Bought a 12 volt refrigerator/freezer four years ago this October. It isn't a dual zone, but runs very quiet on the maximum setting. The refrigerator is kept between 31° ~ 32° F., which is how I enjoy my drinking my whole milk. I don't even know what brand I purchased.
I tried the link but it would not work on my computer nor on my phone. it kept timing out or it would say "address is invalid". do you have another link? TY
Yeah -as a poster stated below….its hard watching your videos because I buy everything you test with positive results. Another great review. Thank you and I just bought the APL20! 😅
they also upgraded their packing...this time my fridge was pristine...my previous ICECO (VL-45) came pre-dented (they did give me some money back for my trouble, it doesn't deter from function)
I set the temp on my new apl35 to 37f on both sides then plugged it into my ecoflow delta,,,It ran the cooler for just 3 hours short of 6 days ! Thank you Mr Hobo for your vids 😊😊
Nice. I almost bought the go20 but it was just a little bit too short and narrow to be really usable for a several day trip. So I went for the Ecoflow Glacier
Just used my EcoFlow Delta 2 Max used 1,400 W/H in a 24 hour period. I did did top off iPhone twice. Easy to use especially with the Bluetooth connectivity.
Beautiful, High Quality & Brilliantly Engineered Portable Refrigerator/Freezer. I must have. Thank you 🙏 Brother for the Very Informative & Detailed Review. As Always.
I upgraded the dc plug on my cheap cooler to a Marine locking plug which is compatible with the solor generator I have. Never popping out on it's own again. These Iceco fridges look really good. on my wish list.
My Iceco VL75 Pro has two lids, but cost $1000. It’s black and so cool looking. I love it, but I’ve wanted one this size for my smaller van I’m now in. I’m pet sure I’d get this dented up in no time.
I have the APL55 and apl20. I would have bought the 35 for sure over the 20 if I was buying one for now. Both are awesome fridges. Never going back to coolers
After your breakdown on the Iceco, I poked around and bought one. Not the dual zone, but a larger single zone. Will be backup to my RV fridge. Getting the list all crossed off, for the land yacht to be ready. She's got new shoes, and most all the bugs are shaken out of it. After a trip (cheap, I am sure!) to Cummins for service of engine and genny, will finally get Henrietta Hippo trundling around the West.. Only big project remaining is solar and new big batteries..... have to lay off for a while for that, been sorta setting fire to piles of cash!
Recently purchased an Iceco APL35 from Inca Overland Outfitters for $539 total out the door. Experiencing issues with internal temps not making and staying at setpoint. When setting either side to "Freezer" mode (0 deg F setpoint) and the other side to "Refrigerator" mode ( 39 deg F setpoint), the side that is in "Refrigerator" mode dips down to and remains at 21 to 28 deg F. Going to contact Iceco customer support about issue today. UPDATE 10/29/24: Iceco customer support provided me with an APL35 "Temperature Compensation" procedure that resolved my issue. Unit now running great. Very pleased with Iceco customer support.
Great looking product and review... But when doing temp check, it's best to put something in the freezer...air doesn't freeze. I'd fill it with water bottles or bags of beans
O havec2 of the Iceco 20xs And love them. Wife has one in her 4 Runner and uses it for grocery shopping. We live in the country in Texas, so her grocery shopping days can take all day. This is the size I wish they had when I bought ours. Granddaughter uses the other one for her camping trips in Colorado.
Great review Hobo. I am looking hard at the APL55 Dual Zone. Very pricey but I like the stainless steel vs. aluminum. I also like the slow close lid but I do wish it was a dual lid. The digital display is placed in a more reasonable position and having connectors on both ends of the box is a great feature as well.
Nice construction, but I really think the changemore you reviewed and I purchased, is a better buy, and the changemore Has an optional battery with solar input. We use the battery all the time.
Iceco sells an insulative cover to protect it and keep thermal temps more stable in super-hot and super-cold temps. it's on their web site now. I ordered one.
Thanks for the review! Was set on getting Iceco VL35 ProS with removable, dual side lid as my 1st minivan fridge. This is lighter! And just a touch smaller on the outside. Like the seal and dual zone features and lack of plastic.
How many 100 watt solar panels does it take to power your fridge and a station on an ongoing basis? Bought the fridge, now wondering how many panels do I need?
The question I have is how do standard size containers fit in these compartments and how much space is leftover? I’m using an Igloo Thermoeletric Cooler 28 qt. It has lasted me for years, it’s power hungry beast. When going on vacation, I like visiting microbreweries and local food shops. How much I can stuff in a cooler is important. I sometimes take my old 5 day 50qt Igloo ice cooler if I need a lot of storage.
What a great unit. If I didn’t have the JP40 already, I would get it. Dual zones is what I have been waiting for. Do wish it were 40L. I seem to need all 40 for my trips. Thanks.
Fridges use a lot of battery. Question? Does a 120v ice maker use less battery power when combined with an efficient cooler? The benefit of an ice maker is that you always have ice for drinks. I would love to see your take on this. Keep up the good work! Cheers.
Thanks for the video, it answered several questions i had. The reflective properties of this unit seem to help in keeping this cool. Will a cover help insulate it or will the cover make the reflectiveness less effective?
Good review. I'm curious about two things in case anyone knows: 1. ICECO does not seem to make a larger aluminum fridge (like this one). Why not? 2. If not aluminum, what is the outer case of most ICECO fridges made out of?
I like that fridge, I wonder how Dometic, ARB, Engel sales are going? I just checked and their fridges are around $1200-$1700 now. not worth it by any means considering you don't use these fridges that often. The price on this fridge is really really good.
Feature request from ICECO #1 build dual fans into the lid. This will help cool down or freeze food considerably faster. App controlled of course #2 include a paper template to scale so we can add insulation panels or fabric to the outside without interfering with the units cooling needs but increasing its efficiency #3 include a 12/24v power cable with crimped connectors for hardwiring the fridge. It does look beautiful and I’m sure the aluminum would hold up great in the marine saltwater environment as well. The light weight has me wondering though. 2 extra inches of insulation on all sides helps tremendously to keep compressor cycling low and energy consumption to a minimum. 👍👍

Hi Tom, here in the UK a van dweller is using a 240v fridge running off a smart inverter, as a household fridge is cheaper the a 12v compressor fridge, when the fridge gets to temperature it cuts off the smart inverter so it's not running all the time, could you try a test like this ? Thank you 👍
Love it but it's just too big for this weekender. Can you recommend anything smaller? I'd really love to find a tiny freezer with it's own battery that I can swap out while the other one charges.
If I recall correctly, it can be problematic taking an IR temperature reading from a reflective surface. I've seen folks applying non-reflective tape to a reflective surface to get a more accurate temperature reading. Maybe white tape would do the trick if you're measuring temperature of a reflective surface in the sun?
FYI, while this sandblasted style aluminium is better at this, metals and reflective material are (generally) very inaccurate with no-contact thermometers. What i usually do with things like server and computer chassis is put a piece of black electrical tape on the spot i want to measure, let it sit for a minute or 2, then measure from the tape and i often get a vastly different temperature. Sometimes its hotter than bare metal reradings, sometimes its cooler, because what i was actually measuring was a reflection from say the wall behind the device, or the exhaust of another server, and the surface was actually warmer/cool to than the thermometer was measuring. Edit, i'm not saying that these measurements were off, but they could be.
Yep, several others already complained about this test. I assure you the metal wasn't hot to the touch so 90F was probably very close. I think folks are ignoring the results and focusing too much on minutiae.
@@HOBOTECH Oh yea, less of a problem with these matte finishes which is why i dont make a big deal and say "ThEsE nUmBeRs ArE iMPoSsIbLe" just more as a reference for anything you may do in the future.
Have you had occasion to look at the vevor fridges and dual zones? I searched the channel and only found the bougie ones...but youtube search is...hopeless.
my well insulated ice box keeps cold for 4 days. can buy 100 bags of ice for ~$500 capital cost. i would choose my ice box. nothing hi tech to go wrong, less weight, no battery to drain. sure it’s a great unit & shows where we’re headed
@@gastiresoil9758 I spent $96 yesterday at super Walmart, got two flimsy bags of food, two 1 gallon iced tea and 1 gallon organic milk. Inflation is out of control.
No one is ever happy with this test. Some say full, half full, or empty. I'm doing empty from now on because it's worst case and tests the insulation and compressor the most. If you fill with food from a deep freezer the compressor won't kick on for hours. That's not an accurate test.
Doesn't aluminum transfer heat and cold very efficiently, thus making it easy to heat up in the heat and harder to stay cold? And won't the outside get hot if it's outside in the heat? Plastic is less efficient and thus holds the cold better because it doesn't hold heat. I'm I wrong about this? Edit: your outdoors test answered my question! Nice to know you're in Arizona. Edit 2: come to Phoenix and a day test in the sun.
Without explaining the physics, metal both heats and cools faster. The fact it is reflective and thin acts like a heat shield. It doesn't actually absorb and hold heat like thick plastic. They used very thin gold sheets on the Apollo missions to protect the capsule from direct heat of the sun.
I would be interested in this unit if I didn’t have such a bad experience with my first one dying on me, and the absolutely frustrating experience of getting ICECO to replace it. The replacement unit doesn’t work well, I suspect it will soon be dead because it’s having a hard time keeping 0 degrees, fluctuating up to 24 F in the shade. (It is used in a class A RV on a slide in the basement bay, powered by 120 volts ac)
The test is kinda useless. 1) power usage is drastically affected by the refrigerator's contents' thermal mass. 2) If you use one side as a freezer, the power usage skyrockets. Since this is a dual zone fridge, the test should have been done with one side running as a freezer.
contents really only effect the power usage when you are trying to change the temperature of the contents. It takes alot of energy to cool a galon of 70 degree water down to 37 degrees. However if you already have that gallon at 37 degrees the fridge does not need to work as hard to keep it there. At that point its basicly just a test of the insulation of the compartment and how much power the compressor needs to compensate for heat transfer to the outside. More thermal mass will dampen out the swings in temp but you'll still be looking at a similar amount of power consumed to keep the compartment at a given temp, it will just cycle more often without any thermal mass to cool.
@@merendell 1) It's "affects" and not "effects". 2) You're making a meaningless point. Part of the test of a fridge's power usage *always* includes some aspect of its insulation (otherwise it would never cool). So WTF is your point? A proper test would be to measure how much energy would be used with a fixed mass (or a fixed percentage of a mass) at a given target temperature with that mass already at that temperature.
Test was ran with one side as freezer. I mentioned twice one side was 37 other side 0. I can never make anyone happy with this test as people complain if it's full, half full, or empty. I now do what's more consistent, and that's run empty as it tests the insulation and compressor the most.
I wouldn't want an Aluminum fridge. Aluminum dents and scratches way, way too easily (It's elemental, so don't. tell me that it doesn't). Stainless steel is far better for a fridge application.
This video is an example of why I stopped following you. I enjoyed your early videos but slowly the quality of your testing has been degrading.Test failed instead of re doing it to get a quality test you just say "ohh well video needs to be out" also did not show the temperature of the freezer side after overnight test you cut it out twice out of video not to show it?
Temps are shown on fridge screen during time lapse. I couldn't redo the 24hr test because this video had to come out today. Sometimes things are out of my control. I think the results are accurate enough for someone to make a purchase decision.

There was NO BANG-BANG DOUBLE FISTED BATTERY CAPACITY TEST ??? Oops, NO BATTERY INVOLVED 🙆🙆🙆
Dumb question, could this be used as a faraday cage in a pinch?
Probably so
No. The seal let's RF through. I was able to easily Bluetooth to the thermometer inside.
What are the outside dimensions of this unit?
Answered in the video...
Can the freezer hold a bag of ice? I just want to throw a bag of ice in there and have a scoop.
Yes
yes certainly
As I referred to the little red book by the Chinese Savior I saw no mention of where the APL was made. Do you know HOBO ?
Says on their site. Made in China with an Austrian conpressor.
@@HOBOTECH Thanks HOBOTECH. You make watching UA-cam worthwhile. Stay safe my brother. Godspeed.

And WAY heavier!
Its not even availible. *THUMBS DOWN* Dometic 35 looks better anyways.
The link was wrong. I fixed it.
You really think this looks good😂
