The Lord keeps making wintertime warmth for you and Rebekah; all you have to do is "operate" on it! I've said it before ... You guys must sleep very well at night.
I use mechanic’s gloves from Harbor Freight. The brand is Hardy extra large part number is 62432. I handle 14 cord of wood before I wore a hole in 1 glove and they only cost $ 6.00. I buy 5 pairs at a time.
I help my husband with this often. Note: if you place a wheel barrow off to the side of the splitting rig, she won't have to bend over and pick them up off the ground or she can roll it over to stack it.... just a thought :) Love the vid. Always stack ;)Thanks for sharing. God Bless.
My two cents, stacking your firewood gives you a better idea of how much firewood you have and how much firewood you are burning plus it just looks nice. There’s my two cents. Thanks for all the great UA-cam content. 🇺🇸
Hey Evan and Rebekah, you folks work so well together. I hope you can fill a tag this evening, you have been feeding them so don’t feel bad when they repay you 👍👍. Your firewood stack looks great and safer for you. Thanks for sharing with us.
You said it. The biggest reason i always stack it is, it buys you a lot of valuable space in your wood shed. The other reason is you can get more firewood in the shed by stacking rather than just chucking it in there. I like how your stack is turning out. Looks nice and neat.
Ive noticed a trend with you too and its cool Rebecca seems to like Ariat brand and you Evan seem to like Carhart just a little attention to detail yall have a great Christmas and new year
I was always told that stacked wood will dry easier with it stack. Second it takes up least amount of space in the storage area. Just look at the pile that’s thrown down to the right in your wood shed vs that you have stack. My 2 cents. Use to cut fire wood in my thirty’s it is a lot of work but those days and nights that is really cold make worth it. Enjoy your videos.
As some others have said, stack so you know how much you have so you can gauge when you have enough for whatever you use it for and also so you have room and organization when you bring in new firewood for seasoning while taking from the already seasoned stacks to use.
I think stacking the wood helps it dry better, looks better, lets you know exactly what you have, but I only stack it inside the basement. The rest sits out in the weather, uncovered, not stacked in a huge mountain and that's the way I've been doing it for 40 plus yrs and it burns fine. I just refuse to handle it more than I need to, JMO. I think whatever people like, is what they should do, that's all. Great video and thumbs up !
When piled air can flow around each stick of wood, when one pile not all the sticks get air. Plus it looks so much nicer. Firewood is measured in cords. A facecord is 16" wide x 4' high and 8' long. A bushcord is 4' wide x 4' high and 8' long. 🇨🇦
I'm ready to "pull the trigger" and buy the same splitter that you are using from Rural King. It looks like it does the job quite nicely. As far as stacking the wood, I think it helps with the drying process, especially the way you are stacking the ends. One thing that I try to do though is to put down a barrier between the ground and the wood to prevent bugs. In my case I use old pressure treated fence posts for the bottom layer. As far as gloves... well I don't really have a good solution for you. I have the same problem of wearing a pair out pretty quickly.
Stacking allows you to store more wood in less space. It allows for air flow, which prevents rot (and therefore loss), and you can easily determine how much wood you have at a quick glance.
You typically stack your wood rather than pile it so the wood in the middle of a pile doesn't get damp and mold, same reason to leave a little space between your rows. Use some oil on your leather gloves, it help harden them a bit and last a little longer in my experience
When ya stack the wood ot let's the air get all the way through it to help dry it out for burning ! Leaving it in a pile the inside of the pile doesn't dry and you end up trying to burn damp/wet wood.. Keep staking !
Air can reach all areas of stacked firewood. Air can't reach the center of piled firewood. Also Piled firewood takes up more room and you may have less than you think by not being able to judge how much you have but the air circulation is the main reason. If you ever want an alternative method of stacking "Outdoor with The Morgans" who have a firewood business use the frame of the water things, you know the square frames? Take out the water bladder, cut a section out of the front, it holds 1/3 of a cord. They stack and can move it around where they need it and even sell it . They get some sort of deal on these frames.
Not many people know this but back in the day gloves used to have 2 thumbs per glove so when one side wore out you just turned them around and wore out the other side I believe it was mostly for taking corn off the cob
hope you had good luck hunting. Every time I see you splitting wood I chuckle because I remember an earlier video showing your stacking, you said, it was a nice stack, you are no Mike Morgan but it was good. I watch their channel as well since I am from the same area. Mike Morgan would be proud of that stack!
One other thing is get some treated 4×4's and stack the wood on that to keep the wood off the ground !! Trust me on that ! Been cutting and splitting wood Sence i was 8 yrs old..
That is a lot of wood. Stacking is better for space management, but also it is easier to pick up when you're ready to build a fire, and there is less room for predator hibernation (snakes). If you have a smaller amount of wood it's also better for inventory, it's very hard to judge a cord of piled wood. Great job and Jessica way to go. Jimmy
I just buy the cheap harbor freight gloves. Now stack the other pile on top of the stacked one it looks better stacked and you can fit more wood in the shed great job you two
Stacking is a nice way to "clean as you go". In my experience a pile of wood doesn't take too many seasons to become buried in it's own debris. Unused logs remain buried and damp.
Gloves appear to be like anything that wears. I believe they call it Planned Obsolescence, so those that make them can stay in business. 😄 Just a thought.
I use pig skin gloves. coat wear points, lightly, with a URETHANE glue or construction adhesive. Not so much as to stiffen them up can be recoated as many time as you want but each coat must dry atleast 24hr keep a few pair in rotation
Hi when send it to me I thought it’s for sale anyway good job may god give everyone good hardworking Healthy and wealthy life except how works in bad way.
I buy the leather gloves,a 3 pack from Amazon, they do the same with me,fingers wear a hole,it just takes me longer cause I’m not cutting wood, workin on a tractor,I use the rubber throw always.
I put a 6x12 stand between the barn and the field at the end of a row of small trees. Perfect to walk to a stand after working . Can go sneak out there even with deer in the field. Also a good place for kids to hunt. Closer to where I work all the time the human smell doesn't effect them so much.
Stack your wood on pallets , then when you need it you can use your pallet forks on your tractor to take it to the house less handling , may have to use a few ratchet strap to help keep it from falling off !
Just thought about your garden area after watching you do the soil amendment, your big burn that you have, take over to your garden area and burn it there giving you lots of wood ash without you having to worry about ash dust ! 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
reasons we were told to stack.#1, save space. #2 better drying. #3 knowing how old your wood is. a pile will generally get stacked on over and over, and the bottom will rot. finally, to get us kids out of the adult conversation, but know where we were!
Thick leather gloves for splitting firewood. You dont need a lot of finger dexterity using a splitter, so use something that has better wear characteristics like thickness. Some leather gardening gloves with thick leather parts might be just right. Since they are not all leather the leather tends to be thicker.
You mention that you have a “day job”. What do you do? What brand of splitter do you have? Any problems with it? Great video series. Keep it up and stay warm. Seasons best to you and your wife.
I have work I industrial maintenance since I was 21 years old fixing equipment. More on the electrical side of things. I have a black diamond log splitter and it has been great.
An 2-3 feet extendable side platform would help you pile half split wood on the side and prevent it from falling over and easily split into smaller sizes. No?
Nice stacking job. Glad u got it done and ready for firewood at your fireplace. Oh last day of deer hunting umm. Mine in Texas starts at the first weekend of November till ends on first weekend of January with rifles. Only bow hunting in the month of October smile. Save me some deer sausage hehe lol
How about trying a pair of butcher gloves. I thing they have a metal mesh built into them. I see you have a pile of small limbs . I use my 12" radial cross cut saw to saw them up. I built a 20" stop on the saw and have a roller stand to set limb on while I saw them up. I have a yard trailer I throw the pieces in when I saw them. Those carbide blades cut fast. Works for me. Have a good day.
🤔Stacked wood is easier to measure. (?) It does look neater. It also appears to save space. I am sure it is good excersize and of course there always the possibility of using stacking wood as a form of discipline! 😃... ☮
As I was watching the video, near the end, where your wife was helping you, I was thinking it would have saved a lot of motion for her if you had an old table out there to put the newly split wood on instead of dropping it on the ground and her having to bend over and pick every piece up to then stack it. Working with firewood is repetitive and labor intensive. Anything you can do to reduce the amount of labor involved saves you time and strain on your muscles.
It does dry better stacked and it make better use of your covered space. Keep stacking! Question, I am in SE North Carolina. When I stack my wood the wood bores are tearing it up in less than month. Do you have any wood bore problems with your split wood?
Something about splitting and stacking wood. It does look better stacked. Splitting and stacking is hard on gloves if you find a pair that works let us know.
Less critters/snakes in a stack than a pile of wood, plus ventilation. Air flow dries more of the wood more evenly. In piles the surface wood dries more quickly than the buried due to lack of air exposure. I'm with you on the glove hunt. Carhartt's have lasted the longest for me, but still was only about a month... Happy searching, and merry Christmas.
When I split open one log, I found a snake skin on the inside in a hollow spot. Glad the snake had moved on and it was only his skin that was left behind.
The deer got a text that you guys were taking the day off from hunting and felt safe. The gloves probably more Chinese junk. Looks like that's all we can buy now days.
You stack to let it dry more. I think they don't make gloves to last. Try to keep you buying new. I used to split wood for elderly neighbors with wedge and sledge. A lot of wood. But kept her warm.
People that take pride in their work make it look good even if it doesn't matter. That's why we stack our firewood.
I help my husband with this often. Note: if you place a wheel barrow off to the side of the splitting rig, she won't have to bend over and pick them up off the ground or she can roll it over to stack it.... just a thought :) Love the vid. Always stack ;)Thanks for sharing. God Bless.
That’s what my wife and I do, actually we have two wheel barrows so while she’s stacking from one I’m filling the other.
You don't need music to this video. I'd watch this for hours. 😁
Well done both ,,PLEASE ,PLEASE , PLEASE keep vids coming, 😊
My two cents, stacking your firewood gives you a better idea of how much firewood you have and how much firewood you are burning plus it just looks nice. There’s my two cents. Thanks for all the great UA-cam content. 🇺🇸
I think it’s important to stack it. It looks neater and the wood will dry better, plus you will be able to better gauge how much wood you have
so much work,yet so rewarding!
It's always good to have some wood... 😉👍🏻
You sure are working that splitter for everything it’s got! Great video
Hey Evan and Rebekah, you folks work so well together. I hope you can fill a tag this evening, you have been feeding them so don’t feel bad when they repay you 👍👍. Your firewood stack looks great and safer for you. Thanks for sharing with us.
You two work so well together splitting and stacking that massive pile of wood.
You said it. The biggest reason i always stack it is, it buys you a lot of valuable space in your wood shed. The other reason is you can get more firewood in the shed by stacking rather than just chucking it in there. I like how your stack is turning out. Looks nice and neat.
I've had good luck with deer Hide from tractor supply.. enjoy your videos
I like your vid very much , greetings from Holland 👍
Ive noticed a trend with you too and its cool Rebecca seems to like Ariat brand and you Evan seem to like Carhart just a little attention to detail yall have a great Christmas and new year
The elusive pair of good gloves. Good luck finding them!
I was always told that stacked wood will dry easier with it stack. Second it takes up least amount of space in the storage area. You have a great little helpmate there buddy .. never take it for granted , either of you . Very lucky indeed !
I agree with the other folks your wood loks a lot better stacked, great job to the two of you.

That splitter made light work of all that wood. Good job, Guys.
As you said saving space room for more and then if you have a tree down due to bad weather ect it will not get wasted
👍 You certainly saved your back extra stress by processing this way.
Yeah, after a year of splitting my hand, a log splitter is a back saver.
Hi Evan
You
need one of the 4 Way splitting Wedges available to get more done faster
When piled air can flow around each stick of wood, when one pile not all the sticks get air. Plus it looks so much nicer. Firewood is measured in cords. A facecord is 16" wide x 4' high and 8' long. A bushcord is 4' wide x 4' high and 8' long. 🇨🇦
Must have been a honeydo project cause the boss came out to supervise and help.
Burning firewood is very efficient, warms you when you cut and split it, then again when you burn it!
I'm ready to "pull the trigger" and buy the same splitter that you are using from Rural King. It looks like it does the job quite nicely.

Looks like y'all got enough wood to last the season looks awesome

I like how you two do all the work on your place and don't hire it out.
Deer skin driver is the name of the glove that I love. Get the size bigger than you think. You can get them on amazon.
Air can reach all areas of stacked firewood. Air can't reach the center of piled firewood. You need to build another tray for the splitter on the other side for the wood to lay on while you are splitting.
We have burned wood 100% since 1978. I always stack my wood and keep it covered. I try to keep 5-6 inches between each row.
Great editing skills.
Makes it easy to watch.
Evan is a man of MANY talents, that's for sure.
Fantastic job you 2. I know how hard that job is
thx again
Might want to keep an eye on the hydraulic filter to make sure it’s tighten
Another old one for me, now I wonder if you got a deer that night, lol Chestene. Love ya
Love the firewood passion. Check out Rocky Mountain Firewood for all things firewood! Thanks everyone keep on firewoodin'
Flash ahead 3 years and still waiting for the shed repair
hope you had good luck hunting. Every time I see you splitting wood I chuckle because I remember an earlier video showing your stacking, you said, it was a nice stack, you are no Mike Morgan but it was good. I watch their channel as well since I am from the same area. Mike Morgan would be proud of that stack!
Like this show keep it up
It deff looks much better stacked. I wouldn’t be surprised if there was other benefits as well. Prob better airflow or something.
If you leave it piled up even under a tarp or building it holds moisture in the middle but if you stack it the cracks will help it escape
One other thing is get some treated 4×4's and stack the wood on that to keep the wood off the ground !! Trust me on that ! Been cutting and splitting wood Sence i was 8 yrs old..
Carolina glove company. I use them in the oil and gas industry. They usually last me 6months a pair. Keep up the good work!

Awesome about the deer hunting, Good Luck
The air gets to the wood better if you stack it. Piled, the center of the pile takes a lot longer to dry.

Stacking the wood allows for air flow to get to all the pieces of wood, which will help the drying process. Have a good day and merry CHRISTmas
you two work so good together. I was wondering if you will be using the older drier wood on the back row first ?
Yes we will, but ends up being harder to get to. May need to stack differently next year.
Stack your wood on pallets , then when you need it you can use your pallet forks on your tractor to take it to the house less handling , may have to use a few ratchet strap to help keep it from falling off !
Great idea!
Great idea I use a wheelbarrow every single time rain or snow night or day lol
Improves the airflow, too.
You could make some walls to help protect machine and keep wood dry .
I think that splitting woods is a highly focused activity
Just thought about your garden area after watching you do the soil amendment, your big burn that you have, take over to your garden area and burn it there giving you lots of wood ash without you having to worry about ash dust ! 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧

I have work I industrial maintenance since I was 21 years old fixing equipment. More on the electrical side of things. I have a black diamond log splitter and it has been great.
Country View Acres thanks for the info. I am in So. California. I grew up in Northern Minnesota so rural and country living are in my soul.
Gloves cost $5 here in Australia. , just buy 10 pair at a time.
Cheap as chips to save your hands
Evan, larger pieces will burn slower for that all night heat
Iam usin the Mechanix genuine Leather ones ...little expensive but pays to get some of the ...last forever if maintained with some good Leather oil!
my, my, evan, you're gonna earn your keep today. try welders gloves. i am glad to be here to watch......g
Great video... hate to say it but I gave up on the gloves. Hands hurt the first day or two but not so bad after that
IT SHOULD be stacked. its neat, organized, safe to approach/ use/ grab wood. less chance of critters/ snakes
Good morning! 🌞
An 2-3 feet extendable side platform would help you pile half split wood on the side and prevent it from falling over and easily split into smaller sizes. No?

Our firearm season is over. We can still archery hunt till january. But I doubt I will hunt anymore this year.
If you stack the rows at 90 degrees will you be able to have a better flow of taking the dry wood and then replacing it with fresh split wood?
I have a pr of pig skin gloves that are years old and well abused that are still like new.
Stacking wood, keeps it dry, airflow less rot
Did you get your deer Evan? Nice job on the wood. Tell Rebecca i said hi.....i was falling asleep when i wrote that mess..
I didnt get a deer, but Rebekah provided for us this year.
Thx

I really like your videos !! To bad you don't have a double blade ram it would save you time and money ☺☺
Love smelling split firewood. Next time your son is home have him do nothing but split firewood. Lol stacked firewood dries faster. Maybe lol
I agree, something primal about the smell of firewood.
As I was watching the video, near the end, where your wife was helping you, I was thinking it would have saved a lot of motion for her if you had an old table out there to put the newly split wood on instead of dropping it on the ground and her having to bend over and pick every piece up to then stack it. Benz1659 last thing anyone wants is to run into a snake

Pig skin gloves are tough. Not super comfortable, but plenty tough.
The deer got a text that you guys were taking the day off from hunting and felt safe. The gloves probably more Chinese junk. Looks like that's all we can buy now days.
Yeah, I think the deer heard the log splitter and knew it was safe to come out. Just our luck.
I didn't even break a sweat
Roper gloves last an entire hay season with small square bales
You stack to let it dry more. I think they don't make gloves to last. Try to keep you buying new. I used to split wood for elderly neighbors with wedge and sledge. A lot of wood. But kept her warm.
