Common is a top tier, lyrically poetic, genius. His bars here, from his Like Water For Chocolate album, deserved a solid 5, but he gave them a 4.5. Even though they should be 5 bars, it’s rare on here for an MC to read their own rhymes and not give them a 5, when it’s clearly not deserved in most of those cases. The fact that he was so analytical with his own rhymes, shows yet again why he’s so respected in hip hop. I still remember the ‘98 Sprite: Voltron 5 Lions ad he did back in the days. Even in the short ad, he came equipped with bars.
