Until the Wheels Fall Off was a masterpiece for anyone who grew up watching Tony. It was beyond inspiring and the interviews were really excellent.
Keep thrashing and get well soon!
Totally agree!! And thank you!
The last 4 are some of the best, but the docu-series, released as a DVD of "Drive" about Mike Vallely traveling the country and world was so amazing! If you haven't seen it, you should watch it while you heal. Get well soon, Eric!
P.S. Rodney's autobiography would be a great basis for a documentary on him.
Oh snap! I’ll check it out! Thanks for the recommendation, dude. And yeah, I agree. I’d love to learn everything possible about Mullen. I would love to see the behind the scenes of how he got connected to his TED talk and so much more. And thanks man! Hopefully I’ll be back on my board in a couple of months! In the meantime I’ve got a sweet book to read too! 😁
Appreciate this! Mike V was my favourite skater in my childhood. Completely influenced how I skate and is the main reason why I skate like a dude from another era.
Can't believe All This Mayhem wasn't in there.. actually yeah, I believe it
Mannnn so I watched this one and the doc came off as super one sided. It was entertaining but when researching it, it sounded like the majority of the skate world had a different version of events than those told in All This Mayhem, so I left it out. Thanks for watching!
That's the papas one?
That was a crazy doc. It pissed me off that they were doing clean 900s before Tony but bc of the politics they were pushed out. And then their stories ended so tragically, insanely tragic, which is probably why they didn’t want to include it
Dude, the Daewon documentary is my favorite. The first skate video I ever owned was "Rodney Mullen vs. Daewon Song". Also, holy hell, a rib break?! What's your estimated recovery time?
aw man that was one of my first videos too!! and it's looking like I'll probably be out until about May 😞 BUTT I have been saving up a lot of footage for future projects so at least that's good haha. Thanks for watching and good luck on your triathlon, dude!!
@@EricJKuhns ayyy thanks, I'll dedicate it to your rib.
If you haven't read it, "The Mutt: How to Skateboard and Not Kill Yourself" is a great read. Rodney Mullen's biography. Hope your rib is getting better and better! Great video/editing
About to go try and find that and get it. Thanks for the recommendation, dude! And thanks for watching! 🙏
So glad to see minding the gap on here, my favorite piece of film I’ve ever seen.
It’s was so good!
Solid video, content, editing... you're a great filmmaker looking forward to what's next
Thanks so much for the kind words and for watching!! 🥹🙏
No love for the Hosoi doc?
Never seen it?? I’ll have to check it out! Is it good?
@@EricJKuhns I might be biased because he is one of my favorites, but his life has such an amazing story. You can actually watch the entire thing on youtube. It's called "Rising Son: The Legend of Skateboarder Christian Hosoi"
That’s a great one
It's called Rising Son, and it's one of the best. Also, No Danny Way doc? All good choices, just need a bigger list. lol.
I like the Gator story about how the world transitioned from vert to street and he wasn't able to adapt.
The documentary 'All This Mayhem' was also good, on some fearless kids from Australia!
BTW, would love to see a good documentary on Bam Margera!
Lol the black ninja reference in the Venice bit 😂
Agreed about the Mullen Doc. Would give 11/10 for sure. I would watch it fa days
RIGHT!? Maybe someone out there is working on it!
this must be the first time I've seen this channel. your local skatepark is huge! you could probably fit about 10 of my local parks inside of it.
Well I’m glad you found it! And yeah I was blessed in the Dallas area and am again in the Denver area where I live now with giant skateparks. Hopefully theyll build some bigger parks out near you! 🤘🛹
You've got to check out, "Blood and Steel, Cedar Crest Country Club." Nick-named, "The Crest", it was a half-pipe mecca that drew in skaters from around the country. It featured some of the best vert skating of the 1980s. It was a favorite of the one and only Tony Hawk. Maybe I'm biased because I'm an 80s kid, myself. But I'd give it an....8 out of 10.
Im sorry about your injury. I hope you recovered.
Thanks dude and thanks for watching! Hopefully I’ll be back to skating around May.
Transworld anthologys part about penny alone makes it one of the best docs ever.
Locve the format of the video and how organized if is❤❤
Thank you!! 🙏❤️🛹
I guess with Stoked - it could possibly appeal more if u grew up in the 80s - not to mention it's about a individuals demise which leads to unspeakable murder. Also the doc was made in the 90s and possibly failed to age into a timeless watch.
Oh man I think that’s it. It was really good but I think it was ruined because I watched a murder documentary about this case that wasn’t in the documentary in question, so I knew the story. Still a solid doc that def made it in my favorites!
@@EricJKuhns That story is shut ashame and affected so many who were close and in that circle.... If I'm not mistaken - the young woman who was the victim in the story dated Christian Hosoi back then and had a day fling with Jeff Grosso. But Gator was right there with the Bones Brigade and Hosoi as far as board but bm
Honorable mentions...All This Mayhem, Never Been Done: The Jon Comer Story, and Skatopia: 88 Acres of Anarchy...some of my faves
I’m thinking there needs to be a part two to my video after reading these comments, haha. And I’ve never seen/heard of 88 acres of anarchy 🤔 I’ll have to check that one out!
Bro that's the Montbello skate park
Yeah! This was my first time there. I loved it beside the broken rib haha
I never saw the other motivation doc . The Chris Cole one was dope though. The papas doc was good too but very sad but I believe the claims he made about Tony hawk . I won't say what they are but they definitely make sense
I liked the thps games for what they were but most real skaters wanted something more realistic. I played thps 1 over and but then i discovered an older game... thrasher on ps1 the trick setup was easy more realistic. It was difficult and you couldn't just grind forever. Then the skate series was the best but then skater xl changed the game with the best skate simulator ever. Being able to control each foot with their corresponding joystick was revolutionary. I haven't played session but I'm guessing it's similar. Now we just need a big studio to take that control system and make a full length game. Skater xl is awesome because it allows players to make their own parks for everyone to play. So every park you can think of is there. Every spot you've seen, someone has made it available. I love xl love love it.
Anthology better be on your list.
Man who souled the world #1
Dude it was so good!!
I’m from Philly so I gotta say it what about the love part documentary
Awww man I loved that doc! It’s under 45 mins though so I left it out. I’ll have to make a follow up video and include shorter docs!
Honestly Til the Wheels Fall Off will be hard to top in my opinion. But it set the standard for how good a skateboarding documentary can and should be.
Totally agree! Maybe this will push more filmmakers to do the same. Lots of people in skateboarding would be interesting as a main subject for a film. I’m curious which ones are in the works right now 🤔 thanks for watching!!
World sucked. They existed so noobs could get their first pro board. Anyone past the beginning stage bought better boards. And i know a lot of brands used the same distributors and only the graphics were the difference. Especially back then but still. Very few real skaters bought worlds boards. The graphics were cheeseball.
