech impediment when you are speaking a foreign language that you have learned. Because as you pointed out, the problem is with the impediment (something practically non-fixable), not with the individual's ability to speak the language.
You are correct. Have you tried any tongue twisters? I am sure that you might be able to find one to help with R. I have noticed that there are lots of haters on these sites. That's all they do, they just hate on people so I was trying to educate some of them. Good luck to you :)

Don't be rude, its a speech impediment. It's likely non-fixable, especially at this point now that she is an adult. Being rude about it is comparable to being rude about a physical disability. Imagine having a limp because of an injury or some other extraneous reason that couldn't be helped, and somebody telling you "You walk so weird!!!". Or at least that's how I feel when people point out my difficulty with pronouncing "r" in words.
