The problem is that noisy big brother just north called Los Angeles that never shuts up. San Diego is like the mild-mannered star athlete that just lets his/her performance do all the talking.

We moved out of SD 5 years ago and I still miss it till this day but we actually lived the SD lifestyle and took advantage of everything around us. I lived the So Cal dream on a daily basis and never took it for granted. Traveled all week long, restaurants galore, hiked every other day, beach everyday, deep sea fishing every week...ahhh I miss it so much. Take advantage of your surroundings because you are paying for it anyways. You are doing it wrong if you ain't taking advantage of whats around you. Might as well move out to save your cash.

As a San Diego native you did a good combo of touristy stuff/hidden spots. I would definitely recommend going to Encinitas beaches, Del Mar beaches, meditation gardens in encinitas, San Diego botanical gardens, it I think you were going for a more central downtown area as those are slightly more north but definitely worth the drive if you are staying downtown. Great job!

Obviously, you can't possibly list every single great spot in a city but this is a pretty great list and it is perfect for someone who is coming here for a week. Depending on the season, the Del Mar races or the county fair are pretty solid too. And the San Diego Zoo Safari Park (WAP to locals) is phenomenal for animal lovers.

One area of San Diego that we often visit is Ocean Beach. This is a vintage beachtown that hasn't been gentrified - yet. Much of the main street is as was in the 1970's when I visited San Diego before I moved here. Interesting shops and good restaurants, the pier with a restaurant to relax and get a bite to eat and enjoy the wonderful view, a walk along the beach including Dog Beach and the tidepools to explore. It has it all with an eclectic vibe.

Awesome video about the city I live in!
The following are my recommendations on how to do the most in a single day when you are on foot or only have a single day with a car.
I highly recommend the orange trolley tour to hit the majority of those hot spots while getting a pretty cool history lesson. Its the best way to see/walk to everything on this list with the exception of Liberty Station, Cabrillo National Park, the beaches, and North Park. The tour brings you to old town, balboa park, the gas lamp district, sea port villiage, and coronado.
On a budget? You can do the gas lamp, maritime museum, midway museum, seaport villiage, and coronado (via the ferry located between midway and maritime) all in one day on foot. Take orange street on foot to take in all the shops and restaurants on your way to Hotel Del Coronado (about a mile long walk one way). Definitely party in the gas lamp at one of the two roof top bars mentioned in his video. Top of the Mariott is a younger crowd, top of the Hyatt is usually a more mature crowd. Everything down fourth and fifth street is pretty wild. The shout house has dueling pianos and is a good spot for 21+, middle aged, or older crowds.
Balboa Park is an insane day trip if you want to take in the museums and zoo. Wear a comfortable closed toed shoe as you can easily trek 5+ miles depending on how much of the zoo and museums you take in. I highly recommend the Prado @ the house of hospitality in balboa park for a drink or a meal. Try to sit on the patio.
Careful with ride share apps and enterance to Cabrillo National park, there is a small fee to drive into the park and nothing is a short walk. I recommend knocking Torrey Pines, La Jolla, Pacific Beach (emerald pier), sunset cliffs, Cabrillo and finish with dinner @ liberty station (in that exact order) on a day you have a rental car. If you are into photography, then you need to do more research as each of these sites are hot spots for epic shots, so you'll have to plan for best light. Liberty Station should be reserved as a food destination. If you are into craft beer there are more than three highly recommended craft brewery/restaurants in liberty station on top of additional themed restaurants like the covette diner/slatter's 5050/marketplace.
North Park is a very trendy area. If you want to have a safe, awesome Saturday night; I recommend dinner and ice cream Saturday night that rolls into partying @ West Coast Tavern/Pink Bar/True North (all in North Park) with a Sunday brunch at the Mission in North Park. The bars close at 2a.m. so book something local to pull off Sunday Brunch in North Park... if you're downtown, vice in North Park, try to get to the hillcrest area for brunch ('hash house a go-go' is a favorite)
Our four drinking/night life areas in San Diego are Pacific Beach (garnet street), Gas Lamp District (4th/5th Streets), North Park (University Ave) and we have a gay district called Hillcrest.
Hope you enjoy San Diego as much as I do. Dont forget our two amusement parks (Sea World and Lego Land).

As a local in San Diego, the 'Chicken Pie Shop' in North Park is an institution! It may not be for everyone, but I go EVERY time I am back in town. I have been going there for 40 years, even back to it's original location on 5th Avenue in Hillcrest before they moved to North Park.

This is Lydia's hubby poaching on her account : I've lived in San Diego since 1953 and I found this video to be quite spot on. I'd would allow much more time to explore the Balboa Park / Zoo area - even to the point of checking into to one of the nearby hotels for a night or two. Also - take surfing lessons ! Surf shops all along the coast will "suit you up" if the water's cold , get you on the proper board , and provide you with a qualified instructor. They will also ensure that you don't go out into waves that are dangerous (I surfed for over 50 years - nothing but pure amazement !). A drive into the local mountains , stopping in Julian for FRESH apple pie and coffee (maybe a snowball fight !) is also a worthy day trip. Again , happy travels to you all and your loved ones - peace , and be safe.

Just an FYI, Tacos El Gordo has moved “around the corner”... they are directly across the street from the mall. The place is sooooo popular that they outgrow the establishment on
H Street and are now using the H St one as a pick up order establishment for online or call in orders. The Broadway one (the new location) now has more tables, larger parking lot and a slightly extended menu. They are still just as amazing and will still have to wait a long time for those adobada/al pastor tacos but still so very worth the wait. If you like Carne asada fries the ones there are amazing and super well served... the adobada ones are even better! 🤤🤤🤤🤤 Buen Provecho!

    Important points to add:
    - Convoy is super worth it especially for asian restaurants!!!!!
    - Ocean Beach especially on a Wednesday when the farmers market is happening. It feels like the physical manifestation of the California stereotype. There's also cool vintage shops and a super long pier.
    - Ken Cinema is a historic theatre that shows a lot of old movies and even does midnight showings every Saturday
    - La Jolla cove has the largest kelp bed in the world so snorkeling on days with good visibility is awesome
    - Garnet St. in pacific beach has a huge bar scene but also has cute restaurants and shopping
    - Hillcrest has really great vintage shops, and if you go anytime during pride month everywhere will be super festive
    - If you're into swap meets Kobey's swap meet on Saturdays and Sundays is super good. I always find cool stuff there.
    - UTC mall is super nice. It's gone through a lot of renovations the past few years and it has a great environment, plus great restaurants.
    - The tide pools around La Jolla cove are beautiful and super fun to explore! Great for kids too. Try to go during low tide though.

There's a park at the end of cesar Chavez St that had an amazing view of the bridge and breathtaking sunset. It's right behind the restaurant Depot store. Also Aztec dancers that practice at Chicano park every Monday and Wednesday from 6pm-8pm

Exactly my thoughts when he was talking about the taco shops--Los Cuatros Milpas. Ate there a couple times and enjoyed. Not many like it. My father ate there on the weekends when he commuted from Chula Vista to Long Beach in the late 30's, early 40's. A long history there and good food.

and don’t forget, chicano park (full of art and a community center for the latino community), ocean beach (a true hippie neighborhood), and water front park (basically a free water park!)
    but overall good job dude!
ps. lego land and sea world are always classics for amusement parks

Great to see so many San Diegans who also enjoy your videos. I agree with the group, you absolutely nailed this list. Even five years later it's 95% accurate and only missed being perfect because Urban Solace sadly closed. BUT Holsem makes great coffee right around the corner and Nomad donuts is the only spot in SD making legit Montreal-style bagels. I'd also add Convoy Street in Kearny Mesa as a stretch of places for a fantastic eating adventure. You can walk into nearly any Convoy diner or restaurant from Aero to Clairemont Mesa and not be disappointed.

Mission Beach is my favorite beach in the country! It's so laid back and fun at the same time. I used to spend many mornings running from Belmont Park to the Pacific Beach Pier and back to Mission Beach. I'm so glad I'm moving back to Diego next month!
