WTW they put a 600 yard range in at my club last year, there are a couple of us crazy people shooting the 17hmr out to 600. I found the cci 20gr fmj shoot better than any of the 17gr bullets for past 300. I have been using a Savage 93 BVSS and a Ruger precision in 17hmr. Lots of fun and a but load of drop.
That sounds like a pain in the ass but a hell of a lot of fun.
@Chris Deaven Yes, your looking at almost 390 inches of drop, and with zero wind you get about 7 inches of spin drift.
Sounds fun
My Savage 17 likes the 17gr TNT HP of all the 17 grainers. Finally found some 20gr HPs I want to try. I have a feeling those will be better than the 17gr but not had a chance to try them out, but I am sighted in with the TNT. I was a bit disappointed to see Savage rimfires are made in Canada instead of the US. Maybe gonna try the S&W 10MM after they get settled in here in E TN and I know the new employees have developed some skills. It's bitter sweet to see a gun manufacturer move because I know they are gonna lose skilled labor making good money as opposed to moving down here in the south where Union seems to be a bad word and they will pay people half what they were up north. I hope they bring their most skilled people with them in the Performance Center and Quality Control too. I don't want Smith and Wesson turning into Marlin after Remington bought them. Anyone know of Ruger has relaunched Marlin yet or are they still setting things up, retooling, etc?
@@user-bn3zo3mh5v I didn't know the Savage rimfires were made in Canada. When did they start that? Mine is pre-accutrigger and I know I have had it for a long time now, like right after the 17HMR came out. -.- . ....- --- --- ---
I have a 17 HMR and I also have a Ruger 10/22 that's converted over to 17 Mach 2 they both shoot great
Great video Adam. I'm a huge fan of the 17HMr. I've owned a CZ 453 nickel varmint now in 17HMR for ten years. I've had the action bedded/barrel floated and the trigger worked. At 100 yards on a still day it will put five shots inside an inch easily. What I love the most about this set up is that all I have to do is hold dead on out to 100 yards. The POI is the same at 50 yards as it is at 100 yards. I just use it for fox whistling and for this range it's perfect. Thanks again for sharing!
That 17HMR is a lot of fun. When my boys were little, this is the caliber that got them excited about shooting. Great caliber.
Interesting idea for a test, cheapest vs most expensive ammo test for whatever calibre is available over there?
Been thinking about buying a 17 hmr. Still on the fence.....great video these bullet drop videos are very educational.
Get it. You won't be disappointed. Tac drivers!
But drop off is significant after 200 yards.
It’s a great round for squirrels and rabbits, you can also take coyotes with it but it becomes a game of shot placement when taking coyotes
Well you twisted my arm guess I better get one.
@@ryanpfeiffer7429 you'll not be disappointed.. tightest groups I've experience out to 200 yards. And I've got a Stoger air Rifle scope on mine,, put it on just to try it out until I could get a proper scope.. left it on because it worked so well.
Hey there who tee who this is gonna be a really fun video watch the 17hmr bullet drop
Thank you so much. I love the 17Hmr round. i have a savage model 93 and a Henry chambered in 17Hmr.
I use a 17HMR for Rabbiting here in the UK, I find it's really good for super flat shooting out to 150 yards, which is exactly what you're looking for when shooting small critters, there's other calibres better for those super long range shots, albeit I've seen people shoot out to the sub sonic range accurately though, 280 yard Rabbits are a possibility if you're good to go with solid drop and wind data..
Love my 17 sweet little caliber and it works great on wood chucks! Great video WTW
shot a crow few months ago with my 17hmr. 250 yards held about 10 inches over. first shot kept him from flying. second shot anchored him. They are sweet to shoot and a whole lotta fun.
Thank you for this video. I have a new 17 that has never been fired. Didn't know what its capabilities were for sure. Now I know. Very helpful information.
Have one in Ruger m77, Stirling targetmaster scope, hornady 17gr hp getting inch groups at a 100yds. Absolutely love it
Great rifles. I have a m77 in 22 lr
Another great video; nothing is as convincing as actual testing. Most of the 17 HMR 17g loads with polymer tips have published G1 BC values in the range of 0.125 to 0.128, which is similar as what you found. This load goes subsonic at just beyond 260 yards, and given such a light bullet, I would expect accuracy to drop off at around that range. Also, energy is down to less than 50 foot-pounds beyond 250 yards.
Nice video. My CZ452 is in retirement sincee l finally got a tack driving 17WSM. Savage with a fluted barrel is impressive.
Please more 17 hmr videos. Also I have shot alot of 17 and 20 grain. Just found out that Hornady makes 15.5 grain. Would love to see a good comparison of the three weights of bullets 😊
Love 17hmr. Just ordered a barrel for my cz, also have a savage in 17. Lots of fun!!
Rim fire at it's best! The .22 WMR is sweet, but the velocity makes all the difference with the .17 HuMmeR
As far as bullet drop, I'm always dropping bullet's on the ground. I hope the new Marlin make's a lot of their previous line. As far as the 17hmr, it maybe my favorite. They are tack driver's out of my Henry 17hmr express. The CEO of Ruger a couple of week's ago said the first new Marlin's should be coming out at the end of December. I always wanted their 45-70 CB cowboy it hold's 9+1 I believe, and that's a lot of butt kicking power. I don't know how practical it is, but lot's of fun. It might be great for wild boar in Texas. Ruger Rich
45-70 ammo was expensive($50 -20 rounds)pre cover...haven't seen it since.
Have a cz 455 in .17hmr. Love it. Crows hate it.
I have a Savage bolt gun in 17HMR and It can put every bullet in a ragged hole at 25 yards . At 50 yards it is still a half MOA gun with every type of bullet . At 100 yards the energy it delivers and the groups it creates indicates that 17HMR is at it's limits for varmint shooting effectiveness . Holdover isn't really the issue with this cartrige , as it's low BC means that it is very succeptable to wind drift . 17 HMR can be very accurate in still wind conditions , but winds of any velocity are it's nemesis .
Good stuff Adam, I’ve been trying to shoot some crazy long distances, 600 yards, with my 17 hmr, but to be honest haven’t had even one single hit,
but I haven’t been holding over enough either, probably the most I’ve held over is maybe 25 feet, and I thought I was holding too high. Next time I’ll try holding 30 feet or maybe a little more .
I did zero my 17 at 150, because it kinda worked out better with the hash marks in my scope, and my 200 yard groups are very good, all in all it’s a fun little gun to play with, ammunition has been plentiful during this plandemic, and it’s cheep to shoot
👍🏻👍🏻.
Nice to see bullets flinging downrange no matter what caliber!🇺🇸✝🇺🇸
17 HMR Rocks. I have 3. Thanks for an informative video. God bless America.
Hope you do one on .22wmr, its hard finding good info on the 22mag and I love that round out of my heavy barreled Savage 93 and especially out of my River single six.
Coming soon
Tape a ruler or yard stick to the 200 yard target so we can see *how much drop* .
I usually sight in 1" high at 100yds. Typically cuts the drop at 200 in half.
👍🙂 they are wind sensitive at range 🤷♂️
but less so than a .22 or .22mag
@@huntarama9375
No way. 22wmr with heavier bullet not affected by wind like 17hmr. Look it up.
You look rock solid on the bench. I have the same rifle and I think it shoots a little better than the one you have.
Interesting how the group opened up at 200 yards.
I always heard 17hmr just explodes on impact... Would like to see u attempt to catch one still intact
If they hit bone at closer than 300 yards they disintegrate and cause massive internal damage. Kinda like a frangible does. That's Speed! Lol
They do, also turn blue jays inside out in a puff of feathers
Man these rifles are so damn fun. Got one on my 10th birthday the day they came out and we still have it and enjoy it. For a small round it is a bad mofo. Kind of want a 17WSM but the ammo are just insanely uncommon. Badass but sometimes us common folk gotta factor in what it costs to shoot them. 17WSM is definitely going to be superior to 17HMR but it isn’t better enough to justify scrounging for ammo that is going to be super expensive
Looking forward to 556 and 6.5 CM and 308. Well I’m just looking forward to all of them lol
You got that right brother..🌍😎🎵💯🆒🐕🎸
Those rounds look so freakin cool!!!
I want one!
You should try this with a .300 win mag and also try for groups at 200. Would be cool to see
I enjoy the .22lr .17hmr and .17wsm! Awesome video!
If you haven’t done 22 magnum I would like to see how it compares to the 17 hmr bullet drop.
Another great video. Keep em coming
my first gun is a savage 93r17 f 17hmr and I'm glad I got that instead of 22lr, it's been doing pretty good I want to take a bobcat or fox with it but for now I have taken a couple of starlings and counting
I own a 17WSM. IN a SAVAGE model. It can really zing em out there. It shoots pretty flat but the wind can really carry them away . However the 25 grain ones seems just a tad better at longer distance. I did try at 400 at a 8 inch steel for fun, it will certainly do it. But with substantial holdover.
17 HMR is an inside 150 yd small game gun. Love mine. Shoot it more than all others combined. On last box I FINALLY found ammo!!!! Academy.
Norma needs to make you their US spokesperson and advertising icon.
Love my T1x in 17hmr with the atn night sight! Great plinker out to 300yds and good for varmint/rabbit hunting especially for sight picture retention
17HMR , good information. Thanks Adam
Congratulations on the Buck WTW 🦌👍💯🇺🇲
1 of my favorite calipers
Have a Badger .17 and a Tikka .17 and that`s what I grab when I need to drive a tack.
Liked it I was at one time thinking of getting a 17HMR but haven't for a little bit more precise readings on drop set your yard incrum at 25yds. And out to say 300yds. And I'm still waiting for the 45-70 blu-llet drop video with a scope 45-70 rifle
22lr is the smallest I play with, but you sure impressed me with 17HMR. Guess I'm still a little old school. I DIDN'T EVEN THINK IT WOULD REACH 200 YRDS! Lol. I may look at these a little harder someday soon. Thanks for the video and info.
You don't have to look too far. Look on the box of ammo. It's velocity over mass.
@@fishinfool247 mine too.. it's fricking Amazing!
17 so accurate you could hit a 22lr at 100y ???try hitting 17 round at 100y with a 22lr????
You always make really fun videos
Interesting! Thanks WTW!
Cool video!
Love the 17 hmr fun plinking rifle.
Thanks for the video and information. Good series
Thanks for watching Dwayne!
Ótimo conteúdo sobre o .17 HMR👍
I'm waiting for your Ruger American 308 bullet drop!! Yey
Coming soon
@@WHOTEEWHO you are one of my very favourite channels mate! God Bless You !
🙏🙏🙏 appreciate you watching
Now I want to see the 22mag in the same test! 😜
I hope one day I can come up there and meet you and Randle
could you do the 30-30 bullet drop between the hornaday levereverlution vs remington or winchester?
Found the video. Didn’t realize I wasn’t subscribed, just did👍
Thanks for watching!
Love my Savage 17HMR for chipmunks at around 90 yards, using an 8 point 3-9 scope (obviously set at 9)
Thanks for the video Mr. Who.
Check out Russ Reed he has set a lot of world records with the 17 hmr.
Lots of 1-1/2” groups at 450 yards and hit a milk jug at 1,000 yards.
Mom said “It ain’t bragging if it’s true.”
i have the same gun and the Hornadays vmax loads shoots really good out of mine.
Yes I am a fan of the 17 hmr I have two of the and I like them both
Good infomation , thank you
I bought a Tikka TX1 a few months ago. I mounted a Leupold VX Freedom 3x9 rimfire on it. I have some A17 ammo that’s 2650. It only has a 16in barrel because the muzzle is threaded. I suppose because a suppressor would make it overly long. I hope it shoots good!
Great video and I would love to see more videos about this in the future wtw
Finally the video I requested ! Thanks bro
Thanks for watching!
If you haven't already, please do 300 Blackout! I keep hearing it can reach 600 yards reliability from one side, and the other says its worthless past 100 yards. Love what you are doing here!
Soon
Yes it can hit well past 100 yards however the energy drops pretty hard at longer ranges especially when using subs
Nice scope WTW! Great info keep em coming!
Never seen or shot 17 hmr , like like a fun one tho. Congrats on your crossbow hunt !
Wow that’s still pretty flat. I have a marlin mn 25 love it good shooting.
Just for curiosity how about running off a chart as usual with 0 wind speed & 0 elevation Then run one off for your elevation apx. 1,000 ft and 10 mph wind to show the difference. Barometric pressure added may complicate it. Thanks
Man I dont even have a 17hmr but my rural a while back had the vmax on sale for like 9$ a box. Couldn't help but grab a few hundred for that price. Want to say they're sitting at around 15 16 a box now
Love these videos!
Most of my rifles are sighted in about 1 1/2” high at 100. Pretty much point and shoot out to 250-350 yards depending on cartridge. HMR I don’t know probably 150 or so I’m guessing
Please do more rimfire videos especially 17hmr, 22mag and 17wsm
I just had a thought, it sometimes takes a while. Anywho, in high school, I was on the rifle team and we had to wear these big ol leather jackets and shot really heavy pellet guns. I wished we could have used the .17. It would have been a perfect rifle.
Good video. Love the hmr but It would be nice to some 17WSM content.
Hi from France, interesting video . As I can see, your zeroing is at 91 meters and there is a fall of more than 20 cms at 180 meters with the 17 grs . I think it's as useful as a 22lr to own one .
Thanks for the video and the info.
Greetings from Brazil! Thanks for the video! I have a 17 hmr also. 🇧🇷 We pay more than 1 dolar for each ammunition... very very expensive
I just got to watch it
Love these videos 👍👍
I love 17hmr. Never shot it past 100yrds. I shoot a Savage a17
Never even looked at 17hmr before. Had no idea they had a muzzle speed that fast. I’m waiting on a similar video for .223. Hopefully you can get your hands on a bolt action rather than your AR.
Good video. could you possibly do a video on the 300 blackout for bullet drop
Super fun cartridge to sling.
Love the video. Thanks
Need to get up on that 17 super mag
Shoot just go to the 17 hornet
@@darienfoster5544 naw, I like the rimfire aspect.
Wsm little more stank on it but I've yet to see one as accurate as the hmr????
Huh that's weird I can't complain about mine. I'd take my bmag over an hmr all day every day. And your the only person I have ever heard say that
@@matthewkyle6939 need a vid of some groups ?impress me enough to buy one?
I tried 17HMR for work, found its too fast and the bullet too light. Plus the crack even with a moderator is LOUD. Had the bullet go straight through rabbits at 75 yards and they run off or to earth. Will stick with subsonic Norma and a weighty bullet in 22lr...plus they are cheaper 😁
Love my 17 hmr! Really good for raccoons and ground hogs.
Another awesome vid buddy
🙏🙏🙏
Awesome stuff! 👌
I don't only one yet but notice how I said yet haha. Definitely on my list
Thanks for the video! I love the .17 HMR. I'm surprised that the velocity dies this quickly. I thought it would hold velocity a little further.
I've seen people shooting rabbits to about 250 yards with the .17 HMR. They must really know how to estimate bullet drop.
Well good thing about 17hmr is that up to 250 yard it is very predictable where that shot is going to land but after that it will drop very fast as you can see from that chart. One helping tool is to use Hawke scope what have holdover points in reticle meaned fro 17hmr bullet. I have tested those up to 250 meters and i can confirm it is pretty much spot on. Dial that zoom to 10x and those marks will be matching for meters(in 4-12x40 version of scope). Will hit half liter soda for that distance but you must somehow estimate windrift.
How about the 17mark2 .. love the HHR also. 👍👍
Hey mate , really enjoy your videos, watch them all, but may I suggest you start shouting some better targets with inch grids on them? Even cheap ones printed on paper, would give us a much better perspective each time!
I hope you do a drop video on 300 win mag
Did you correct your zero after the 100 yard group?
No
Cool information, as usual. 👍
🙏🙏🙏
If possible test .17 HMR with rifles of different barrel lengths, who knows...
Maybe barrel length of your rifle is too long that gas from powder no longer manages to accelerate the bullet and friction with barrel and rifling slows down the bullet.
