There is the opening of Carnival , before Jouvert , it is called The Kambolaye, . this was based on a riot with the slave and slave owners , there is also Stick fighting Competition ,
@@nichollabrathwaite-mundy5126 So what takes place on the Piccadilly greens , around the bridge every Carnival Friday around 4 am in the morning ?isn't it about the Kambolye riots ?
What i know about the Emancipation riots, was the riots took place in Port of Spain , where a lot of buildings were burnt down , and the slaves confronted the the Colonial forces , whereby a lot of the slaves were unlived , a majority were buried in a massive hole refer to as a grave an buried , in All Stars Pan Yard ,that is why every Emancipation night around 12 a ritual is performed by the Orishas. in the said pan yard.
I believe your grandparents where brought up with the traditional meaning of carnival. Carnival is an abbreviation of 'Carnevale" which is an italian word which literally means remove meat. Carnevale is a christian festival. During the carnival period people go all out and drink/dance and enjoy before lent which is the period of abstination starting Ash Wednesday.
Love your reactions to our Trinidad and Tobago carnival 2024. Check out our indian singers like Raymond Ramnarine, Anil Bheem (deceased) but an awesome singer , Ravi b, Nisha b and much more
Carnival is an african word adopted to latin and is an african practice adopted by catholics so when slaves came they were familiar with the word already
