Getting a work permit to work legally in Thailand isn't easy. I have a lot of friends that teach English online. I have also met a French and Spanish teacher here. I also have met a lot of people that work at call centers of one sort or another. A call center may not be a great job in your home country but if you only do it part-time and you live here on a foreign salary, then it's not so bad. There are also possibilities like teaching yoga or leading specialty workshops but this requires a work permit. In the future, we will be putting out some videos that specifically address this question.
I think that the limited job opportunities is a downside to living in Thailand for expats unfortunately. I work in IT in my home country but would probably have to teach English if I move to Thailand. Out of interest, your friends who teach English online, do they have a work permit or are they taking a risk and doing it on a tourist visa?
rgrtnyjjc, Many start on the tourist visa and are nomadic and move on after a short time. Several that have decided to stay here got the work permit and pay the small amount of tax on their income. I think I will try to do a video on this in the future. I have talked to people here that do IT phone support and like what they do.
Living Overseas TV thanks for the reply. I asked because I have been thinking about the various options personally, due to considering living in Thailand myself. If you could let me know more about the telephone IT support jobs you’ve heard about I would really appreciate it. By the way great time lapse shots of BKK, I’ll be sure to check out more of your videos.
May I ask what country you are from? I know one of my friends was working for Xfinity and I think the other was working for Verizon business support. Both U.S. companies. I think it's easiest to get a job in your own country, that allows you to work from home. I met some guys that sell insurance. They just help people fill out online forms and get paid $20 USD per hour.
I remember when I visited Thailand I fell in love with Bankok! I don't know why I had impression it is really cheap to leave there, I went 10 years ago. It seems more expensive that I could have ever imagined!
Andrea Medin Inflation and Economy growth stagnation in western countries and in contrast booming market in all Asia does explain your surprise. But it still is cheap especially when comparing cost of living to other Asian countries like Hong Kong, Singapore or Tokyo who are almost equal or partially more expensive than New York in terms of living cost. Notice that Thailand is still a third world country hence the low cost of living
It seems cheap probably because of the exchange rate. Thailand was dirt cheap for foreigners during Asian financial crisis in 1997 when Thailand was the first to collapse Thai Baht went down from 25฿/USD to 55฿/USD and it remained cheap for many many years during recovery. Nowaday, Thai Baht get very strong because of massive trade surplus, booming tourism, and huge foreign exchange reserves. Now it's 33฿/USD.
i live in NYC and i got offered a job from my company to work in Bangkok on a project until 2028... i can live like a KING off 105,000 a year!!! im considering the offer
@Geno Bobino don't listen to Non , $105,000 a year is excisive for Thailand. I lived well with a $30,000 a year salary so yours will get you a really amazing condo and a nice beach house. I'm going back there next month (I work for a video game company and do my job remotely) Have fun and stay safe!
Well. finally a UA-camr that has real and true information. I suggest meals are a little more than the video suggests, but not much more. After many years living in Bangkok, Seoul, Singapore and Manila, I chose Bangkok for retirement.
I lived in Bangkok 1987-1989. Taught English and had a great time. Been back many times. Loved your video, so beautifully done and now that I am retired am contemplating a return on a more permanent basis. I'll always remember the street food, so delicious and the sense of freedom I had back then. I'm 64 and having raised a family in San Diego, I'm ready to go back. Just have to invest a few dollars to spruce up my condo in Coronado and I'm set. Your colorful video is giving me itchy feet. Only one problem, my Burmese wife and I have a home in Rangoon and she wants me to go there. I haven't looked into the long term visa requirements for Myanmar but I'm guessing that it is not so easy as Thailand. Thailand retirement visa just requires you to have either about $25,000 in a Thai bank account or proof of about $2,000 in monthly income. Just have to get that bathroom remodeled and I'm on the road again. Thanks
James, thanks for the nice response. I'm currently on the retirement visa and I'm renting out my place in Colorado. Hopefully, you will be on the road again soon. I would love to know more about Rangoon. I will be making more videos about places in SE Asia in the future.
I thought you might be from the states or Canada. My wife is originally from Rangoon Burma and we built a house on the outskirts of the city. Compared to Coronado where I live it was relatively inexpensive at around $220,000. Five bedrooms and three baths on two levels. The exterior is quite modern and concrete with the interior done in a more traditional Burmese style with lots of native teak. It's a radical comparison to what you can buy in California or probably Colorado for the cost of construction and furnishing. It's so much more laid back in Burma than here in San Diego or Thailand for that matter. However, having lived in Bangkok for several years, I really do enjoy the cosmopolitan feel of the big city. There is no comparison in cuisine however and hands down Thai is my favorite. I like living in both places really but of course my wife prefers her own country. Unlike Thailand where the retirement visa is fairly cut and dry, the Myanmar visa situation is a bit more complex. It's the kind of situation where if you know the right people things can happen. If I rent my beach condo in Coronado, it's pretty much smooth sailing no matter where I dock the boat.
You mustn't miss the opportunity to go to Burma. I have my wife's family there and they can help show you the ins and outs of how to get the most out of it. Myanmar is changing as the rest of the world but it is still in a different realm compared to other South East Asian countries. The people are where the difference is most evident, especially when you veer off the beaten path. Some of my most enjoyable sojourns have been to the far north around the Myitkyina area and the Mrauk U temples. A journey up the Kaladan River from Sittwe to Mrauk U is a must do.
Thank you, I was adopted from Bangkok by Swedish parents, when I was six weeks old and having a swimming pool and gym in the flat complex, is even luxurious for me
i really like how informative your videos are! Bangkok has been one of my top destinations to go to so this video just made me want to go there asap. thanks for sharing!
Best looking tube on Bangkok, I've seen. Great information! My cousin and family just moved there in September. I'm going to stay in multiple cities in Thailand next year. Thanks.
I have been to Bkk many times, and I agree with everything you said. I was surprised after the first time there, just how much I liked Bkk. I'm just waiting for my pension and then I'm going back.
I love it there very beautiful city and beautiful foods very fresh healthy fruits thank you for sharing your beautiful video love it very friendly as well thanks.
Although I'm not looking to spend an extended time in Thailand, I am actually planning a visit over next January. Glad to have ran across this video as it's good to know how much food and drinks cost. You captured some amazing night time footage btw!
Your happiness depends on how much money in your pocket. Bangkok is the great city that combine all in one. Good residence, modern life, lovely people, high income, multiculturalism, interesting delicious food and travel hub. But for 2-3 years you should prevent to go by taxi or car because now its having mrt & sky train construction throughout the city.
Outstanding vid! Costs have gone up. There are lots of real estate sites and also craigslist, so do your homework before counting on finding hot deals. Also, use numbeo to cost compare. 9apartment for cheap rentals, you can search 'near bts/mrt'. Thailand has some of the toughest visa requirements in SE Asia.
I lived in Thailand for 3 years. Bkk is one of my favourite cities in the world but I don't think I could ever really live there. Really helpful video though.
I'm not really a city person. I like visiting big cities but choose to live closer to nature. I may put together a pros and cons video and I'm curious why you would never live in Bkk?
i have question for you ,,, thinking about moving to Thailand from USA , is it possible to find work there i realize probably low pay, not yet ready to retire yet
Love this video beautiful and very well put together too, I am in love with Bangkok very historical and how faith is different but interesting to see. One night in Bangkok song famous for 80s, but goes with scenes.
Thanks for sharing the info I learned a lot. Had someone come to my class and share some of this info for missions work to this area. Looks like little money can go a long way
Those timelapses at the start are amazing! Did you have a long exposure on them in order to get the blurred headlamp effect? Bangkok looks like a crazy city! I really would love to visit.
Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment. I will have a video coming out about Indonesia soon. I love the food and friendly people in Indonesia too.
Yes, that is correct Lexi. There are also many expats in the Phuket area and they are scattered all over the islands. The island I am living on now is probably half expats from all over the world living here and even more visiting during high season.
I love. Bangkok being there more then once love the shopping and fruits the sweeter pineapple in the. World wish my. Husband here to go with me. I.m lost with out him he is very good husband the best God be with him. Thank you for sharing 16-1-19
if you have to choose one place between Thailand, Bali or Philippine, which one you will pick for retirement place, and explain why. I really want to know because I plan to retire in 4 years. Live in CA now, but amazed to your informative videos, thank you.
Allan Luminta, Great question. There are things I like and dislike about each place. It also depends on if you prefer city living or a more natural area. I am living on Koh Phangan in Thailand now and I love it. It has amazing nature, beaches and many international people that make their home here. There are many great restaurants and it is very affordable. It offers a lot for such a small island. Medical care is not great on the small islands here. Serious issues may require a trip to Bangkok. The retirement visa in Thailand is very easy and cheap. I love Bali too and may be going back there next. Bali reminds me of the Southern California of Asia. It has been influenced by Australian tourism and surf culture for many years. I love to surf so Bali and the Philippines both win over Thailand when it comes to waves. Food in Bali is also very good. I have only spent 6 weeks in the Philippines but I will be going back for an extended trip within the next year. It is very easy to connect with the locals in the Philippines. For me, this is one of the best things. Many people speak English and it’s very easy to make local friends. Also, Filipinos are the most like westerners culturally. This often makes it easier to connect. If you like adventure and want a place on the beach, maybe the Philippines is right for you but it’s more primitive living if you are outside of a large city. I prefer the food in Thailand and Bali. I would recommend making an exploratory trip spending 3 months in each country. It’s very easy to do. This will also let you know if living in a different culture is right for you, before making any deep commitment. We will have more videos about each place in the future.
Not expensive for foreigners but for thai people that's crazy expensive. There are so many cities out there that are more affordable (for foreigners and their residents)... Belgrade for example. Minimum salary is higher and all costs are cheaper then in Bangkok(if you compare same quality of service). City is so much cleaner than Bangkok and whole city is evenly developed
Great question. I will be making a video specifically about healthcare in Thailand. In general, the healthcare system has many options and is very good. Pharmacists are well trained and can give you medications without a Doctor’s visit which is nice. Like anywhere, the price of insurance varies a lot depending on your age and health record as well as deductibles. If you are under 65 and in good health, you can get decent insurance for $100 USD per month. Many of my friends skip insurance and just pay out of pocket since the full price is usually less than what you would pay as your deductible in the the USA. I hope this helps give you a quick idea. There are online insurance brokers that can give you quotes.
Thank you. Good info. really apreciate these infos, well proposed. Simply please switch to the Euro, the new world currency what is on the way to replace the dollar. Also if possible infos in french, german or italian would be convinient - just a plus.
Well done presentation. I wish the narrator would have touched upon the very short visa period. It's my understanding that Thailand is welcoming but it's not so easy to secure residency.
I will be doing a complete video on visas in the future. The visa situation varies a lot depending on where you are from and your purpose for being in the country. For example, a retirement visa is fairly easy and affordable. Educational visas are fairly easy also. Thanks for watching and taking the time to leave a comment.
Sprawling urban Asya metropolis. My US buddy asked if my Thai wife's eyes were bugeyed w/ amazement when she saw a bif US city. LOL Americans have bo idea. My buddy's wife got to the US and asked where all the technology was...
Very informative. Thanks for the video. I am in the process of creating my first official youtube video that would help Filipinos in Thailand or OFW in general.
Prices in Bangkok have gone up substantially. The thai baht is very strong and getting stronger. Farangs often get charged more than locals. You will often see signs with one price (lower) in thai and the farang price in english is much higher. Full disclosure.
Good question John, I'm going to do a whole video soon about how to get a good deal on an apartment. Short term, do a Google search for "serviced apartments Bangkok" You can also post and look for monthly rentals on Facebook nomad and expat groups. A serviced apartment will be much cheaper than a hotel but more than what you will pay for a year lease. They often have maid service and may charge for electricity. You can also ask hotels for a month discount. I have had them offer me a month for half price. You may need to talk with the owner or manager to get a discount. It's also harder to get a good deal in a high demand area so you are more likely to get a month discount a few stops out on the Skytrain. Good luck with your search.
Yr future video shu converts all costs or payments into thai bahts...not usd dollars for the viewers to do their calculation in tbeir own countries currency. Thanks. A liked for your hard work.
Your video has such a great editing and the script is flawless. The images featured really captured the spirit of Bangkok. 300 is really affortable given that Bangkok has way too many visitors. Bangkok is not so expensive because Thai people are not as opportunistic as other Asian countries.
Bradley, Great question. I will be making a video specifically about healthcare in Thailand. In general, the healthcare system has many options and is very good. Makes me want to go to Bangkok, but more expensive then I would have guessed for comfortable living, but lots is included. Food prices though, wow cheap. No mall for me, just markets please :-)
Evelyne at CulturEatz, surprisingly, many of the malls have an indoor market with good food just like the street food only with AC and of course, they have the chain restaurants too.
Half the year, it's not too bad. The other half, I agree with you. I will be talking about that when we make our pros and cons video. Thanks for watching.
hassan al-sumairy, Thanks for watching and taking. The apartment I rented is not available at this time. The best way to find a good deal is to stay in a hotel for a few days in the area you like and search locally. You can get a much better deal then you will get booking online.
I would check out some of the Facebook groups. That is where I usually find the best deals. Join the most popular groups for apartment rentals and you will get a good idea of the costs. I often get a deal by going to the neighborhood that I want to stay in and asking around at the large apartment buildings. Good luck.
Quick question: I am a online entrepreneur (sell stuff online) and am thinking of moving to Bangkok for about a year. Do I need to get a work visa to come over if I want to continue running my business in Thailand? I do not plan on holding any inventory in Thailand and will only be running the business through my computer. I make an excess of a few million dollars a year and am worried that this can be an issue if I come on a regular tourist visa.
The quick answer is Yes. My recommendation is to come for a visit on a tourist visa to make sure Thailand is right for you, then if you like it go for a Non-Immigrant Visa. Check with the Royal Thai Embassy from your home country for specific details. Here is a link to some options: www.thaiembassy.org/london/en/services/7742/84508-Non-Immigrant-visas.html
I appreciate this from you. Can you tell me about jobs I can work living there please write back ❤️
Getting a work permit to work legally in Thailand isn't easy.

Andrea Medin well come again..other place in Thailand not bad also..
I don't think Thailand is a third world country unlike Laos,Cambodia,Vietnam or Myanmar Thailand are developing country.
This is super helpful for everyone! Bangkok is truly amazing!

Yes, that is correct Lexi. There are also many expats in the Phuket area and they are scattered all over the islands. The island I am living on now is probably half expats from all over the world living here and even more visiting during high season.
place actually looks amazing
Bangkok has grown on me after spending some time there. Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment.

if you have to choose one place between Thailand, Bali or Philippine, which one you will pick for retirement place, and explain why. I really want to know because I plan to retire in 4 years. Live in CA now, but amazed to your informative videos, thank you.
Allan Luminta,
Great question.
Great video, hope u do more about others information as which area to live suit for foreigner with difference price range, Thanks

Good video.
I noticed there was no mention of healthcare or related insurance costs.
Any insights...?
Great question. I will be making a video specifically about
healthcare in Thailand. In general, the healthcare system has many options and is very
good. Pharmacists are well trained and can give you medications without a Doctor’s
visit which is nice. Like anywhere, the price of insurance varies a lot
depending on your age and health record as well as deductibles. If you are
under 65 and in good health, you can get decent insurance for $100 USD per
month. Many of my friends skip insurance and just pay out of pocket since the
full price is usually less than what you would pay as your deductible in the
the USA. I hope this helps give you a quick idea. There are online insurance brokers that can give you quotes.

Glad you found it helpful Andrew. We have some more informative videos coming out soon.
@@LivingOverseasTV Excellent, looking forward to watching.
Best wishes from me here in the UK
Well done presentation. I wish the narrator would have touched upon the very short visa period. It's my understanding that Thailand is welcoming but it's not so easy to secure residency.
I will be doing a complete video on visas in the future. The visa situation varies a lot depending on where you are from and your purpose for being in the country. For example, a retirement visa is fairly easy and affordable. Educational visas are fairly easy also. Thanks for watching and taking the time to leave a comment.

Do you have any housing websites you recommend?
Sorry, I don't. I usually book a few days online in the area I want to stay and then look for a good deal when I get there.
You can try this website "www.renthub.in.th/en"

Thanks for the comment. We have a video about Chiang Mai also. I agree it's about 30 percent cheaper.
Very informative. Thanks for the video. I am in the process of creating my first official youtube video that would help Filipinos in Thailand or OFW in general.
Good luck with your channel. It sounds like a great idea. I'm going to be moving to the Philippines soon.

This video is useful for those who want to live there

Where to go to find appartement ?
Great video!!!
Thank you.
Prices in Bangkok have gone up substantially. The thai baht is very strong and getting stronger. Farangs often get charged more than locals. You will often see signs with one price (lower) in thai and the farang price in english is much higher. Full disclosure.
Thanks for sharing the information. I will try to make an updated video soon.
Good introduction!
Thanks for watching.
Most of condos are for one year contract. How to find decent but cheap one for short term rent like a month?
Try airbnb there are many rooms and in the good location

Thanks for watching and taking the time to leave a comment. Chiang Mai is very nice and more affordable.
Your video has such a great editing and the script is flawless. The images featured really captured the spirit of Bangkok. 300 is really affortable given that Bangkok has way too many visitors. Bangkok is not so expensive because Thai people are not as opportunistic as other Asian countries.

Health care quality and insurance cost for expats?
Bradley, Great question. I will be making a video specifically about

Look like beautiful city, to me,
Parts are very beautiful and some parts are not. I have highlighted some of the places that I enjoyed.
Healthcare costs?
I will be putting out a complete video about healthcare costs and insurance in Thailand in the future. Thanks for watching.
It’s just too hot there our visit a couple times no way I could live there because of the heat and humidity
Half the year, it's not too bad. The other half, I agree with you. I will be talking about that when we make our pros and cons video. Thanks for watching.
regarding the Basic Studio apartment can you provide me the location , would like to visit bangkok
hassan al-sumairy, Thanks for watching and taking. The apartment I rented is not available at this time. The best way to find a good deal is to stay in a hotel for a few days in the area you like and search locally. You can get a much better deal then you will get booking online.
What do you think is the best website for renting apartment in Bangkok ?
I would check out some of the Facebook groups. That is where I usually find the best deals. Join the most popular groups for apartment rentals and you will get a good idea of the costs. I often get a deal by going to the neighborhood that I want to stay in and asking around at the large apartment buildings. Good luck.
Quick question:
I am a online entrepreneur (sell stuff online) and am thinking of moving to Bangkok for about a year.
Living Overseas TV thank you very much for that!
