What Merced actually said was that "this specific suit is for this specific timeline in the story." Meaning in the story of this film, not this point in the overall DCU timeline. I wouldn't be surprised if they ditch the LordTech suits by the film's end. I think that's why she keeps gassing up the helmet specifically because it's the only part of the costume that's sticking around.
I want to point out the Engineer here. The look they have is a combination of the old chrome look and the look she have in the newer "The Wild storm " imprint (by Warren Ellis and Jon Davis-Hunt) from 2017. There she walks around in normal clothes untill a predator looking ironman suit seeps out of her pores. It looks rather cool. Could be a good way for them to not constantly have her in CGI but looking more civilian untill she needs to fight.

for the engineer i agree they definitely using cgi over her suit especially when she is doing her abilities. I feel they are saving hawkgirls and guy gardners comic accurate suits till the end of the film as a little last piece. But if they stick to what they have now under lord tech, its fine, i still necessarily do not like the suits and it will definitely be divided amongst the fans.
