- We bought the Alpicool T50 12 volt compressor refrigerator and put it through the test of a month long, bumpy road trip. Did this fridge work out ok? Is it noisy? Does it run the battery down? Work on solar power? Is it any good or is it a piece of junk? If you're thinking about getting one for your RV then you should check out what we have to say about it.

Thank you for a refreshing, 'Real World' review Rick!
My pleasure, Zebra Pot!
Great review! Cold beer and camping go hand in hand, in my book. (Little sip'n whiskey never hurt either.)
Good stuff!
Took your recommendation and bought one. Just used it to haul a full load of frozen food from here in Minnesota out to our kids in Missoula Montana. Worked great! Best thing was that we brought back a good load of Wilcoxson’s ice cream!
That's darn good ice cream! Glad the reefer is working out for you and that you got to visit Montana.
That was an excellent review. Thank you for taking the time to do that
This is an awesome reveiw. I really was sold on all your facts and personal usage on it. Well done! Thinking of buying one tonight!
We've had a smaller Alpicool for a couple of years now and it still runs like new. I know you'll be pleased with yours.
I'm currently doing a lot of research in to 12v compressor fridges and this is an excellent review!
Even when I think I know a subject well, your videos always teach me something new and interesting. Thanks!
My pleasure!
Thanks so much for taking the time. This was on my short list and I think it's a pretty solid choice.
Very welcome!
WOW, I like the auto duel zone!
Thanks for the review. I've been doing my own research for awhile. Looks like a great deal.
Great review! Waiting for the T50 to come back in stock. Thanks again
We always look forward to your reviews. They are always honest and straight to the point. Thanks for the good information that you do share to those of us who need to know the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth.
I try to do my best on these reviews, even when the product is supplied gratis, but this one was out of our own pocket. Thanks Sharon.
Easy to fix if ever needed. Thank you for sharing.
That was one of the most beneficial 12-volt refrigerator reviews I've ever heard there were several points that I learn something. I had questions about Duel Zone you explain the on this particular unit non-regulated power supply. The alphacool information. I think the number one thing I learned is you paid for it you're not looking for an endorsement or the next free deal and you will review it in the future accurately
I'll do an update towards the end of summer most likely. Thanks Wes!
Agreed
@@gonagainlook forward to it
I still wonder if the regulated 12v feed comment was based on an mppt controller and a larger charging system. I only say this because the most will raise voltage to the batteries at times. I know its 12 or 24v but if its switched then it may not like 18- 20 volts in a 12 volt setting. I say this considering a direct battery connection while solar panels are collecting and the most controller is boosting to 18 ish volts. Thats the only thing I could think of that would warrant their comment on the 2 channels he referenced.
thank you for the review, you have finally made my choice on purchasing one of these very very helpful
Excellent explanation of this product. Using your link in your description to buy one today. Thanks for the help and the review!
I just wanted to say, that this is one of the most informative and best done videos I have seen on 12 V refrigerator units. It hit every question you could possibly have, and several I had not thought about like the padding underneath it… Great idea. Just want to tell you how much I enjoyed it.
Thanks Marshall. My reviews have been slowly evolving and I try to discuss the actual usage and not just the technical specs.
Best product review I've ever watched! Precise, to the point and includes problems and solutions. Thank you so much; you confirmed my purchase decision!
Agreed. Loved it.
was it worth it
Yes I agree cold beer is very important and I learned a lot today thank you
You have put my mind at ease. Having done as much research as I could I bought one. Unfortunately it is in such demand it won’t be delivered until September. Your review confirms all the separate bits of information I’ve managed to glean elsewhere plus those little extras (strange noises and rattles etc.). Thanks buddy, great review.
Sir, I like your straight-forward no nonsense approach on everything you do. I appreciate the time and effort that you go through to bring concise and informative opinions from your use of your equipment and the resources that you've utilized. I'm glad I subscribed to your (and Linda's) channel! I have an addiction to 'binge' watch though! Thank you for all your videos! Best regards -Steve-
We appreciate that and it means a lot to hear you say that. Thank you!
@@gonagain Can the whole refrigerator be used as a fridge or is it half fridge and half freezer?
By the way, will it work with with a bluetti eb150 using the car charger or something?
Thank you so much for the informative video mate!!
Hello from Ohio Rick! Your bullet casting video brought me to your channel! I'm knew to reloading and have learned a lot from your videos! My Fiance and I have been binge watching your videos and we love them! I hope you and Linda are well and keep up the great work!
Thank you Mighty Mosh. That kind of encouragement helps a lot!
Just got my ice chest and really love it. Mostly love the efficiency
Really cool! One takes care of all. Thank you for sharing.
I see what you did there! :)
Thanks for watching!
That’s pretty ‘Kool’ (pun intended) . That’s something I would be interested in, great video...as usual. 👍
Great vid, I was under the impression that it's best to only buy an electric bank with a 12 volt regulator in order to be able to run fridges & such. Thanks for your clarifying this important point.
Best review for this product! Thanks!
thanks, you just confirmed my choice for the alpicool. The wife and I love the show
Thank you guys!
I like the option of having a freezer well done keepWing
Really appreciate the attention to detail. Thank you.
Just got the Costway 53 quart fridge, same as your T50, and found your video very informational. We hope also that it serves us well for many years.
It's working just fine!
Just got mine today. Waited about 12 hours before I turned it on (ac). It went from 75F to 30F in 15 minutes. This fridge is gonna be a game changer.
Very thorough review! Definitely getting this thing.
It's remarkably efficient. Thanks for the video
It sure surprised me.
I like that you speak very clearly, almost like a top-notch university professor. English is my second language and I understand you very well. I like the way you started the video with important questions you will be answering in the video- that got my attention.
I'm glad you enjoyed it.
Excellent review concise and direct to points that matter!
I’ve often wondered about those types of small coolers so I really appreciated your review and explanations. Linda has given me the idea to take up ax-throwing. Looks like fun. Ya’ll stay safe (stand behind Linda. Ha ha!)
Thanks for watching, Sandy!
Very nice review. Sir. I'm enjoying your channel keep them coming. Thank you.
Very nice refrigerator review looking forward to the second review
I'm glad you found out why your portable pack was having an issue. Some fridges you lower the limit, some newer power packs, you can extend the hours that the pack runs on low voltage. Either way, you can run the fridge. Some power packs, like the smaller Jackery's, cut out due to the low voltage setting, and a lack of an extended low voltage timer., which isn't really the power packs fault.
Excellent video! Very detailed and informative. Thank you!
I have been back and forth between this Alpicool and the Costway. I think your video has caused me to rethink.
I like the Alpicool. The option of 2 compartments or just one is a real plus...
Thanks for posting.
Glad you got something out of it. We had a warrantee problem and they were fantastic. Really fast service.
Finally, some helpful information. Thank you.
Thank you for the review. I have been shopping around and watching reviews on youtube. I'm sold on the Alpicool T50. Love the dual zone. Can keep a bag of ice in the freezer for cocktails and regular ol camping groceries that need to stay cool in the fridge. If it keeps that ice frozen I can even make frozen margaritas. Happy travels:)
It should handle keeping ice just fine. Save me a shot!
Hello from London, UK. I just bought one of these and your video was very useful and very-well presented thank you :)
Glad it helped, Fred.
Really glad I found your video as the explanation of the low power setting contradicts everyone else. I new there is a way to power it longer from a non-regulated power station since the vehicle is not regulated. I really appreciate it and I will confirm with Alpicool as to model I am planining to get to see what the lowest setting is for it. It may be different for other models. Thank you.
Glad it was helpful!
I bought the exact same one, but with the Stakol brand name. Both made by Costway. I love this unit. I am using it as a spare freezer and have both compartments set at 0 degrees. So far it has been working as expected. Since I intend to move out of this apartment by next year, now I have a way to preserve my expensive grass fed meats during the trip from NJ to FL...
Ours is working fine too, although I did have to send the first one back. I'll have a video coming out soon about that and how the warranty service was very good from Alpicool. I also learned that the compressors are very good quality.
Great review! I have been passively studying which one to buy and will need one by this summer. Your review was excellent. Glad the Y-tube program lead me to you.
Hello Walter. Alpicool makes refrigerators for a lot of companies, such as Bodega.
Great job , Rick. I use a propane fridge but your channel makes me wish I had gone with a build my own set up. I admire you minimalist approach and know you help many people get on the road. I like that a lot. See you down the road my friend.
Thanks 👍
You can have both. I have a propane fridge too, factory installed in my older RV and it is very handy - never have to worry about power supply. But sometimes, a second fridge on an alternate power supply is good to have.
Brilliant fella thanks for sharing... All the stuff we need to know
Man I already purchased a high efficiency 110 frig freezer for my camper build. Oh well thanks for the video Rick. By the way, when you started to take the cover off the compressor, it reminded me of taking apart my father's new lawnmower when I was a kid. My Dad walked into the garage and about had an heart attach!! He told me that it better be put back together and running when it was time to cut the grass or else! Got it back together and running just in time, dodged a bullet... safe travels Perry
An inquisitive mechanical mind is something to be encouraged and it's good that your dad spared the rod in your case. Lucky you! My dad was the same and never complained about me getting into his tools.
hello from the rainy ozarks rick and linda!! i have one like yours and i havent had any issues in 6months so far! tight lines and cheers!!
That's good to hear Phillip. Mine is getting a bumpy ride on the trailer floor, so we'll see how it does. I'd like to find a way to cushion it if I can without it getting too bouncy.
Mine has been working for more than 1-1/2 yrs and all is well. Wss so happy l purchased a 30 qt model. Didn't go big till l knew this inexpensive unit was ok...l made the investment watching Slim Patatohead who initially made the purchase and review. He's worth subscribing to as he's one of the best on You Tube.
Oh my original C20 unit does a fantastic job keeping my beer cold!! Mine is vy quiet. Oh no piston. Now they use a scroll compressor that uses 2 plates with.one rotating over the other to capture and compress the refrigerant as it gets squeezed thru the scroll circular-like vanes. They are more robust, uses fewer parts.
Awesome a real review and not some adware review
Just noticed the gun rack broom. Great way to keep it out of the way. TAKE CARE..
I bought this unit based on this video and it was spot on. I really enjoy camping with this unit. I do use both fridge and freezer option. I like to have ice and ice cream. Thanks for the review.
Thank you for your review, Patricia.
That purrrrring noise it makes is your CAT in the background : )
Awesome Review, I've been shopping for just such a thing as this, I really like all the good things You've pointed out.. This just might be the next choice for us, thanks for sharing! 👍 😉
Thanks for watching!
We really like our T50 Alpicool.
We purchased it end of May and have had no problems so far. I made a insulated cover made out of foam board.
We need to do that too. It did really well though as long as we kept the sun off and a cover would help with that for sure.
@@gonagainLike you and Linda we have it setup as a refrigerator. Also we don't use the baskets as they take up usable space, some items won't fit in them.
Nice! We have two alpicool cx40's for overlanding and they've been solid!
I'm happy to hear that and hope our's lasts too because of lots of bumpy roads. We've been researching the GX470 lately as a future replacement for our Yukon and I've subscribed to your channel to check it out.
Getting ready to buy my 1st RV cooler. The T-50 is the one I am interested in. Your great, detailed review helped me make the final decision. Found it on Amazon on sale. Can't wait to try it out camping next month. Thank you for a very detailed review. Dan
Finding it on sale on Amazon is perfect.
@@gonagain - I am curious about the stove heater in your camper. Does it run on LP gas only or wood too? Did you make a video on it?
Wow your a great salesman you made me buy one. I’m a truck driver and had no idea these even existed.😳
These 12volt compressor refrigerators are very efficient too.
Excellent indepth review. Some great tips too. Thanks 👍
I run 160 watts solar & two 6volt Costco batteries. I Have an old norcold 45 qt 12 volt single zone unit. I Only use it as a freezer set at 6 deg F. Freeze water bottles over night and rotate them in my high quality cooler, this keeps as a refrigerator. I think it’s continuous and could go for? At least A long time. Frozen meat, frozen vegetables, and don’t forget ice cream. It pushes at least 10-14 days for two people.
Keep up the good times. Thanks for sharing.
Thank YOU for sharing! That's really good information and I can see that it doubles your available space.
My wife and I are heading out west in about four weeks. Plan on spending a month or so. We also have a converted cargo camper 6x12. You have been a great help. Now I have to get a refrigerator. lol See you down the road. Karl
Hope to see you and your wife on the road sometime!
Great review
Great review and helped me decide.
That is a very detailed and clear review. Thank you sir for this awesome video!
Good review I bought one through the winter I have run it in the house for a fue days and works well want to get out on the road and see for my self how well it works 😎👍🇺🇸
Ours continues to work just fine. I'm sure yours will too.
I have the same one and have used it all summer not bad for the price I camp a ton in northern minnesota all summer.
👍👍👍 Great video. Love that tomahawk throwing at the end. 😁
Love the video. I am on the market for one right now. Thanks!
I just shot a follow-up review and we still like it!
Very nice Rice, watching on my lunch break at work 👍🏻😎
Thanks Greg!
Thank you so much for the good review you covered all the points, excellently and gain a new follower. Cheers.
Great video thinking of getting one and I must say you gave great usefull information . I'm tired of ice and I can see you seem very pleased thanks so much Dale
No more ice coolers for us, that's for sure.
@@gonagain Hi forgot to ask if you have consecutive cloudy days how does your battery and solar hold up
Hello! Just watched a couple of your videos. Really enjoyed them! 👋👍❤️
We subscribed!😄
Thank you for subscribing Debbie.
Well done Sr. Muchas gracias.
Thanks for information! I plan on buying a fridge soon. I've been looking at arb, coolmaster and etc, but now I'm leaning towards your way! Thanks again! Just subscribed.
The ARB is certainly high quality, but this Alpicool I have has a good track record with offroaders and truckers. I read all the reviews and even the ARB and Dometic have their share of complaints so I chose this one.
@@gonagain I just about positive I'm going to buy an Alpicool and a jackery. Thanks again!
I just bought one of these and my plan all along was to disprove the "can't run it off a unregulated PS." I got a small power box like the one you showed and I plan to plug a portable solar panel into it and I bet that runs no problem for as long as the sun holds out.
That should work just fine, especially if you're only using it as a refrigerator.
Excellent review thanks
i got an iceco jp50 its a nice fridge i do like some of the features of this one though. i keep my fridge in the back of my truck so noise isnt an issue and its not generating heat inside my trailer. Not having to buy ice and deal with the water is great.
Scrolling through my feed and I see this. First thought, when did my dad start doing youtube? Same face, same tee shirt, same hat, same glasses. Damn just found dads dopleganger.
Great video wonderful information on the 12 V refrigerator thank you for sharing big hugs for Minnesota stay safe
Thank you Dan!
@@gonagain I just order the same as yours my friends ,thank you
Nice review mate! A bit of tech stuff makes difference. I am also looking to buy Alpicool fridge for my fishing sessions for this year.
Great review.
Great review! Thanks.
Great video. First time seeing your channel. I like it & appreciate your no nonsense style. Refreshing. All my best. Thank you for doing this review. Just for those that way the cost comparison:
* Average (L) bag of Ice @ $4+
X 5 (per trip used)
= $20 (per trip)
*10 trips (average according to AAA) people take per year.
= $200 saved per year.
* Pays for itself in less than 2 years. Keeps on saving you from that point on. Every trip.
* Besides the gas you'd use going to get ice.
* No draining of water & soggy foods.
*****WIN-WIN****
Great comparison and don't forget the cost of throwing away that soggy food.
Well articulated.
nice review no fluff. thanks
We bought a 54 quart compressor fridge/freezer single zone with Bluetooth. We use it in our 5th wheel as a fridge to keep all of our drinks in and to chill any food that we buy at the grocery store before adding it to our big 12 cu.ft. absorption refrigerator. This keeps the traffic in and out of the big fridge down to meal times. When the temps outside go above 90 degrees absorption refrigerators have to work hard to stay really cold. We love our little compressor fridge and so fr it’s great. We’ve had it running 24/7 for three weeks now and have had no issues.
Thanks for sharing that because it's nice to see how others manage the available cold.
Great video!
Great video, clear and concise. I think the point about regulated 12 volt supply needs clarification. Some refridgerators will stop working if the supply pressure drops below 12 volts. A regulated 12volt supply from your lithium power station will maintain this voltage regardless of state of charge in the power station battery, so that your fridge will continue to work.
Good point. On this Alpicool I was able to set that down to 9 volts.
@@gonagain thanks for your reply. Pretty good if your compressor Alipicool fridge/freezer can continue working at 9 volts. That should be useful for smaller power stations.
@@barry-cq4xg after almost 24 hours it was down to 10.6 volts and still going. I figure it will go down to 9 because that's the setting on the fridge itself, but I guess we'll see.
Thank you, you helped me solidify my choice by providing specific user data and not marketing gibberish.
Nice refrigerator. Great Review
Very nice, thank you.
This is gold, thank you
Great video! I have the same one. Love the Bluetooth. Did a cross country 3,600+ miles trip with my Alpicool (freezer, single mode). Needed to keep some meat frozen. I stayed in hotels overnight and didn't want to take the freezer in/out the hotel. I used an AUX battery in a battery box overnight. One night, it clicked off by morning (F1 fault on display). I charge the AUX battery with a 3A 12v charger + running the freezer off that battery while day-driving. Bad move! I wasn't able to keep the AUX battery charged up AND run the freezer over night at the same time. Solution (night two-three): ended up running the freezer on a separate power socket and charge the AUX battery separately during the day while driving. Then, at night swap over to AUX battery. Worked perfectly. The final problem I had (my fault). I had the cutoff set on 12.0 volts. I now have it set on 9.0 volts and purchased a Dakota Lithium 54 aH (691 Wh) battery...zero issues running all night. Made some mistakes, but figured it all out. When not on the road....I use it on the back patio. Thanks for doing a video on this unit!
Thanks for sharing your experience. Ours has been on some major roadtrips and we like it, but I'll be doing an update after it's well used.
We have a old cabin with a old propane fridge that has not worked in years. I am definitely looking into one of these for the cabin.
They're efficient. Awhile back we looked at a cabin that was for sale and hadn't seen any use in a long time and were surprised to find the refrigerator running and cold. It was 12 volt and running off of the solar system. Thanks for watching Bradley!
Great review as usual.
Thank you Jim. I'll most likely update how it's working in the future sometime.
I bought the CF55 58qt. running a week now with solar in the shade for the most part little sun but working fine so far. It's fridge or freezer not dual zone but I agree way worth the money.
You could try freezing water bottles too cool an ice chest and have the best of both worlds. Depending on how much power it draws as a freezer.
