    You're a good storyteller 😊 As a non-Mormon, I don't understand the uprightness around sex with the founder appearing to be a profligate sex addict? 😮

      It seems very common in traditional religious circles. It's common in Evangelical circles, like Baptist and Wesleyan circles too.

    Another great episode! I had no idea B tied the alien story to the gathering of Israel, and now that part of the story makes so much more sense.

      Agreed, Beth is an awesome storyteller. I’m a ‘never-Mo, hadn’t heard much of this story/seen it on Netflix. It’s 🤯😳, cringe, infuriating, and a lot of other words that would get me banned.

    The fact that people can be manipulated to such an extent is just astounding. Truly astounding. Your breakdown definitely helps fill in the gaps from the netflix documentary because the aliens theme didn’t make any sense to me…until now! I appreciate you breaking this down and I just subscribed!

    When I first saw this story portrayed on Netflix, my jaw felt like it fell to the floor, then to the basement, then even lower still. And happened just 20 min from my hometown!

    This story is just mind blowing. The fact that both parents were so naive and were abused themselves just so he could get to their child just makes my brain want to run away. He made them complicit in his crime. That is a tactic that these monsters use often. Jan being able to function day-to-day is in itself amazing. This long saga of abuse would destroy many people completely.
    I also keep hitting the fundie Catholic-Mormon connection. I’m wondering if you have seen it also.

      @@MormonTrueCrimelike, noticing a pattern of these abrahamic religions being great tools for these monsters, they practically groom perfect victims for the worst people on the planet, and scripture is so flowery and vague it can be twisted to support anything you want, also a convenient tool fpr manipulators that comes pre-brainwashed into many people. These religions actively harm people, in so so many ways, but we can’t call them out on that because “freedom of religion” somehow applies to systemic grooming if you just say god told you to. They ruin lives with the indoctrination of children into a belief system that imbues self hatred for totally normal things that is nearly impossible to shake, ive yet to meet an ex religious person that doesn’t still have some lingering trauma from it that interferes with their day to day life, their ability to have a healthy relationship with themself, their body, their spirituality, their family. Spirituality is a human need, but organized religion seems impossible without turning into hate groups and causing widescale mental and physical trauma. We as a species need to recognize that and stop pretending you can just do whatever you want if you say your god told you to.

    Adore that neurodivergent brain of yours! I couldn’t understand why they left all the background out of Abducted in Plain Sight, it just made the family seem really stupid. Awful to do to people who were already harmed.

      They agree. Thats why they speak out now - to protect every other child they possibly can because they know they were blind to this and wish they had done it all different.

    I cannot tell you how it feels to live near these things that you talk about. I lived in Canada at the time this one went down, but my spouse has lived in ID for nearly his whole life (university elsewhere). Space Burgers! I've had them! Tastee Treat has closed its doors . . . think it was last year? Spouse says they used to be called Tastee Freez before they were Tastee Treat.
    Oh: I am an "evil apostate." 😀---like you, I suppose. I'll be back!---even though it's incredibly creepy!

    I also received a letter from Salt Lake, asking for my input on letting a predator back in to membership. I said no, and took 40 pages to explain why. What you are not clear on here is what Jan actually said. She may have complained about him, but was it a yes, I give permission, or a no? I ask this because I was pressured with a second letter asking for permission again. I’m curious about Jan’s experience if she said no.

    • @MormonTrueCrime
      @MormonTrueCrime  6 місяців тому +3

      From what she told me that was the only letter, but that his membership was reinstated anyway.

    • @MormonTrueCrime
      @MormonTrueCrime  6 місяців тому +4

      And no she wrote a letter, as I stated that he was a predator and exposing what he had done. I feel that communicates it isn’t a yes.
      The thing with these episodes is I’m literally in a studio recording up against a timer in one go. So any missed details are impossible to add in or correct unfortunately.

      @@MormonTrueCrimethanks for the reply. I’m really sad Jan had to go through the same victim invalidation I did. If her experience is like mine was, EVERY victim had to have been badgered by their church leaders every 3-6 months for a yes until they gave consent. They are told that the greater sin lies in them.

    Im only in the beginning but are we sure a therapist told him that?? Because even if he convinced the therapist he had been assaulted instead of grooming a girl as he was accused of, this is NOT any kind of valid therapeutic exercise
