Hi Klaire! Great video. Just few tips: Silver naturally oxidizes with time, and if you want to bring back the light color, a simple remedy would be to put your silver into a bowl with aluminum foil in it, then pour salted hot water and let it sit for few minutes. It will get rid of the oxidation without scratching the metal or the stone! To make it shine even more, simply rub your silver with a cotton tissue (source: I am a silversmith 👍🏻)

Maybe do a comparison with just polishing with water, because it could've simply been the toothbrush that cleaned it!

Wood ash will also make lye. Then you can use it on drains, to set dyes in fabric, or to make soap.

The tiny bits in your Amber ring, the black part is called antiquing. You dont want to wash that off, it can come off on some cleaning products but not sure with using ash. Toothpaste cleans sterling silver very well too.

In my experience, the best way to clean silver is to make a paste of salt, baking soda and water. Then you rub the silver ornament with it using your fingers, I find brushes can scratch the metal, due to the coarse salt grain of course. Jewellery polish irritates my skin, but this paste doesn't.

I am an old subscriber I have have to say I absolutely love your videos and the knowledge you share with us I have a trick for those that don’t have a stove (as I do) you can use instead either toothpaste or bicarbonate/ baking soda.

For those of you who don't have wood ash available and you're allergic to jewelry cleaners, or you just don't want to use that chemical, a baking soda/water paste works well too! That's what I use!

Did you buy that silver Amber sun ring from Poland? It's very common here, it's referred to as the baltic sun, and it goes back to the pagan traditions of worshipping the sun.

In an old blog post on her KlairedeLys website she posted links to some of her favorite rings, and the sun one was from Amazon. If I remember correctly Ian and Valeri Co. are one of the sellers.

You can also use wood ash to glaze ceramics, If you mix it 50/50 with clay powder and add water until it is a consistensy of a smoothie. Different types of wood make different colors.

The little grooves on the amber ring you said you couldn't get clean may have been intentionally blackened by whoever made it. There's this stuff you can put on a piece that will turn it black. You then polish the peice and the low areas stay black and "pop" the design in the metal.
