Some Guy: "I can't believe he could really pick that lock so quickly, let's make him do it on another, sight unseen!" LPL: *picks this one faster* Some Guy: *surprised pikachu face*
I mean, to be fair, to MANY people with pick kits trying to pick your lock, this lock will be unpickable. The magnet is a huge security feature that will keep out all but the most seasoned pickers, so I don't think the anonymous guy will really be happy with this video either... Since yeah, this lock is going to keep out most pickers even with the pins alone. If the lock wasn't "labeled" as similar to the other lock with a magnetic pin, it could change a 2 minute pick to a 30 min pick depending on how readily available your magnet collection is, and how fast you could figure out that it is a magnetic pin. So yeah, as he said before, it's a lock he would actually consider using despite the fact that it could be picked, because you'd be hard pressed to find a truly unpickable lock. But these are grandmaster lock pick champions making these videos, so watching them do it with ease is going to be misleading. It's like watching an experienced magician and watch them perform a sleight of hand trick knowing how it's done and going "Yeah that's a pretty easy trick" despite being widely incapable. I'm sure this locksmith is actually pretty decent at his job (if he's not a sales rep for that company or something) if he's standing behind this lock as it's pretty unlikely these will get picked.
@@SherrifOfNottingham yeah I tried lockpicking recently, and well mentally I knew that obviously it wouldn't be easy, the only real lockpicking I had seen was lpl so I was actually surprised at the challenge of it
Not sure why I find watching these videos so satisfying, given that it shows me how exposed $6000 touring bike is every time I leave it outside a supermarket.
Once again, the most challenging part of picking the lock is getting the lock out of it's packaging 🤣 Interesting lock none the less. Definitely 1 of the better ones I've seen on his channel so far.
@@custardavenger You say that as if everyone who watches these videos aren't also people who couldn't pick this lock despite LPL's videos. Lockpicking isn't easy.
I actually talked to a locksmith who thought his videos were fake. He said that "medeco locks are unpickable" same with abloy. but then again he was a locksmith of 30 years who didn't know what a serrated pin was.
After watching so many vid's its SUPER refreshing to just watch a video and not need to have my mouse ready and waiting for an ad-read I'm just going to skip through anyway.
As ever a slick super quick pick. However, it's clear that if you want to protect something from LPL don't bother locking it, just wrap it in packaging tape. It will take longer for him to get it open than picking the lock.
That's what I got out of it, too. One of the big points being emphasized by LPL's content is that no system is unbeatable, and the constant lesson being taught here is that some lock companies sell products on the false assumption that they are. At best you should consider your investment a deterrent in that the time necessary for most novices to get through your security measures may make it too risky to steal your valuables in the first place, not that your valuables are safe forever. Feeling like that is an easy way to be complacent about your personal security for your belongings enough that you don't check on their safety often, which increases the chances that they can be compromised and stolen in the first place.
The other thing LPL hinted at but suggested is that atmospheric conditions can also cause different scenarios for lock difficulty. LPL needs to be given credit where credit is due. No two locks are the same, so no two locks will respond the same if picked.
That package could have been wrapped by my stepmother, love her dearly but Christmas is always something special when it comes to unwrapping her gifts.
IMO any lock that requires you to have a tiny rare-earth magnet on hand in order to pick is basically unpickable. Theres no way this will be picked “in the wild” unless the picker has had the opportunity to case the situation, leave, and come back with a specific tool set.
@@MrHinchapelotas that's not what he's saying. He's referring to the difference in tolerances, machining, bitting and stuff like that. He's talking about one person picking 2 identical locks one after the other. One might take 30 seconds, the other might take 5mins. Not 2 people and 2 locks or whatever you're thinking
It's the classic running from a tiger metaphor, you don't need to be the fastest, just don't be the slowest person in the group. Same with locks. Doesn't need to be unpickable, just better than the guy beside you.
Something to consider. Picking a lock on your workbench with the ability to hold the lock comfortably in the perfect position to use your tools is definitely not the same as picking a lock that’s in place on a door or something similar where the lock could be protected by a metal shroud limiting its range of movement and accessibility for the tools. Also getting a little magnet in there when the lock is unable to move would be extremely difficult especially if you had to work from underneath looking up into the key way. I highly doubt anyone is calling a locksmith to pick a lock that’s in their shop on a workbench.
Having red marker was brilliant, it rubbed off on your hands to show that the packaging was not tampered with. This way no one can accuse LPL of opening the package before or cutting it open, then reselling it.
Been watching you for like 3 years and only just realised that i never subscribed🤣. Also you convinced me to pick uo lock picking as a hobby. It looks sattisfying
What about any other object that touches? If it comes off on his hands then it would come off on other things as well. Check your extreme sensitivity at the door of UA-cam... it will not serve you well here. And rubber gloves? Seriously? To open a package? Your commentary only makes sense in a world ravaged by a pandemic, not in any normal world where people formed their habits (like opening packages with your bare hands). If that's an acceptable form of packaging marking to you I feel great pity for anyone you mail things to.
@@TheActionBastard comments getting deleted I see. Its pretty obvious the marker was permanent as any other would have smudged in the previous handling and would negate the function as security scribble. The intelligent thing to do is NOT make assumptions as to the quality of the ink and to allow for the fact skin oils will make any type of marker bleed to some degree.
@@DavidKirwanirl Well, if you want something to move, you use WD-40. if you want them to stop moving, you use Duct tape. Doesn't get more simple than that... And if it doesn't work, you're not using enough

The moment he said "...and my hands are turning red. Next time, please use a permanent marker" it became obvious that he was going to have malice behind his lockpicking skills this time
@fuck google pretty sure that's why the "anonymous benefactor" didn't use permanent marker. So that if the package was tampered with in transit, LPL would know because of smears on the package.
After watching too many of these videos, I've determined that half a roll of duct tape and some zip ties offer more theft resistance than any lock in production.
I mean, your right. Any lock exists as a deterrent, and there are far more secure ways to ensure something never opens again, if that's what you want. A lock tells any would-be thief: "Hey, this isn't worth it if you don't have the key." Considering most thieves want to get something quickly and quietly (some important exceptions apply), you can simply add enough time sinks to prevent most theft. Mummifying something in packaging means you (the owner) don't have an easy bypass, but you also know everyone will have to spend the time to cut through your valuable's deterrent. It becomes a question of how valuable is the item or location versus how much time and resources are you willing to spend on making sure others can't get it?
Honestly I was shocked he never made it stick to anything other then what he intended I didn't think anyone else noticed how tiny and hard that would have been to do. I hate trying to work with magnets for that very reason because they always stick to something you dont intended even when being careful...

"One lock might take 30 seconds, another might take ten times that." So the range for LPL to open a lock he's never seen before is between 30 and 300 seconds. Good to know. Also very likely to be accurate.

@@klausbrinck2137lol idk why you are being so aggressive about it. You are entitled to think that those times are not very different certainly, but I would like to point out that the difference here isn’t about how long you have to wait for something, it’s how long a thief has to spend exposed picking your front door or the padlock on your storage unit where someone can try to stop them from getting in or raise the alarm. I would genuinely like to see LPL’s process when he sees a new lock if he hasn’t done it already: how he analyzes it, if he looks at the key before he picks, how he tells what special tools he’ll need if any, etc.

In all honesty this seems like a great lock that requires a very small magnet and a deep understanding of these locks most people won’t have
That's what I got out of it, too.
That's what he said in the original video 1184. He said that it even was a lock that he would consider using =]
It took him 60s to open the package and 57s to pick the lock. Looks like we found LPL's arch-enemy, it's duct tape!
“One might take 30 seconds and the other might take 10 times that” So... 5 minutes, That’s still better than any of us could do
Why do I call both of that simply "under 5 minutes" ???
I wish we could have a live reaction of the locksmith who sent the lock's face.
Bet he's just awestruck.
You are a master of opening tough steel locks 👍...yet you have to learn a lot about opening tape and paper packages 😂
I expected him to say "that's an impossible question to answer because I have seen every lock ever invented."😅
The other thing LPL hinted at but suggested is that atmospheric conditions can also cause different scenarios for lock difficulty. LPL needs to be given credit where credit is due. No two locks are the same, so no two locks will respond the same if picked.
Lol i was thinkimg the same thing. Made me laugh.

As an automotive tech I have no idea how many times I’ve wrapped a co workers tools in woven zip ties and tape scored and counter wrapped.
IMO any lock that requires you to have a tiny rare-earth magnet on hand in order to pick is basically unpickable. Theres no way this will be picked “in the wild” unless the picker has had the opportunity to case the situation, leave, and come back with a specific tool set.
"Given two identical tooking locks one might take 30 seconds and the other one ten times that"
Such an ace humble brag.

It's the classic running from a tiger metaphor, you don't need to be the fastest, just don't be the slowest person in the group. Same with locks. Doesn't need to be unpickable, just better than the guy beside you.
"YOU ARE UNDER ARREST!" - "NICE CLICK FROM THE HANDCUFFS...."
Took longer to open the package then to pick it 🤣🤣🤣 well done sir 🤘🤘🤘
Having red marker was brilliant, it rubbed off on your hands to show that the packaging was not tampered with. This way no one can accuse LPL of opening the package before or cutting it open, then reselling it.

A lock tells any would-be thief: "Hey, this isn't worth it if you don't have the key."
Considering most thieves want to get something quickly and quietly (some important exceptions apply), you can simply add enough time sinks to prevent most theft. Mummifying something in packaging means you (the owner) don't have an easy bypass, but you also know everyone will have to spend the time to cut through your valuable's deterrent. It becomes a question of how valuable is the item or location versus how much time and resources are you willing to spend on making sure others can't get it?
