- Nvidia's GeForce GTX 1650, technically isn't on the list of VR supported GPU's, BUT... the GTX 1650 is currently one of the most widely used GPU's among gamers on Steam, with some 8 million people owning one. With the affordability of the Oculus (Meta) Quest 2 there are now more VR headsets in homes than ever before and one of the cool things about the Quest 2 is it can be connected to a PC via a Link cable (aka Quest Link) or even wirelessly via AirLink. I have to believe a significant number of Quest 2 owners out there have a PC with a GTX 1650 installed in it and are wondering if they can play PC VR games like Half Life Alyx, Lone Echo and others with their GTX 1650. In this video we explore the question, is PC VR gaming on the GTX 1650 is possible? Will it's 4GB of VRAM be a major limiting factor? Well buckle up. It's time to take a look and see.
Want more performance than the GTX 1650 can provide? Maybe the RX 6650XT is more your speed. Check it out in this video here - • RTX 3060 Performance f...

dont call my boy 1650 a potato
I use vr on my 1650 and it runs fine with alot of games. Gorilla tag for example runs at a smooth 120 fps at normal res. Boneworks with low-medium and vr perfomance toolkit runs perfectly fine/playable. If you have a 1650 and worried it wont run vr, dont worry it runs fine just dont do more demanding games.
I have a 1650 but my gorilla tag experience be lag every second and some times I can play without lag but mostly lag
@@shades1355 I had the same issue you need to use link cable and set oculus pc graphics to 90hz and 1.0 graphics :)
@@shades1355 it might be the ram, cpu
@@marioant25 ok i will try that thank you so much
@@marioant25 my friend also plays gorilla tag and he has a rtx 1650 can u do the same thing for that?
Not even a full second in and my gpu got roasted, toasted, packaged up, and posted. Good to know it can run the titles I actually want to play such as pavlov and assetto though. Excited to get my OC2!
Currently binge watching all your VR benchmark videos! You are the best VR benchmarker! I just upgraded from a 5800x to a 5800x3d for VR! have a 3060 ti, and just ordered 16gb more of RAM for 32gb lol
Edit: I noticed that you also upgraded from a 5800x to a 5800x3d recently. Since you benchmark a lot more than I do, how did you find the upgrade for VR?
Thank you for this amazing review ❤
Hey marak, great video again! i like this format for VR games because no one really does it, i had a question, when you change the resolution do you do that trough the oculus app or with steam? i'm getting my 3070 and replacing the 1660 Super soon and i can't wait to ramp up the resolution with the same settings you did in the 3060ti test video!
I do it in the Oculus app. Steam VR just follows along with whatever you have set in Oculus for the most part.
Congrats on the 3070, should be a nice improvement in visual quality for ya. Cheers.
@@Maraksot78I will give a look at the oculus settings once I got everything ready then, thanks for the reply buddy!
@@Maraksot78try an rx 550 for vr
great to see some lower end hardware being tested with your methods im sure this allows you to make videos at a faster rate due to the lower production cost
id love to see some older flagships get tested (maxwell, kelper 2nd gen)
The lower end stuff is definitely much more affordable than the high end. When I bought the 1650 I bought an RX580 at the same time and both of them together was still less than half the cost of the 4080. 😂 Also there's way more people that can afford the sub $300 GPU's so I feel it's worth reviewing some of them.
I don't know about Kepler, but I imagine a 980 would do ok in VR. The GTX 970 is on the level with a GTX 1060 and the RX580. I've been using the RX 580 the past few days and it performs ok. It's been a much better experience than the 1650 that's for sure.
@@Maraksot78 id like to see a gtx 780 ti and non doing some low spec benchin for old vr games and the gtx 1060 is actually faster than the normal 980
@@Maraksot78 that was my same reasoning when i suggested it
keep working on these videos man your underrated
Thank you. I appreciate that. 😀👍🏼
Can you do one of the 1650 Super, I have one that I got baked into a pc wondering if I should use it for my more demanding vr games like Pavlov and/or Superfly
Just use fsr at .50 resolution with vr performance kit and turn anti aliasing up a little and you get a huge fps boost
I got 2 Chooses. Should i Update my GTX 1660 to a RX 7600 or Should i get a Quest 2 VR headset? Both are same price for me in South Africa. Im Rocking a AMD Ryzen 5 5600g with 28GB Ram
I AM CUrrently rocking a 1650 gpu with a ryzen 5 3400 and a A230M-K Motherboard, looking to upgrade to a, Ryzen 5 5600x and a 3060 ti. my games looked always pixelated in the distance for games such as Onward with the 1650 do u think it will improve with these specs that i am upgrading too
I agree with the advice to go second hand for these prices, although I would also consider the 1660 Super, which is more easily available on the 2nd hand market where I live and is just a bit slower than a 1080, but much better than the 1650.
I found the 1660 Super to be fine for Half Life Alyx and barely good enough for Lone Echo, although not for flight simming. I didn't bother with the more demanding Lone Echo 2.
is a dell optiplex 7040 and a gtx 1650 go together well
@@7xyn Yes, that should work for less demanding VR games
I can run half life alyx on my quest 2 with a link cable pretty well (Low fidelity).
It never drops low enough to notice any difference when i play.
GTX 1650 OC
Ryzen 5 1500x
B450m-DS3H v2
250$ build in the end
it is by no means a potato mate
For vr it is
True, easily able to score 60+ constant fps in any game on 1080p low-mid, especially the ddr6 version
By standards from 10 years ago it's a great card.
Nowadays it's definitely showing its age, specially the non-supers.
For VR it is. The VRAM of the 1650 and 1660 makes it difficult to hit a playable FPS in VR.
My 7 year old PC with a GTX 970 plays a good few VR games at a held 60 with OK settings (B&S, VTOL) while streaming to the quest 2!
I play half life alyx on a 1650 4gb and it was actually pretty good! Lowest settings still looked amazing,
The only games I want to play on pc with this is contractors (to play halo vr) and half life alyx. Which is perfect until I get an upgrade cause my dream gpu is just a 2060 or a 6600XT
Just Get a 6650xt it's 300$ and is the equivalent of an rtx 2080
lol no
GTX 1650 does not suppot B-Frame HEVC enconding (just the latest version does), so I don't really know how you guys are doing it.
Im still contemplating about buyin meta quest 2 cuz mine currently is gtx 1680 and i ask some advices from my buddies and they said i should just wait till i upgrade mine into gtx 3060 and add more ram too, then i can play vr. T-T
I know this video is few months old but 1650 GDDR6 (Your model) is wild for being called a potato since GDDR6 1650 is faster than both OG 1650 GDDR5 & 970 which supports VR (for some reason)
But with GDDR6 it can be overclocked to quite very high compared to GDDR5 chips
Yep,1650 TI GDDR6 will run at over 2GHz in many cases no issues.
bro are u calling gtx 1650 a potato then what should gt 710 need to be called mash potato ??
more like a potato past its sell-by date.
What do you think about a Asus Tuf Gaming F17 i5 10300H, GTX 1650 Ti and ONLY 8GB of RAM, will I be able to play Half Life? Will the experience be ''ok''? I will play with a Meta Quest 3 and linked by wire, no air link. Please answer
Yes, it will be playable with low fidelity.
My pc runs it perfectly with a quest 2 link cable
I got ryzen 5 1500x at 3.8 GHZ
1650 OC
B450m DS3H v2
250$ pc + 250$ quest 2 and then a cheap monitor was such a great investment to get into VR
I stated in 2016 with an og vive and 1070 so yes im fairly certain it can run VR, in theory.
1070 is more powerful than 1650
you should try ut gpus on games like try couple of games on gtx 1650 cuz there is many ppl want to know how would it preforme
How were you able to get Resizable BAR enabled on a 1650 when as far as I was aware it only works on 30 and 40 series cards? I have an Asus ROG Crosshair VIII Hero mobo with a Ryzen 7 5800x and an RTX 2070 Super and it will not turn on. So are you sure it's on, or is there a work around I'm not aware of? Thx!
Thanks for the question. This is something I actually haven't looked in to very much. I had resizable BAR still enabled in my BIOS from previous GPU reviews (Intel A770 & RTX 4080) and just left it on. Thanks to your question I looked into it a little bit and it seems you can turn it on but it only benefits Intel Arc, RTX 3000 and higher and Radeon 6000 and higher.
@@Maraksot78 From what I've read, there is an easy way to get Re-BAR working on older AMD GPU's with a reg entry in windows and of course a board and CPU that supports it along with above 4k support turned on. The hard way involves BIOS modding your unsupported motherboard. Apparently people have managed to get Re-BAR on R9 290's working, but with only small improvements. RX 400 and 500 series cards are little more performant, but Vega and Radon VII show quite a bit of performance with it enabled. Might just be a good video idea if you happen to have any of those older GPU's kickin around! 😉
You've obviously looked into this much more in depth than I have. I just knew for the newer GPU's you want to have it enabled, and turned it on. 😅
Thanks for sharing the knowledge. I love learning new things like this. This might be a topic worth digging in to a bit more.
I have a ryzen 5 4600g, rx 5500 dt 8gb and 16 gb ddr4 ram. What are my chances for pc vr?
Keep uploading more vids sir
I plan to. Thanks for checking 'em out. I appreciate it.
its playable at the least. it can run some top end games at low settings.
Another great video! Like a lot of your benchmark content. Can you make a video using a RTX 3070?
Thanks for checking out the video. Happy to hear you're enjoying the content. I don't currently have plans to make a 3070 video but I can look into it.
Just FYI, I buy all the graphics cards I make these videos about. I don't have any sponsors giving them to me or anything like that, so as you can imagine making these videos is pretty expensive. So anyway I have to be pretty selective on which GPU's I buy, and right now I'm trying to save up for some of the new GPU's launching this year.
I ran VR on my gtx 1650 super for a while before getting a 1660 for free and upgrading to that
I think there something wrong with mine because when I play any VR game it only runs at like 10 to 15 fps. What makes me confused is that it worked fine before at like 50-70 fps. I have a GTX 1650 Ryzen 5 3600 8 GB of ram Oculus quest 2 with a link cable(3.0) (2.8 gb a second).
Quest 2 latest updates broke a lot of pcvr performance. everyone seems to be waiting for a fix, but Meta really doesn't care much for pc anymore
i have almost same pc as you but 16gb ram and im also have very bad perfomance in link, please tell me if you solved problem
i have been using a 1650 for years
its still holding up its a good graphics card for the price.if u have another graphics card that is a bit better use them together
I have a laptop with core i5, 16gb ram, gtx 1650, will it pull VR?
well, how does it go when you don't record? recording usually takes a toll on gpus
I used a Quest 2 for this video and currently use a Quest 3 so I record game play directly to the headset to avoid putting additional load on the GPU for that very reason.
@@Maraksot78 dang, alright
@@Maraksot78 next question, can the rtx 2050 run vr? it says its better then the 1650 but im not to sure if its better when it comes to vr
hey! my gaming laptop uses this GPU. its basically the only thing about the laptop i sort of wish was better (not complaining though.. it can run most triple-A games just fine). its great seeing it have decent results with so many VR games! this video was extremely helpful.
Thx for doing this i am buying a gaming pc gtx1650 and i was hoping if vr runs with it
Im having an issue when I play any game it only runs at like 10 fps. but what makes my confused is that it worked fine before at like 50-70 fps. So good luck and let me know how it runs.
