My dude Martijn not only keeps winning by getting his chickens back, but then he enlists a wood elf to teach him the ways of the forest and give him a +3.bonus to farming. Best UA-cam content ever.
I think we’ve seen Martijn show he really cares for them ( built a beautiful condo chicken coop(that other chickens 🐓 would envy) and that they’re around him a lot( at the outdoor kitchen and so forth.
Okay, be honest folks - who else was playing match-maker in their minds while watching this...? lol. Really interesting episode with a huge dose of suspense/relief at the opening! Possible murder/mayhem opening teaser with a romantic twist throughout all with unbelievable production design and a little education for good measure - c'mon, American broadcasters WISH they had this much going on in any hour of programming... Great job Martijn.

You will never see anything like this on mainstream TV.. because there's nothing here to make us feel bad about ourselves. Nothing to make us feel the planet is about to explode. Just beauty and the vision of an artist. A modern day Leonardo da Vinci
Martjin is such an authentic throwback to a bygone era....never once have I seen him working in a tshirt...always working in a button-down long sleeve & often worn with a vest. Classic gentleman....with insane DIY skills!!
He sometimes seems from a bygone era but it's also this region of northern Italy that seems from a bygone era, which was exquisite and natural (in some regards) at the same time. It's not necessarily "insane skills", he has simply had lots of practice and experience and a lot of effort and work, so in the end he gets his project to be finished and to be enjoyed.
Aside from Chiara's fascinating and vast knowledge of wild herbs, the first few scenes with her were of a cinematic quality that were likely the envy of many filmmakers. It seems from the comments, that I wasn't the only one to have noticed. Whilst there was nothing untoward or any suggestion of any romance, the scenes were incredibly romantic in the broadest sense of the word encapsulating and connecting all the factors of the natural surroundings as well as the two wonderful people in the video.
I appreciate how much you keep your episodes real for us, Martijn. You aren’t spinning a fairytale for us, but sharing the actual way that life flows. It’s what makes your story relatable to so many of us, even though we may be living on the 4th floor in a busy city (me) not building a cabin homestead (you.). I recognize the moments of weariness, calm, satisfaction, and frustration. That’s part of the deep pleasure that comes from sharing someone’s real life. We are the same. Martijn is always so calm and relaxed. It was interesting to finally see him lose his cool a LITTLE bit when his hoe or pick axe was defeated by the huge rock slab! But of course, he will never give up. That rock doesn't stand a chance!
Most people would have looked at that the scale of that rock and simply filled the hole back in but Martin’s resolve was inspiring. It was a big problem solved with simple determination and effort. Getting that done and having it work must have been so satisfying.
A veritable goddess of the herbs and flowers arrives to generously gift Martijn with special knowledge. Chiara shows that the whole homestead is a garden! Martijn took his pillow and motored off at the end, destination Lake Orta, perhaps? This channel is singular in the depth of beauty it offers us viewers. The chickens are a hoot! Thanks Martijn!
You need a "call" for your hens. Here in Australia, we call them "chooks" ( rhymes with books). When we want them, we just call out..." Here chook chook chook". They learn very quickly. 🙃
Chiara is as knowledgeable as she is beautiful! It’s wonderful to see someone bring back knowledge of what was once common place. 👏. And OMG do I love the chickens! I love the shot of ALL 4 of them sitting together on their perch. Here’s to another great week and many more to come! Thank you for sharing Martjin 👏🙏💃🏻
You should have a calling sound to gather the chickens, When you feed them make a sound that can be loud and then you use that same sound all the time to call them, they will come because they will think they are getting food.
Indeed. Our neighbors probably laugh when they hear us calling “kipkipkip” (chicken chicken chicken in Dutch) every day at around 5 pm. But they do come immediately since they like their grains!

You know how to keep the flow of a storyline going without much talk. You also know how to show just enough of what you are doing to give an idea of what's happening. There is continuity without becoming boring and repetitive. This is "hands down" the best youtube channel, among the ones I have subscribed to. There is class, rustic elegance, and so much more. You give your viewers vicarious enjoyment week after week, even in imagining what a one week old coffee cinnamon bread must taste like. Makes me wish I could have a bite or two. Just wanted to leave this comment, so you also hear what an Asian viewer thinks of your channel. Till next week's episode! P. S. I could watch an entire episode devoted to your four chickens. Don't let them out of the coop before mid-morning. They tend to lay eggs in the morning. Keep the straw in the nest boxes nice and fluffy and change it regularly. If you see your hen settling down in the wrong nesting spot, gently grab her and move her to the nest. Provide artificial light in winter. They need at least 14 hours of light each day. If you notice your hens trying to sleep on the nesting box remove then, if they sleep on the nesting boxes, they will not lay eggs there.

The chickens were a great addition but your new lady friend would be the best addition to your homestead in my opinion. You two look good together by the way.
There are historically few artistic visions on earth that are so beautifully inspiring and often depicted by the brush of an artist than a woman walking through a sunny field in a brimmed hat picking edible flowers, fruits, and greens. Martijn is a true Renaissance man living amongst us documenting not only his skills and determination, but also his foibles and imperfections. And he never lets us forget the beauty of an insect landing on a flower or the artful nature of the earth providing us so much abundance to truly enjoy every day that we are alive on it.😇
Martijn just had an encounter with a wood fairy. My Grandpa used to say they exist. I've seen one also in this video and believe him now! What a fantastic woman is that?! I hope you picked up a lot of knowledge from her because she sure knows her subject! Peacefull video as always.
My goodness Chiara is a veritable forest goddess. Like something from a Greek romance novel. And such an encyclopedic knowledge. Good Lord what a treasure. So happy your chickens are ok
A nice day Martijn but I was glad to see the rain to give you a rest from digging out that rock that’s like half a mountain, take care, mind your back 🌸
Glad all is well with your chickens Martijn. Also I wanted to say I appreciate the time you dedicate to these videos which to me seem effortless, but I realize what they entail.

And winter passed, she came again, And her song released the sudden spring, Like rising lark, and falling rain, And melting water bubbling. He saw the eleven-flowers spring About her feet, and healed again He longed by her to dance and sing Upon the grass untroubling. Again she fled, but swift he came. Tinúviel! Tinúviel! He called her by her elvish name; And there she halted listening.
that was a beautiful video. Chiara was a real treat in every way! She's so beautiful and it's amazing what she knows about all the plants. I wished you would have given her a microphone, I'd loved to hear more about all the plants. And the salad looked really tasty! That rock was a backbreaker! The clouds were just mystic!
so glad the chickens are all safe! Awesome to learn about all the wonderful plants that are edible (and which ones to NOT eat!) Your land is so beautiful!

You had me at Titian tresses. Scientific Latin names and charming good manners and Pomona cornucopia basket and wild woman robes, OMG. Make this woman a star. Also, I feel as if eating wild herbs foraged from your own land is a rite of passage. I think maybe the mountains own you now. I would mark the locations of the St. John's lillies and see if I could propagate them. Could Chiara or your dad have tips?

@Official-MartijnDoolaard_ hit me down 😆
I always dread the end of your videos because it will be a whole week before I see your progress again. Thank you Martijn your videos are the best!
And he never lets us forget the beauty of an insect landing on a flower or the artful nature of the earth providing us so much abundance to truly enjoy every day that we are alive on it.😇
Beautifully said!
The foraging was very interesting, & she was very kind to share her knowledge! I’m sure you appreciated learning more about your land.
Martijn just had an encounter with a wood fairy. My Grandpa used to say they exist. I've seen one also in this video and believe him now! What a fantastic woman is that?! I hope you picked up a lot of knowledge from her because she sure knows her subject! Peacefull video as always.
I guess you can check off moving a small mountain to your bucket list. Man. What a boulder.
Martin you need a small commercial 4 wheel drive tractor with a front loader, and a detachable backhoe and agricultural wagon to move things 😁👍
My goodness Chiara is a veritable forest goddess. Like something from a Greek romance novel. And such an encyclopedic knowledge. Good Lord what a treasure. So happy your chickens are ok
OI!! Italian goddess please....never mind the Greeks...😂😂
@@anaderol5408Italian gods are greek gods but with a nickname 😂
@@TheGreekSpawn The Greek gods were the prototypes...the Italians perfected them...😂😂
I know enough when I see 2 people mirroring eachother. 🥰
You are an inspiration. I see paintings in every scene. The one with you and Chiara on your lookout rock is a Masterpiece.
Isn’t it curious how so many of us got the same vibe off these two!
They were so natural together.
Let’s not jinx it. Shush!
A nice day Martijn but I was glad to see the rain to give you a rest from digging out that rock that’s like half a mountain, take care, mind your back 🌸
Not really interested in gardening. And now I am sitting here, listening to Chiara explaining birches. And enjoying myself. Thank you, both of you!
Glad all is well with your chickens Martijn. Also I wanted to say I appreciate the time you dedicate to these videos which to me seem effortless, but I realize what they entail.
I love the fact that a segment of this video is called 'Breaking the rock'.
Im so glad you got your chickens back. you havebeen an inspiration to me in my old age and illnesses, thank you, the videos keep me going. please look after yourself and be happy. - peggyAnne
Positive energy and thoughts to you

Thank you, as ever Martijn..
Things I loved about my new favourite episode…
Chiara, Botanical Earth Goddess, sharing her wise-woman wisdom 🙏,
The chickens are safe,
Every hazy or rainy summer day shot,
The mountain and her generosity
And the feeling of permanence and of you settling into the land.
Much appreciation 🙏🏽🙏🙏🏽🙏🙏🏽
You could do an entire video..just on that beautiful lady foraging and making different things…what a blessing it is to know someone with such knowledge..and willing to share it!
Another time perhaps she could tell us stories, she seems versed in the old ways.
Ms. Chiara... thankyou for your beautiful bountiful presence AND presents to Martijn's video presentation, this week.
1,000 blessings in return.
please can we talk?😄
Yea! It’s Sunday. Time for the best channel on UA-cam.
Chickens have become the shiny heroes of this channel! :D
Is it only me or is this the start of a new beginning? 😊 Another lovely and quaint episode ❤️🙌
I adore the cut at 22:39 ... the moment Chiara focuses on something... Martijn goes back to digging. Hilarious.
The comedy in Martjin's pausing to compose his anger was perfect.
G*dverd*mme!😅
I laughed. But it is oh so recognizeable.
Where/at what time does this occur? :)

Sorry Martin I don't want to install Telegram. On the other hand I love your work. I get a real sense of peace from watching and at 76 peace is important to me. Thank you.😀
Working with rock/stone is exhausting and you have a lot of that going on as you build your dream here, admire your vision and resiliency in this challenge man, we're all rooting for you.
i respect your attitude and lifestyle. this is sorely lacking in modern western society.
Thank you for every single second you share with all of us!!!
14:00 that girl is a GEM🥰😍😇
Is Chiara coming back to make you sure how to pick good herbs? Once isn't enough for you to learn.
her voice is lovely i would need hourly listens.....
martin and chiara should have a wedding up there!
We all want to see more Chiara
Guys. Stop being simps.
@@1Jason Come on man, it's lonely up there this woman would be the perfect addition to him they're just cheering them on ffs.
And winter passed, she came again,
And her song released the sudden spring,
Like rising lark, and falling rain,
And melting water bubbling.
He saw the eleven-flowers spring
About her feet, and healed again
He longed by her to dance and sing
Upon the grass untroubling.
Again she fled, but swift he came.
Tinúviel! Tinúviel!
He called her by her elvish name;
And there she halted listening.
Where is that from, if I may ask?
glad you found the chickens..... What a special day with a beautiful - powerful woman & who is so knowledgable of the land & plants...
that was a beautiful video.
Those 4 colourful beautiful chickens would make a lovely painting
Wow !!! One hour video. Yay... thank you so much Martijn .. you made my day. Blessings and love to you and you everyone following you on this amazing journey ❤
Martin, don't get frustrated. You are doing great, better than any one man wrecking crew I have seen
This is a lovely beautiful episode and again very inspirational !!! Thank you Martijn & Chiara
I am sooo impressed... You even sew! I have a sewing machine and use it just for making fun outfits! ...Cinderella, one year and a "Hippie" the year before!😂😊
You had me at Titian tresses.
She is an angel
Martijn,
Every Sunday my husband and I come home from church fix some lunch and huddle up in front of the tv for our trip to the alps of Italy. We love your channel and watching your patience and tenacity in doing things the right way. I am glad the chickens were ok. Take care!

The great stone was a struggle, but made for great cinematography. Another great program today. Thank you.
And the beginning of a very authentic Dutch word as well…. 😂👍🏻
What back breaking work. Respect Martijn!
