I tried the leave in and custard together. I agree the leave in is good. I found when applying the custard after the leave in, I got this very “squeaky” feeling while applying almost as if the two products don’t work well together. This may be similar to the flash drying you felt you got. I think the two products are best used separately-in other words I think the custard works well with leave ins or creams from other brands. I’ve tried the custard with other brands and it worked better. Still not sure it’s a holy grail for me but definitely got better results that way.
I almost never use a styling product on its own. Given the nature of textured hair is to air on the dryer side, I will almost always at least use some sort of leave in conditioner.
Ewww....i HATE that plastic/flash dry feeling! I'm not very prone to it - only have had 2 routines do it to me, and one was just last week with jessicurl products, which bummed me out. Plastic is the perfect way to describe it, and my hair will dry in the EXACT shape it's in the moment it turns plastic. Normally my hair will shrink up and get spirals, but not if there's a flash dry. It literally will look the same dry as it did wet. The absolute WORST
❤️ your video! I agree I like the kinky curly leave in however the kinky curling custard did not work for my fine curls. I tried using both several times but the custard just doesn’t work for me. I ❤️ NYM curl talk line: shampoo, conditioner, curl cream and hard fold gel, I don’t like the mousse. Please do a review ion NYM curl talk line.
I highly reccomend trying the custard with the curl cream from cake. You'll like it better because the cream gets rid of that product feel once the cast is gone.
We have very similar hair. It did not work well for me either, but my results were different. It gave my hair a weird, fake looking shine. Idk how else to explain it. It didn't give me flash drying, but products high in aloe over moisturize my hair. So it was just not a good fit for my hair needs.
Same- I have 3a/3b and I love the kinky curly leave in, so I thought the gel would be amazing. Nope- it has that nasty shiny feeling and I immediately washed my hair and used Rizos products.
Never tried the custard - my hair never does well with thicker gels, ever. I have used the conditioner, and I'm OK with it. I used to use that to detangle my wet hair in the shower, before shampooing. I was struggling with a LOT of hair fall & shedding, and it helped a little if I detangled with a light conditioner with a good slip before washing. I no longer need to do that before I shampoo, so I rarely use it now. It has good slip, but I personally don't get any other benefit from it, & it performs poorly under other products for me personally. But massive tangles? That it can handle
yea i've found ways to incorporate the leave in but i think maybe my hair doesn't like the marshmallow extract in it. I'm gonna keep experimenting to see if i can make it work but it might just not be the line for me & my hair 😕
It just hit me after your intro explanation. I never understood what the deal was with clarifying shampoo. I usually use shampoos that are very moisturizing (Aussie). But I recently bought Kinky Curly clarifying shampoo. Night & day-those two shampoos. I was a bit worried. Although it clarified well, I didn’t like how stripped my hair felt & could not justify using it every other day or daily. But what you said helped! Co wash! Co wash! Co wash! 🥰 I think I’ll clarify once a week & co-wash during other days. I wash my hair frequently. That’s just how my curls are-they don’t mind. So co wash makes sense❤ TYSM

Hmm interesting but good to know I’m not the only one!
What would it be like on its own?

I’ve been wanting to a NYM review for a while so I’ll make sure to tackle that soon!

I’ve heard such great things about Cake! I really need to do a review on them
@@EssentiallyErynne their mousse is a meh it only holds for like two days. But I swear by their curl cream!
Oh interest bc I know a lot of people LOVE their mousse!
@@EssentiallyErynne I have too much hair for it lol. I love it until day 3 when it starts to fail.
@@EssentiallyErynne Cake mousse is bomb.

Love the Rizos products!
@@EssentiallyErynne Yess--They're great. My hair wasn't clumping and curling much, the Rizos line seriously transformed my hair.

Good to know, thanks!
The leave in is great, it always has been great. There used to be a shampoo and that was AWFUL.

Knot today leave in is just the best, it goes well with like every gel I've ever tried. The custard is ok, but not my fave.
I haven’t tried it with any others yet but it worked well on its own.
Did u find any better leave in / detangler than the knot today one??? I cant decide which one will be the best for my wavy high porosity hair.
