  • We found this senior cat looking for help on a hot summer day. No one had ever seen him here before. You could feel every part of his spine. We named him Vern.
Vern had been living with cancer for some time. We made a plan with our vet to slow the cancer’s progression while he could remain comfortable at home.
Our only goal here was to give him a few months of the life he always deserved - one final chapter of good memories. This is called fospice - a foster hospice case, where very kind volunteers help a terminally ill animal live out the rest of their days with dignity, surrounded by love and comfort.
Although you never met Vern, you made his final chapter so special. It meant the world to him, and to us. Thank you.

@@dinkydoo4994 sorry to hear that you have lost many too. But I will still never regret the time I had with them, even tho the grief is there after, but the love and cuddles from them is worth so much more..
I got my first two cats in 2001, siblings. The two girls both ended with cancer, the first died on my birthday, laying in my arms when she took her last breath, she was almost 12 and her sister 8 month later almost 13 (they were from may) and then I sadly had to say goodbye to one as t the age of 8½, coz of medical issues, she was a kitten I kept after I took a pregnant cat home, her brother's got a wonderful home and their mom I took in got a new home, coz she didn't work with my other cats. The male I got died at the age of 14 back in 2019 and the second last cat I got of the five, I said goodbye to her in 2020, at the age of 12, she had been operated twice to remove cancer and when her kidneys started to fail, the vet gave her 2 weeks, coz of the bad numbers, she lasted 8 month, being happy on medication and kidney diet food. The vet called her a sensation of survival, coz her numbers was so high. After 8 month, she then still didn't want to let go, but I could see that it was time and said goodbye to her. Took me 8 month to get a new cat, Zoro, that I have now, he just turned 3. I have posted vods of his silliness on my channel if you wish to see him, there is a Playlist with him, so it's easier to find it.
And no I don't expect.ypu to watch him, it is only an info if you want to see him 😊
If you have vids of yours I would love to see it.😊

She's been sick for months, and only recently did they do x rays and found the mass. She's recently stopped eating anything but her liquid treats, and mostly sleeps whenever possible. Not much longer for her time to come, after 12 long, happy, loving years with us. Thank you for giving Vern a comfortable, well-loved end to his life as we will for our little old lady Libby.

We lost our 23 year old cat a few months ago. Decided to foster. Took in 2 brothers, 10 years old. Soon wanted to adopt them, but one is not allowed to be adopted due to discovery of terminal oral cancer (SCC). Adopted his brother and still have the cancer sufferer in fospice. We’ll look after him for as long as we’re allowed. We don’t get to make any treatment or euthanasia decisions. We just feed him, medicate him, brush him, pet him and love him and his brother. And try to keep them both out of mischief, which is challenging. He’s the boss of the house, he has his bigger brother under his control.

Thank you Vern for allowing the foster parents to love you. Trust had to be hard, but you let them in and love you. For that, I’m so happy to have seen.
What an amazing cat, what a lovely story.
Please, anyone that reads this, please don’t dump any animal. Take it to a local shelter. Preferably a no-kill shelter. Tell others to do the same. We have to stop this, as well as the feral population.

One of our friendly feral cats had stopped eating recently, and when we brought her to the vet we found that she has very bad dental disease, and probably has a whole host of internal issues. She's so thin, we're unsure whether she would survive the anesthetic, and even if she got all of her issues sorted no problem, she still needs after care, medications, and prefereably somewhere safe to recover, not to mention the vet bills. Since then we've been feeding her a "cat soup" several times a day which she seems to getting down just fine, so she isn't deteriorating as quickly as we feared, but it's still not looking great for her, and I wish we had the option of a 'fospice' for her to recover in and be loved in even if we had to pay for her vet bills. I'd take her in in a heartbeat if it weren't for my cats, and we have nowhere secluded for her to stay. I'm doing my best to give her all of the love and attention I can while she's still here.

This brought me right back to an old job where a coworker told me there was a feral "ragdoll" cat (I always mentioned how much I loved ragdolls) in her neighborhood, and how she'd help me catch and bring him home.
I ended up finding him on my own when she flaked out and was spotted by a neighbor of hers who immediately figured out I was looking for a cat, and brought me to him. He was skinny, malnourished, and on death's door. It was honestly devastating after being told how this was a healthy cat simply in need of a good home.
The kind neighbors gave him to me, as they had been keeping him inside since noticing how lethargic he was, and I took him straight to my prescheduled vet appointment. It was supposed to be an exciting day introducing a new family member into my life, and the vet ended up gently telling me he was too far gone, and I was doing him a service by letting him pass peacefully rather than continue to suffer. His organs were failing, she said it felt like sand had filled his kidneys, and to force him through veterinary care would be a disservice to him.
I cried the entire day for this cat I knew for all of two hours, and I still think about him sometimes.
He was going to be named Leopold, and I had bought so many things in preparation for introducing him to my other cat, Princess Kitty, who passed last year of lymphoma.
I now have four beautiful kitties, one of which is Leopold the Second, who lives the wonderful, spoiled life I wanted to give Leopold the First.
I'm sure Leopold the First was more than happy to see all the things I bought him finally brought out of the trunk of my car to be used for equally deserving kitties.

My critters have a bequest in my will. Anything left goes to a no kill shelter. I don't want anyone skimping on care because it costs too much.
I have also left operating instructions for Moxie. It took me a long time to civilize him and someone could undo my work without meaning to. He was found alone at 8 weeks in a bad neighborhood (chainlink and pit bulls), and had survived by hiding and biting. If a friend plays rough with him with his hands, Moxie reverts to biting. And then I'm back to giving him time outs until he remembers the prime directive: no biting.
I've had to give one friend repeated time outs. He couldn't, or wouldn't, understand how much harm he was doing. No one wants a biting cat.
It took over a year before Moxie allowed me to brush him, and he went from fear to loving it. He's a frightened guy at heart. As long as I am patient and kind, he is a loyal, loving fur monster. He's always going to hide under the bed when most people visit. He eventually learns to trust, but it's not his first instinct. I can't imagine what his early kittenhood was like. I'm glad he got through it!

I'm so glad you found Vern, and that he got to spend his last days cared for and loved; animals are blessed in a way by living in the moment and not in the past or future, so to him, this WAS his life. Thank you for providing Vern with a home, food & medical care. It broke my heart that he was sick on the streets, alone, until you rescued him at his hour of need. I teared up watching his journey & wondered if he was a house cat at some previous point, and I wondered if had he been properly cared for, perhaps he could have lived longer. I loved watching him enjoying a safe space with food and so much love given to him. Thank you for all you do, Flatbush Cats

I'm a monthly financial supporter...it's not much, but as my situation continues to improve I hope to up that. These folks are heros, doing the heavy lifting for those who can't. Thank you for being angels to GOD's creatures here on earth...
My tears aren't enough to say Thank you for helping this beautiful, loving creature. My kitty IS my child. I celebrate Mother's Day because of him , and I am so grateful for his emotional support. After this vid I went in and told my kitty how much I loved and appreciated him. He gave me a couple of meows and half chitters, and went back to enjoying his bird watching and enjoying his momma's loving strokes on his sweet , soft fur. That baby doesn't fault me for my imperfections; he loves me in spite of them. Meows loudly is he can't see me, and is the best shadow a person could ever have. Vern is talking you up to all his new found friends in Heaven. You were his angels on earth.🥺😭Whoever said cats aren't loving or affectionate never found THEIR cat.
My first rescue cat died in my arms from complications of CHF (congenital heart failure.) Along with feline AIDS and feLv, he gave it his all, hiding his sickness from me until he no longer could. I watched his decline, cried, prayed for him to get better. Sadly he experienced a seizure before he passed, looked up at ne like he had long ago with loving eyes, this time not only saying I love you, but "I love you mom. You did all you could." I won't express the level of depression I fell into, more like the next level as I already have major depressive disorder. I found his brother the same way and from where I got him from--the group I now volunteer with. I had a connection with Nicodemus like his brother Simon who passed over the rainbow bridge a little over 4 mths. prior. I still think about Simon, call Nico him, but I love Nico no less and maybe even more. Simon was my first cat. My first kitty baby. I tell Nico about him all the time.
Your vids and countless others I follow show that cats do love, and deeply.
As a fellow rescuer myself who rescued my baby and advocates for adopting and not shopping, thank you. I will always give when I can. You are a blessing to GOD's creatures.
    Be blessed...

We said goodbye the next morning. Something needs to change to allow people to care for their pets. So they can keep their home until they cross over. I hate to see them turned into the streets to suffer because affordable vet care is not in reach. 😢
