Great round! Still trying to break 100 but getting closer every time I play. Last round was a 102! As a new golfer the way you play is really impressive and realistic. Appreciate the videos!!
Something playing the same course daily for years taught me that the best strategy for defeating the evil intentions of the designer to mess with the mind and ego is to identify all the flat lies in the fairways and the straightest, longest hazard free line to the day’s pin placement for the approach shot. The root of the psychological problem is golf is the handicap system which was created as a way to encourage less skilled golfers at country clubs to pay to enter competitions. The need to keep stroke score for all rounds is an ego crushing experience for golfers of all levels because one errant shot can cascade into round destroying score on one hole. A much more liberating way to approach the game, especially for beginners, is to instead think of the game as one of match play with the course designer, like Chess a metaphor for warfare with 18 separate battles to be fought and one where “par” is simply a draw with the designer, birdie or better is needed to win the hole and anything over par on the hole, whether one stroke or a dozen, is a defeat. Scoring and measuring personal progress is simply a matter of counting the par or better holes. When I adopted that strategy for practice rounds I found myself thinking and playing more strategically. On several of the par four holes on my course keeping Driver in the bag using more club off a level lie resulted in far more pars and birdies than I had been getting and my first Eagles when the ball found the hole with a lucky bounce and roll, the luck of which was helped by landing my tee shot so the approach shot was the straightest and longest path on the green from front edge to pin for that day’s pin placement. On the first hole instead of Driver then Lob wedge out of a bad lie in the rough the Drive would roll into due to the slope of the fairway resulting in a short-sided approach shot with wedge I would hit a 5 iron draw to a flat lie in the fairway on the left side which gave me an easy 7 iron approach into the long dimension of the green and the ball winding up on the green far more often.
Hey mate great video. Noticed you carry a 5 wood and a 3 hybrid, wondering if these aren’t too similar and where would you use them? I’m looking at same setup just mindful about the overlap. Cheers
Came across your channel and love it and also subscribed….curious how long does it take for a round for you after setting up the camera before each shot and picking it up after each shot and then doing the same over and over for a round?
Hey Chris! There's a *lot* of downtime during a round so the ~3-4 seconds it takes to place a tripod behind me doesn't slow down my round at all. So if there's nobody in front of me, I can play/film in a foursome in 3-3.5 hours. 99% of my rounds are 4hrs+ owing to waiting on groups (the universal golf experience, it seems).
Is that a new flat stick? Either way, love your videos - you’re helping me to learn to love golf again. When I got to single digits I started taking it too seriously and getting mad and it made me play worse. Got to be a goldfish
Hi Adam. I've been watching your channel for a while and I love how you explain your shot process before each shot. Your distances are pretty similar to mine so your videos are very helpful. If I can make one suggestion for the benefit of your viewers it would be to use a ball other than the Srixon Divide. It's pretty difficult to see on a lot of shots on the video. However, if you're more comfortable using this ball and it suits your game better, then stick with it. Great content. Can't wait to get back to Vancouver in the near future!

Hello from Melbourne Australia. Long time subscriber, first time messanger! Is that a new putter I spy in this video? How do you like the Divide ball? Ive been playing it the past 6 months and really like it. Ive played the Z Star Tour for years and enjoy the 2 coloured ball. Really enjoy your videos, Ive become a lot more patient and consistent following your strategies and thoughts.
Hey Andrew! Jealous of the golf I see you guys get to play in Australia! I 'm waiting for an adapter to arrive so that I can use Arccos with my putter - I've been using my dad's in the interim. Good eye! I'm only a few rounds into using the divide ball but I quite like it. Feels very soft off the face (almost rubber-like with my driver, though, which is weird to adjust to). I really like seeing how it reacts on chips/putts. I seem to focus more on making good contact with my chips as a result. Plus I just think the blue/yellow looks cool, lol.
@@NotAScratchGolfer i live in the middle of Melbourne sand belt. Courses like Royal Melbourne, Kingston Heath, Metropolitan, Commonwealth, Yarra Yarra, Woodlands, Keysborough, Peninsula are all less than 20 min away! I can feel an Aussie series in your future!
Hey Adam, awesome channel mate. Quick one, why do you use those balls but don't line up your putts? Obviously your putting is great so just wondering your thoughts on it.
Thanks Jordan! The odd time I've tried to use an alignment aid (or this ball, for example), I find that I'm not able to set the line in such a way that it agrees with my eye when I'm in my setup.
I wish I could blame my extra weight on COVID-19. Mines more like, SWEET TEA 16-22. 😒 Interesting to hear how you like self contained holes. I know some people hate that design and want the holes to be really connected. I think they both have value. Though self contained holes tend to penalize you more for errant tee balls.
Haha cheers Jason. I think both have their place. An open links layout is really cool. But when it comes to parkland golf, I really enjoy being isolated on each hole.
Great video! I'm new to the channel but this is the exact kind of golf (I internally refer to it as boring golf, no offense intended) I've been experimenting with lately. I generally shoot just over or under 90, trying to get to consistently in the low 80s. Really great to see a full round laid out like this, so thanks. I gotta ask though, what's KP?
@@rusworks Cool. Yeah the phone app is definitely less user friendly. The desktop app used to be a bit slow for me to use. Got a much more powerful computer recently which helped a ton.
I also play with the divide ball (red/yellow). Wondering how you like it? Do you find the blue/yellow hard to retrieve and do you get enough short game spin?
first thing is first -- you sir! never seem to be in trouble, i mean do you ever hit doubles or triples? that helps a lot. really as long as you can hit a 40 yard stretch of fairway on the drive and 25 yard stretch for the approach. as long as your shortgame/scramble is half decent and the greens you are on aren't impossible you are shooting 9 and under. That's half bogeys and half pars not to mention birdies. I think single digits is easier than people think if they make it easy, but the numbers say it is in fact rare. All the mysteries of golf are solved guys here and now.
Amen. I think a lot of people could shave a ton of strokes without making a single change to their swing. My driver tends to be pretty reliable (not long, but straight) and as a result my blowup holes tend to happen if I blade a chip or lose a ball in a hazard greenside...
Hey Adam, what shaft are you using in your PXG driver. It looks like you are playing a Gen 4 Pxg. Also, for your swing speed, are you using stiff or regular? thanks. I love your vids. Played Frasierview as a kid, love the course.
@@onetime421 So oddly enough, the reason I like them is because I love watching how they react around the greens. But I think a lot of people would find them to be dealbreakers around the greens if they're used to aligning the ball a certain way. They can also throw some people off between the tee and the green because of the "direction" the ball appears to be pointing while sitting on the turf. Definitely a personal thing.
Hey Adam, I’ll be in Vancouver soon, any recommendations on where to play? I’d love to play Capilano or Shaugnessy but don’t know any members. Best public option?
Hey Hayden. There's a ton of great public golf in/around Vancouver. To name a few: Morgan Creek, Fraserview, Kings Links, Northview, Northlands. I'm a member at Shaughnessy and if we overlap we can go out there together. If you can find a member at Cap, I'd suggest playing there. It's probably the best setting for golf I've experienced outside of Pebble Beach.
They're cool! I can see how they'd be very divisive (no pun intended). But I like watching them react around the greens - it makes me focus harder on putting good strokes on the ball with putter and picking them cleanly with my wedges. They feel very different off the face...almost like a rubber ball. Again, divisive. But I like 'em!
Nice video. I'm kind of like you. I'm not all that athletic but decent hand eye coordination. Unlike you, I decided a while ago to go the route of improving my swing first and trying to improve my scores later. Need less to say, I don't score very well despite making nice improvements with my swing.
I'm gonna steal your red light/green light drive stat instead of using fairways. The rough at the courses I play isn't super prohibitive and my striking is better out of it than fairway. Totally different game than yours - I play to a 14 by way of big distance, weak control, and 40 putts per round - so I have a lot I can learn from you 🤘 Also helps that your videos are really calming to watch and your attitude is 25/10.
I use Shot Tracer Pro for Mac OS. I mount my phone on a small portable tripod. I forge the model name but it was basically just off the rack at a camera shop.
@@tylercollins6654 Yeah! Very soft off the face on chips and putts. Feel a bit weird off the face with driver though. And personally I'm a big fan of the "divide' two-tone thing. I know it can be divisive, though.
I might not be the best guy to ask, but my take is that it feels very, very, very soft off the face with chips/putts. But it also feels downright bizarre off the face with driver - almost like you're hitting a rubber ball.
I tried using the divide ball to align putts but couldn't set the ball such that it looked right to my eye once I stood over the putt. I like observing the spin on the divide ball on pitches though + seeing how it reacts around the greens. Subconsciously, I think it causes me to focus more on putting good strokes on putts and making better contact with my wedges. The ball is also very soft off the face, which I like.
Someone complaining about gimme putts? I hope they know it's actually legal for Match play (not for stroke) and it's defined as "any putt 2 feet or less from the hole". Don't worry about them, those are the people that are probably missing them anyway
haha cheers. I just remember one of my first videos getting blasted with "dUdE yOu PiCk Up eVeRyThInG iNsIdE 4 fEeT yOuRe AcKsHuLlY sHoOtInG 90!" and ever since then I've thought, "it's probably good practice to make these anyway." But yeah, I should end this already. Sometimes it's embarrassing going out of my way to tap in 8 inch putts.
Is it me or are the greens you play in slow? I know that you’re a great putter, but it seems from the videos that the greens are easy. Not trying to jab at you, love the videos, however when you play on tropical greens I think your handicap might be a bit higher than 10
They were reasonably slow at Fraserview, yeah. And I'm not sure. Maybe this is my ego talking, but I feel like I'd actually putt quite a bit better if I were playing the same course over and over. For the last year, I've almost never played a course more than a handful of times - new courses + new greens every day ain't easy.
@@NotAScratchGolfer Since not going to hit the green anyways I just thought a hybrid might be easier through the rough. Smaller foot print to get through the grass. v/r
Good eye! So my normal putter has a weight in the grip and won't accommodate the Arccos sensor. I ordered an adapter from Arccos and until it arrives I'm gaming my dad's putter.

Hey Adam….Victoria BC guy here, although my wife and I do live in Scottsdale Arizona now. I first saw you with the baus Matt, I enjoy your videos! If you’re ever down here let me know, love to play a round with you ⛳️

That driver sounds phenomenal
Love this. “Match play versus the course” is a great idea.
This is amazing. Love it.
Great video. I love the comment about all the viewers putting everything out. … do ad I say, not as I do!
Loll
Just goes to show you don't need a pro swing to score well. No skulls major chunks and good putting
How are you liking those multi-color balls? Do you ever talk about why you use them?
Is that a new flat stick? Either way, love your videos - you’re helping me to learn to love golf again. When I got to single digits I started taking it too seriously and getting mad and it made me play worse. Got to be a goldfish
Thanks, Erek! Yeah, I'm waiting on an adapter to arrive so that I can use my putter with Arccos. In the interim I've been using my old man's.
Can't wait to get back to Vancouver in the near future!
shot a 36 today. was 2 under through 8 and doubled the last hole. Definitely need to take your advice and not think about the score so much
Easier said than done. I remember being 3/4 under through 9 and finishing +2/+3 .. sucks
What is the golf course you are playing, would be nice if you mentioned a little about them and where they are at the start of your videos, awesome work keep it up
Thanks, Kris. It's so tough saying everything I want to in a video while keeping the runtime short. Just ran out of time in this one. Appreciate the feedback - this course is worth shouting out. It's Fraserview Golf Course - a muni in Vancouver, Canada. Great course on a sprawling 300 acre property with some great walking trails throughout, to boot!
@@NotAScratchGolfer awesome man thabk you. I appreciate not dragging videos on like some other channels too. I'm a pretty new golfer and been playing on the pitch and putt in kensington and the 12 hole at westwood plateu on coquitlam. Do you recommend any other courses around that ability. Appreciate the first reply and best of look for the channel in the futre, seems to be growing nicely
@@krismarsden1308 No prob Kris. I've actually never played the 12 hole @ Westwood Plateau (only the 18-hole course). What's it like? I'm a big fan of our local pitch and putt courses - Central Park, Queen E Park, Stanley Park, Ambleside.
When it comes to slightly longer courses (exec and such like), I highly recommend Gleneagles in West Van. Beautiful place.
@@NotAScratchGolfer it's actually pretty good, 8 par 3's and 4 par 4's I think it is, beautiful scenery once you hit the top of the hill and quite well maintained too.
I actually played the central park for the first time yesterday didn't play too great shot 71.
I'm definitely gonna try out some other pitch and putts around and also some more execs before moving on to the big boy courses
I like these videos, specially with shot tracer. Do you use a GoPro camera to record your games and then process later? Or a phone app? Thanks!
That ball is very trippy to watch on video.
In person, too
Hello from Melbourne Australia.
'm waiting for an adapter to arrive so that I can use Arccos with my putter - I've been using my dad's in the interim.
@@NotAScratchGolfer super interesting, Im the complete opposite haha. Love the channel, give me a shout when you come to Australia 👍
Smart golf, love it.
Closest to the pin
Do you like using that multicolor ball? I have a few but haven’t tried them
love the videos! Just curious what do you use to track your ball flight?
Thanks Rusty. I use Shot Tracer Pro for Mac oS.
@@NotAScratchGolfer Nice I thought this was only a phone app which was not really good... giving it a try.
@@rusworks Cool. Yeah the phone app is definitely less user friendly. The desktop app used to be a bit slow for me to use. Got a much more powerful computer recently which helped a ton.
@@NotAScratchGolfer how much does the software cost you?
@@805mctrailrider8 I think it's $89/yr
I also play with the divide ball (red/yellow). Wondering how you like it? Do you find the blue/yellow hard to retrieve and do you get enough short game spin?
Your swing looks like my buddies golf swing. He usually beats me.
first thing is first -- you sir! never seem to be in trouble, i mean do you ever hit doubles or triples? that helps a lot. really as long as you can hit a 40 yard stretch of fairway on the drive and 25 yard stretch for the approach. as long as your shortgame/scramble is half decent and the greens you are on aren't impossible you are shooting 9 and under.
A couple of months ago I bought a dozen blue-yellow srixon divide but the colors make my brain go psyco. Cannot get used to it
The color of that ball is so trippy.

@@yungpierre6627 Yes
@@NotAScratchGolfer Do you like them for putting? Seems weird to get used to, or maybe its just the way the camera picks it up haha
How do judge green speed generally? I see your putting and you seem to be very on top of the speed
I don't do anything in particular, aside form rolling some putts on the practice green pre-round.
@@NotAScratchGolfer Adam, that would be awesome to play Shaugnessy with you! Should I DM you on Facebook or something to look at dates?
At first I thought you had mud on the ball, but then I realized that you are using the Srixon ball. Thoughts?
They're cool! I can see how they'd be very divisive (no pun intended). But I like watching them react around the greens - it makes me focus harder on putting good strokes on the ball with putter and picking them cleanly with my wedges. They feel very different off the face...almost like a rubber ball. Again, divisive. But I like 'em!
i think we hit most clubs the same distances. i often outscore my buddies who can bomb shots because they have no touch around the green.
Nice video. I'm kind of like you. I'm not all that athletic but decent hand eye coordination. Unlike you, I decided a while ago to go the route of improving my swing first and trying to improve my scores later. Need less to say, I don't score very well despite making nice improvements with my swing.
I hear ya. "Golf, not golf swing" is my mantra.
Even for a 4 handicap your short and mental game is inspiring. Please change ball though, its actually making me dizzy watching it roll 😂
Thanks for the kind words, and lol the ball is even more distracting in person. I kinda dig it, though.
Adam, what's up with the training ball you're using here?
It's a Srixon Q-Star Tour divide.
I'm gonna steal your red light/green light drive stat instead of using fairways. The rough at the courses I play isn't super prohibitive and my striking is better out of it than fairway. Totally different game than yours - I play to a 14 by way of big distance, weak control, and 40 putts per round - so I have a lot I can learn from you 🤘
Also helps that your videos are really calming to watch and your attitude is 25/10.
What golf ball tracer do you use, and what do you use to hold your camera or phone?
I use Shot Tracer Pro for Mac OS. I mount my phone on a small portable tripod. I forge the model name but it was basically just off the rack at a camera shop.
Pretty good golf - but -you didn't hole out on hole 14 :):) what do the rules say about that?
Is that the srixon two-tone golf ball?
Yes!
@@NotAScratchGolfer Sweet, do you like them so far?
@@tylercollins6654 Yeah! Very soft off the face on chips and putts. Feel a bit weird off the face with driver though. And personally I'm a big fan of the "divide' two-tone thing. I know it can be divisive, though.

Did that other dude shake your hand too? He seemed like in a rush and couldnt wait for you to finish?

@@mre_man Yeah it was strange lol
Those golf balls are 👌🏿
People love em or hate em it seems!
@@NotAScratchGolfer I like them, reminds me of paintballs.
You can really see the spin of the ball!
How do those Divide balls feel man? vs. Say, PV1?
I might not be the best guy to ask, but my take is that it feels very, very, very soft off the face with chips/putts. But it also feels downright bizarre off the face with driver - almost like you're hitting a rubber ball.
Why do you use a divide and then do not line it up for your putts 🤔?
I tried using the divide ball to align putts but couldn't set the ball such that it looked right to my eye once I stood over the putt.
I like observing the spin on the divide ball on pitches though + seeing how it reacts around the greens. Subconsciously, I think it causes me to focus more on putting good strokes on putts and making better contact with my wedges. The ball is also very soft off the face, which I like.
Whats a KP ?
i noticed you rarely hit any balls OB and limit 3 putts which is what kills most high handicappers
Right? Plus average 220 off the tee!
Oh God I just did a video in that same shirt!
#whoworeitbetter
You key is you don’t hit it far enough to lose a ball OB.
It's true
Ukraine balls! I liked them but couldn't see them if they ended up blue side up.
