Shy street cat meets his grandpa

- I found this cat outside, biting into garbage bags and searching for food. He was confused and wary - not sure who to trust. We’ve never seen each other before this moment - and he doesn’t realize it yet, but as you will soon see - we already have a deep connection. This is Junior's story.

You guys inspired me to start fostering. So far I've fostered two cats and they've found loving homes! I just got two more yesterday, and am working on socializing them
hi, do you have any social media? i'd love to see them and follow their and your story if possible
Congratulations. You'll probably never be out of a job now. LOL. It is wonderful to hear your story. I have 2 strays (always strays), but I have never been able to foster because of working and I live now semi-retired in Scandinavia and there aren't so many stray cats in this part of the world. Just as well maybe because just having the two costs a fortune up here and my pension is not top end.
Here's a tip I rarely see mentioned, but worked WONDERS for me with two 5-6 month old kittens born from a mostly feral farm cat.
I kept them in a room, just large enough to fit a madras and a kitten hidy hole. And I slept there.
Sleeping next to anyone is a HUGE sign of trust, falling into a deep sleep with them nearby told them I trusted them not to eat me.(Not that they could eat me) And showed I had no interest in harming them.
Also, make sure they see you coming with the food and giving it to them.
Makes it very easy for them to understand your giving them food, this isn't food they found.
And I wish you the best of luck Oayah!
I just want to say to @FlatbushCats you sir have a humongous penis. God bless you sir you are a REAL Man, a REAL Human; a Real Soul.
Junior and his grandpa Garfield look so much alike. I'm glad they got to stay together, they obviously love each other a lot. Congrats on the new family member ❤

Something even experienced fosters need to be reminded of - sometimes you don't choose the cat, the cat chooses you. After years of fostering cats with success, I came across a lovely little mama who stuck to me like glue. When I really started to feel conflicted, my beloved old man passed away and made the decision for me. It's like he was waiting for someone who could boss me around as much as he did. The cat distribution service strikes again.
Years ago, I watched a video about a pet psychic. I am a pretty firm, closed off sceptic. But this lady hypnotised me with the sense of relief, being around her (I know, go figure right,) and she said amongst many truisms that cats don't like to pass on without organising a replacement for themselves in the future. Or once they pass, they will spend six months to a year organising a replacement for their humans as they are very sensitive about their humans' grief. If their humans choose not to take the replacement on, not a problem... but they've done their job. Very fussy about it they are.
@@NavigatorMother I never knew that but I totally believe you.

Non profit clinic is everything ❤
Imagine if the model could be replicated. Imagine high-volume, low-cost pet health centres for basic care. I don’t have the experience to pursue what they’ve done, but it’s SO inspiring.

Love that creaky meow!
Sounds like he has something important to say. 😊😊
I have a term that I used in fostering- the “Cinderella Moment”: that heart-melting moment when a cat realizes, “oh my God, I’m safe now”, and you see the loving cat that was there all along, waiting to come out.
Junior has the white peak, Garfield has color. Hard to tell them apart.
Darn onions.
Halfway through this video I was saying "PLEASE tell me you kept this cat" and I cried when you revealed that he's staying with you. I know from your videos how important fostering is to you and am usually excited to see the happy ending of a new forever home, but Junior really felt like he belonged with you. Congratulations on all you've accomplished this year and best wishes for 2024!
I felt the exact same way and I was so happy he’s keeping him!!
I loved Junior and Garfield's relationship. It was a beautiful story about a beautiful cat's journey finding his home. What's amazing is that it was your home.
This man is a wonderful human being ❤
He’s the best friend a stray, feral, or abandoned cat/kitten can find in Brooklyn. He’s the tree that grows in Brooklyn for the felines. I Always enjoy your videos and stories of scritches, scratches, earning the trust of your purring clientele, and spicy floofs!
Definitely know what you mean when you say how special it is when you earn a cat's trust. I used to volunteer at a cat rescue center and made it my mission to try to help a few cats at a time who I thought needed some individual love and kindness (it was a no-cage shelter so the cats were just free roaming). One of the cats I helped was an FIV+ cat I called Cheddar. The FIV+ cats were in a separate room and didn't get as much human interaction so I would try to hang out with all of them and give them some love. Cheddar was affectionate but aloof and I just felt like he needed someone to show him he was loved. Turns out that person was me, I adopted him and he became my best friend. I've never had such a deep connection with a cat, the level of trust and understand we had between each other was something I never expected and yet deeply cherished. Cheddar got lymphoma in 2020 and by the time the vet found it, it was too late. My sweet boy passed away in my arms 3 years ago today. I miss him every day but I was able to go on and get another FIV+ rescue last year who desperately needed a home.
Thank you for helping spread the word about FIV+ cats! There are so many rumors and untrue statements about caring for them and I'm glad people are sharing the truth.
🙏❤🙏
I'm sorry for your loss. Cheddar's existence was a blessing to this world. Rest in peace, Cheddar.
Thank you for gave him the love and care he deserved. I lost 1😿, Totot due to lymphoma in 2020 too. It was just before COVID. The love of my life, Chot who was also Totot's older brother passed away due to complications after surgery to remove tumor in his mouth. 5 months later, Totot passed away. My relationship with Chot just like you and Cheddar. We understand each other and I have deep connection with him.
And THANK YOU for your love & help.
I'm not crying, you're crying.😭
With the orange and gray, the kitty reminds me of my sweet Rosie girl. She was a muted longhair calico who adopted me off the streets one June morning in 1993. I was hers for 21 years.
I belonged to the same kitty for 20 yrs. She was my Mommy .
Losing her broke my soul. It's been 33 yrs, but I still miss her.
Aww! I am so sorry for both of you'alls' losses. Pets are most definitely family, too.
Thanks!
It's such a tough situation. I've fostered over a hundred kittens, and have managed not to keep them, but the seniors are so much harder to pass on once they get used to your house. It feels like you're betraying them. Sometimes, they just need to stay!
I have a a couple that I just had to keep. One was the sole survivor of a litter dumped behind a store in a plastic tub. He constantly bit every one and everything. By the time I got him to stop (he still likes to chew up cardboard) the rescue was swamped with more kittens and he was "too old". Another one got pulled from a PetSmart in cardiac failure. Two vets swore he was about to die. But he didn't. In fact he no longer takes meds and is enjoying a healthy middle age. Now I have two kittens in foster everyone swore were 6 to 8 weeks but they were very wild. No way were they that young, they were closer to 12 to 14 and it's taking forever to tame them.

Cats tame when they're ready. I saved a litter of 5 last June and the last one went to his new home yesterday. Sometimes they just have their own schedule. He benefited from hanging out with one of my senior guys after his siblings left. That calmed him down a lot. The 16 year old enjoyed it too. I think I'm going to put my new ones in with him part time since it went so well.
Man, this video made me so emotional. I love Garfield Jr. He didn't deserve any of the trauma he endured and I'm relieved to know he's doing better now in your loving care.
You and your group's efforts are the thread by which my belief in humanity is supported. I love your empathy and love for cats nearly as much as I love cats. I give what I can, but I can't thank you enough.
doing what you can is all we can do. i make my small donations as well, so that together we can make it bigger.
Wait, that looks like Garfield!
[edit] It is junior Garfield! Thanks for giving him a home with Garfield! I have 3 too and they all get along. I have a grey like Mani who also doesn't like her space invaded but at the end of the day we all sit on the sofa and watch TV together!
Rescued cats are so, so special. I was just snuggling my boy this morning with tears in my eyes. He knows love and the absence of love. He breaks my heart and makes it expand in the same moment. You are doing the work of angels.
So glad he stayed with you and his grandpa cat.
Such a wonderful organization. I live in Vancouver but I'm a monthly donator to Flatbush because of how great they are and I love cats
I live in Portland and donate monthly too!
I live in Europe and donate monthly, a good cause is a good cause, regardless of its proximity
Marin County near San Francisco & donate monthly also
I live in Florida and I am a monthly donor. I'm sure they have donors from all over.
keep him
Grazie.
Love seeing my monthly donations go to these poor babies. And the amazing staffers that put in all this hard work. Ur deeply appreciated. ❤❤❤
❤
Thank you for supporting them! I do too and I'm resolved to donate a little more each month as I can.
I love to think of a cat as a grandpa.❤
I love his body slam style head butt, he puts full effort in behind that. What a gorgeous kitty ❤. Hes going to make a great little snuggle bug for life.
The idea of my cats flinching is truly upsetting. My two are litter brothers, in fact they are the entire litter. They do mutual grooming which usually ends in a tussle but never an out and out fight. They both have their 'safe place' to get away from the other or they come to me for protection. This video has the makings of a Disney movie.
Tearing up...
Seems Jr adopted you!
😍🥰😘 It's so beautiful/touching to see, that even to you, as oldschool TNR/Rescue-activists, a fosterfail can still happen ❣ If the right cat comes along, who are we to deny the universe/fate/cat distribution system ?🤗
I no longer call it foster fail, I call it foster extended.
Thank you for adopting Garfield Jr. He is a beautiful loving cat. You brought out his beauty.
For a second there I thought you were going to adopt Garfield and Junior out as a bonded pair. I"m glad to hear they're all staying home :)
I have 7 in my motor home and 13 right outside my door 🙀
What a beautiful story. I think both Garfield and Junior need each other. Such a sweet bond. 💕
cats are so special, I"m so glad other people love them as much as I do =^..^=
what an emotional story 🥲
i have been waiting on Garfields story since Mani was introduced, and hearing that he has a grandson almost as gentle and comforting as him made this all the more precious
Watching Garfield and Junior together warms my heart. So happy that he found his home.
Thanks you for caring 😻
💚💚💚 My comment is for the youtube algorithms. Thank you Flashbush Cats for all you do. 💚💚💚.💚💚💚 My comment is for the youtube algorithms. Thank you for all you do. 💚💚💚
I have no words to properly express how much I love you guys.
More longer videos like these, please. Donating now. Thank you for all you do!
You are wonderful people ❤❤❤❤❤
I did it as well. I took in a 5 month old feral kitten I trapped this summer ‘as a foster’. But watching her learn to trust me melted my heart. I had a whole litter of bottle baby kittens before, super adorable, and I managed to adopt them all out. They loved everyone, but the older outdoor kitten only loved me so I just couldn’t stop myself from foster failing her.
Man it's raining a lot inside today... your work is incredible and inspiring. I know it's so much work. But it's worth it. I have so much respect for what you do and the sacrifices you make. Thank you
Thank you for allowing me to support you financially monthly. I love knowing I am a part of this.
honestly this is one of the few channels that always makes me cry, mostly because of how horrible humans can be and how much better we should be. Thank you for the video, and for the work you do.
Wonderful informative video. Many veterinarians instill fright in adopters about FIV+ cats. Thanks for the valuable information. As a former cat rescuer I fought tooth and nail against the prejudiced misconception regarding FIV+ cats.
My cat has FIV and my vets told me he could live a long life with proper care. Just to always watch for infection since his immune system isn’t as good. I got him from the humane society and fell in love when he climbed into my lap. He’s very loving and tolerant of my dogs.
Yea!! Thanks for keeping junior!
It’s amazing how much they look alike!
Omg that little meow at 4:05 got me bawling like a baby! It was like he finally accepted that pets felt good. I am weeping!!
your videos never fail to make me cry 😭
that is such a beautiful cat! a face full of so much character. i'm glad you were able to help Junior :]
OMG, you're back! That poor kitty, he must have been utterly terrified. And I have an FIV+ kitty.
See the big difference is they dont charge at u or bite just scared...
He is family....so touching. Love it!
God bless you all for everything you do
Your videos are so powerful, thank you for all you've done and continue to do.
Wonderful video and story ..
So thankful that you educated people about FIV. More will now have the chance to get adopted. 🥰
Agreed! That educated me, for sure. My information was out-of-date.
If I lived nearby, I'd have been there in a 💓 heartbeat. But I live far away. Bless you for what you do.
That may be the best be meow I’ve ever heard from a cat! Thanks for all you do!
Wow...another incredible heart wrenching save...brought tears to my eyes...thank you Flatbush for all that you do...this fills my heart with hope. ❤❤❤
Please remember to give a 'thumbs up' , suscribe, leave a commentt and shaire this vid to help Flatbush Cats 💗💗
So sweet 🥹
Garfield Jr!!! 🥰 I love him. Thank you for saving him.
Also, I took my adopted senior girl to Flatbush Vet a couple weeks ago for a general checkup. I was so impressed. It's such a great practice and I'm so thankful it exists!
I also got a little weepy seeing Teddy's photo in the lobby.
Soooo glad you kept Junior. Fostering is amazing and necessary but foster "fails" are wonderful parts of the grand scheme as well. Congratulations on your new family member!
Have been with Flatbush Cats 🐈 from the start. It's been awhile since your videos affected me. But when Jr finally accepted your scritches, the throat choked up and eyes watered.
Have a community of 6 regular cats, 2 for about 6 yrs. The newest is a very orange tabby, about 6 mos., wandered in, or dropped off, who knows. But he easily accepted our pets and rubs, and the community did as well, tho they sometimes give a little whop to make him settle down, since he is a kitten and plays like one! The low cost spay/neuter clinics are not local and always back logged with appointments. We were lucky at times.
Keep up the good work, and thank you, Flatbush Cats 🐈
What you do is wonderful. I’m a Brooklynite, too, who loves cats but can’t have my own. It’s comforting to know that your veterinary clinic will help residents of Flatbush (and all of Brooklyn) with their pet’s’ medical needs. Say hi to the Junction for me!
Pretty awesome video ❤Great too know you are out there 👍
So good to know you guys are out there in the world doing this
Thank-you!
Thank you! ❤❤❤
Thank you for looking after all the cats 🐱🐱🐱🐱
Foster fail❤
i love Flatbush cat videos and the cause behind them. i’ve donated before and i plan on donating again soon.
I started watching this video last night and then when it sounded like you were giving Junior up, I stopped because I felt so sad. This morning I watched to the end and I am happy. Decisions of the heart are sometimes the best decisions of all❤
Bleurgh crying my eyes out at this. You are just the best people on earth. Cannot thank you enough for what you are doing.
Congratulations on becoming a great grandfather---what a special, beautiful thing.
Beautiful story love this thankyou for saving cats.
The video I've been waiting for so long!!! 😍😍
Worth the wait eh? 🎉😊
Looks like a perfect story for Christmas to me...❤
Flatbush Cat is in my prayers everyday, may you and all your team and your sponsor and all the animal lovers in the world be blessed with love, health and ability to rescue and help sufferings of the stray animals.❤
Wonderful video just donated from the UK.
Beautiful thank you very much 🙏🏻💙💚💙💚💙💚💙💚💙🔆🔆🔆
He’s lovely. Thank you for taking care of him. He’s obviously doing so much better off the streets ❤
Very heart warming, from start to end. Happy to see grandpa and Jr together ❤❤❤
you guys are real life supermen and superwomen. love you and admire
Thank you for your ❤!!!!
I can't thank you enough for all you guys do. You're amazing and I am so grateful for your ability to change the lives of so many cats.
It's an amazing feeling when they accept your pets for the first time. Some come around sooner, with some it takes a while longer, but it's all worth it.❤❤❤
WOWWWWW!!!!!! I've been supporting you guys monthly for a couple years now but I ddin't know that you are fostering over 100 cats --- OR --- that you built the clinic! Bravo, I feel so proud to be a part of it! Junior is a TwoThumbsUp cat! 💗
Thankyou for all you do! You indeed love these cats!
love you.....everytime you make a video like this I end up increasing my monthly donation....cats are spirits of the highest order of the universe.
What a beautiful story. I wish there was a group like yours in my city.
I just love your work. I'll be a lifelong donator for sure.
beautiful boys, thanks so much for helping them :*)♥
Aww they are so sweet together! Thank you for all the great work! ❤
