Carne asada fries are not on the menu at most Mexican sit down restaurants. However, they are generally an item on the menu of just about every Mexican taco shop in the county (which seem to be on every other corner here, lol). Unfortunately, they are not all made equally, some are better than others, just like any eating/dining out experience.
They are super easy to make at home. Just need a few ingredients, Chopped flank steak, french fries, cheese (cotija/queso fresco, a crumbly cheese similar to Feta), guacamole (if you like it), salsa of choice (preferable not out of a bottle), pico de gallo or salsa fresca are great & easy to make or they can be found in most refrigerated sections of supermarkets.
You can probably request this at any Mexican restaurant that has french fries on the menu. Just ask then to dump a bunch of fries on a plate (or a platter-appetizer/starter for the table) and layer on the other ingredients which all Mexican restaurants have. Google image a pic if they are not familiar with the item. Most Mexican places from my experience will make you what you want if they have the ingredients. These are all standard ingredients except the fries.
Do yourself a favor a Google image carne asada fries recipe, select the images that look best to you and make it at home. Carne asada nachos (tortilla chips instead of fries) are my favorite though. Delish!!

Plus the culture is really diverse simply by nature of all the people mushing together. But the thing is-- everyone who lives here _loves_ SD, plain and simple, and I feel like through the years the city has been shifted and changed and crafted to reflect that love.

This is true, but the fear comes from a number of reasons. 1. no rain causes oil and automobile fluids to build up on the road, and the first rain causes the roads to become an ice rink 2. A lot of people here do not regularly change their wiper blades or tires because of the lack of rain, when rains happen, they are screwed 3. poor draining /low lying areas cause substantial water build up not only on roads but sections of freeway as well

I had to watch this because I am from San Diego, I was curious to see what you had to say. You made some great points. I work in hospitality and I wish more people watched this before they visit. Most people don't expect to pay for parking at most places so when they arrive they're shocked and upset that we charge for it but it's everywhere out here.
On the few times it does rain during the year we're all outside memorized by it because it is a rare to see it, except this year, we seen more rain this year then the past 10 years.
I very much agree with your statement about LA vs San Diego, we're definitely much different when it comes to things to do, the people you meet, etc. I moved from LA to San Diego because I noticed San Diego was much classier than LA, much cleaner and much more mature.

I live in San Diego and have to disagree with one point. When it rains, people don't say "oh no, this is horrible, etc", instead, they will go outside and start dancing in the rain. I remember the first time it rained in the winter after some 300+ days of sun, and legit almost my whole class ran out of the classroom and started goofing around, spinning in circles, etc. It's quite a big deal, especially in a particularly dry year. (around two years ago it only rained twice during the winter, I was very sad...) When you see it's raining, it's something to run and tell your friends about, and then excitedly crowd around a window to verify, at least in my high school. But yeah when driving San Diegans do tend to treat rain like the end of the world, haha.

I was visiting San Diego, driving on the freeway, when it started to rain. I've never seen every other car slow to 25mph...because of rain. Where I live, we call the oily rain "first rain" and stick to the speed limit, it's perfectly safe. We just limit changing lanes and other activities that increase accident risk unless necessary. 25 is overkill and honestly less safe than slowing down a bit and paying attention. I saw so many drivers hitting (smashing) parked cars in the middle of sunny days that it's a running joke I my family. I love San Diego, but if I move there, I'm installing steel bumpers and 24 hour dash and rear cams on my car.

On average the city sees less than 30 days of rain a year. Therefore the climatization of the locals are surely different from other regions which might be more humid, or wetter, or colder.
It is a desert in disguise, as is all of Coastal Southern California due to the vast aqueduct systems which provide the waters (primarily from the Colorado River (and to a lesser extent Northern California, Sierra Nevadas, and desalinated sources)) which support the millions who live there

I've lived in San Diego for 21 years, and here's my input on the 2 hour traffic.
He is correct, we do have a lot of traffic, but in my experience, it makes a 20 minute trip into an hour long one at most. Not two hours lol :0
The best times to actually drive around in San Diego on the 15, 163 or 78 are after 9 AM -3 PM and after 6-8 PM.
Overall, great video, and I recognized all the locations you put up in your video! :D

Same with the 5 & 805. South Bay to Mission Valley rush hour traffic is approx 45-mins to an hour most days. Mission Valley home clears up long before 8pm from my experience.

Glad he didn't mention the hands down best town in San Diego, which I will refrain from naming because its the best kept secret. Lived in San Diego county my entire life and didn't find this place til I was in my twenties. Now that I live in this town I'm never leaving. If ya know ya know.

Great video! San Diego is my home and I absolutely love it. 12:07 to answer your question. SD is a very active community because of the great all around year weather. I've lived in several cities and SD is by far the most active (cycling, hiking, surfing, etc). There are a lot of healthy market and restaurants in SD as well but if you're on vacation, I don't think eating healthy is on the agenda lol.

I really appreciate this "Don't" series of videos, it's the type of video that I like to make and love to watch because it's so rare in the travel side of UA-cam to find people that give you information on the "negative" aspects of travel. Also, I LOVE San Diego. I have family that lives in Ramona and my grandparents lived in San Diego before they retired, so I've gone a few times throughout my life and have seen it change over the years. Amazing city.

The points can be useful but there is no difference between the do and don't videos. He should just make one video about a place.

I took a three-day trip to SD with family and spent 2 of them in Balboa Park- definitely not a city you can speed through. It’s a beautiful place, if you’re there, slow down and enjoy it! :)

From a San Diego Resident to those who want to visit San Diego but want to avoid/know the rush hour:
    Freeway 5 and 15
    -South are around 3-6 PM.
-North around early mornings around 6-9 AM.
Trust me if you want to visit and get stuck in the freeway, its a living nightmare. However, it's only on weekdays, weekends aren't much of a hassle.

Wow! I watch you for all my trips, so glad you came to my city! There is so much to do, like you mentioned, and so much more! Come back during Oktoberfest to east county or go on a hike in Torrey Pines! Loved that you mentioned the craft beer industry too. Best in the world!
