Results of the Long-Term Outcomes Study of Ibogaine Treatment in Mexico
    Thomas Kingsley Brown, PhD
This presentation is an overview of the MAPS-funded study of long-term outcomes for ibogaine-assisted treatment of opiate dependence for patients at two clinics in Baja California, Mexico. Beginning in September of 2010, the study enrolled thirty US residents seeking ibogaine treatment for opiate dependence at the clinics. The study used the Addiction Severity Index to assess each subject's severity of drug addiction at enrollment into the study and then monthly after treatment for twelve months. The 12-month follow-up of the 30th participant was completed in September of 2012, and currently the MAPS team is analyzing the data and preparing a manuscript for publication. In the presentation at this conference, the study protocol will be discussed in detail, and preliminary results will be discussed.
Tom Kingsley Brown, PhD started his research on ibogaine treatment in November of 2009 when he conducted interviews with ibogaine patients at ibogaine clinics in northern Baja California, Mexico and collected data for the purpose of studying changes in Quality of Life for those patients. His academic background is primarily in chemistry (B.S., University of Pittsburgh and M.S., California Institute of Technology) and anthropology (Ph.D., UCSD). He has long had an interest in altered states of consciousness and in life-changing experiences such as religious conversion. He is currently on staff at the University of California, San Diego and resides in San Diego with his partner and their two sons.

I recovered from years of kratom konsumption by using ketamin. I think that the ndma antagonism is really the key. And there is groundbreaking research about glutamate and its role in depression. Thank you for your talk and looking to a bright future where this class of drugs can heal the suffering in this world.

It was outlawed not because, but before anyone, including the FDA, had any knowledge of its anti-addictive properties. That it remains outlawed is due to institutional inertia, not malice.

I did my ibogaine experience in March 2012. I will say that I did it for my anxiety and depression and I was self medicating it with alcohol. I tried many things to help my anxiety and depression and nothing worked. I went to a clinic in Mexico. It was overall a great experience. I ended up taking voacangine africana instead of the ibogaine from the root of iboga. It is somehow converted from the plant into ibogaine. I was having a hard time with my anxiety and they ended up giving me this instead of the iboga plant ibogaine. My blood pressure was really high due to anticipating taking the dose...I have had a hard time with my anxiety so I was told that this was a better way to go. Needless to say, I was slow at metabolizing the drug...I ended up taking quite a bit and it didn't really hit me like it hit the others until way early into the morning hours. I really experienced it all in waves for two days. I got the full experience for sure. Some of it was magical and some of it was terrifying. I was not physically sick though. I threw up a few times, but it didn't really feel like nausea, my body just purged and I felt like I was not even in my body when I purged. Yeah, that was interesting in itself because I hate throwing up. I think the most annoying thing about the physical aspect of it was I felt like my whole body had weight on it. I was couldn't walk without assistance...and I couldn't sit up without assistance....that lasted for a good 6 hours. I remember just being in and out of hallucinating the first 6 hours it hit. I had to be prompted and brought back to reality when I would slip into hallucinating. After the 6 hours, I would then be completely lucid yet hallucinate into reality for the next 24 hours or so. I would be completely in reality and then it was like riding a wave where the hallucinations would interrupt reality but I was able to interact with both knowing that I was hallucinating. The first 6 hours were worthless because I was too far gone. The parts where I could talk about what I was seeing and change things on will where the most beneficial. I think I would like to do it again now that I know what to expect. I never had any experiences with hallucinogenics and I think I was just so full of fear. I think now that I have that one under my belt I could get further with another journey into it.
I still have anxiety and depression. I still drink. I still think that my experience was amazing though. I do wish it was not as expensive...but I was well taken care of in order to experience it safely. I think the only difference now is I know why I drink. It is to escape the here and now. But that is pretty obvious. I don't like sitting with myself. Ibogaine showed me that I need to reach out to other people. I still don't because I don't trust them. This is addiction in a nutshell. It is covering over those painful feelings we don't want to feel. But, the only thing you can do is embrace it somehow.

Thank you for sharing your experience and your truth. I understand you and I totally agree with you. If you need alcohol to feel better then use it . Balance out the side effect and except the fact that you don’t trust people because maybe those people have to earn your trust. That’s wise.

@mountaingoat1003 I think you hit the nail on the head when you said you really have to be at a point in your addiction where you truly hate it and have had enough for it to really work and also your attitude going into the experience and then of course where you choose to do it. I’m currently looking for a place myself. I live in Canada so I was thinking of doing it locally here but these places in Mexico seem to have a lot more “bells and whistles” but are also a lot more expensive. Where did you do yours? How are you feeling now did you do any follow up doses?

All Psychedelics do the same thing. Learn the science and then just use what you have access to. I used psilocybin to get off of 140 mg of methadone that I'd been on for 7 years, to afraid to quit. I took about 3.5 to 4 g of shrooms with my normal dose and it was amazing. I asked the shrooms if they would. Please help me to rid my body of this addiction if it would show me the things that I most needed to know and with that it went right to work The experience was very amazing and very spiritual, very profound. And now I'm off at a 140 mg. Of methadone I got off of it in under 3 weeks. Using one dose of shrooms at 3.5 to approximately 4 g. That most importantly, I didn't experience one physical withdrawal symptom. Not one and I still have yet to feel anything different. I was going to do another dose after I was off of it. But I found that I didn't really need to because the medicine is still working. 👊

I was REALLY interested in this until I kept looking for actual people that paid for and underwent treatment at these facilities ...I am talking specifically about people NOT being highlighted by these same money making enterprises, because HOW can I trust THAT?? I am not gullible! I WANTED for it to be legitimate, I really really DID! I was ready to go for it! But first I wanted to find people that are speaking and are NOT in anyway affiliated with the enterprise. What I found was virtually no one singing praises but many completely dissatisfied people that paid a crapload of money and got ZERO relief for their money...not only that but several told how others they met and spoke with at these facilities felt the very same way.... well I for one am not about to lay down my money....I WOULD try it if it was reasonably priced but that is not the case, it has to be SOLD via super hype and built up with over the top can't lose expectations...go ahead if you want to but PLEASE PLEASE share your experience when you get home...People do not need the hype, we need to hear FROM the actual patients...not one or two here and there but LOTS of them...there is no substitute for actual people that bought a product...people making money are overwhelmingly unable apparently to be honest...they just can't seem to do it...

+Doug Chaney Did you watch the video? My presentation was based on research with 30 people who received ibogaine treatment at clinics in Mexico. The results are quite good on the whole. I've also spoken with many others who've received ibogaine treatment and are very happy with the results. And there are friends and relatives, most notably parents of those patients, who are very thankful that they found ibogaine treatment, and they have told me that they are quite pleased with the results. Regarding the cost, a few have told me they wished that they'd found this treatment years ago, before they wasted their retirement savings on standard treatments that didn't work. Note: this works well for many people, but it doesn't work well for everyone. But watch the video! Also, anyone looking for ibogaine treatment must indeed be careful about choosing a clinic. It's true that the advertisements you see online can be very misleading. Talk with the clinic director, and if possible, with a medical doctor who works with the clinic. Make sure they do proper screenings (EKG, liver enzyme and other tests) to maximize safety.

I've done it, it works 100%. It gets you through the initial, miserable detox (you basically sleep through it) and its amazingly effective, no sweats, pains etc. After that though, its all down to willpower - ibogaine helps there too though with boosters.. Basically Ibogaine gets you off (and the experience is fascinating but it is NOT something you would take for fun), but you can still fuck up and use again once you're clean, its up to the person. Ibogaine works though, kicks your ass, gets you clean.

Get a govt not on the payroll of pharmaceutical companies(the real drug pushers) and distilleries. Last I heard its illegal so to import it will get you in serious trouble. But its ok to take oxycontin daily if you get a note from a doctor. go figure

Exactly what I was thinking. I was so blown away by iboga (who isn't:) i was immediately so shocked and for years thereafter still wonder how The Devil managed to keep it such a secret.. Especially considering the Gov't was aware of it's anti-addiction potential in the 50's and were using it.. still like you said with thousands of homemade detox videos online so few views here..

okay2122007 yep my life struggle has been with methadone!! I was on it for years and have tried 3 times to get off of it and successfully did it and was clean for 6 months and I swear to God I couldn't take the severe/suicidal depression and no interest and motivation for anything in life! I had to go back on the crap JUST to feel like an absolute human again. I have heard that EVENTUALLY you'll get back the interest in life but I couldn't take it anymore it's like I was getting worse instead of better! I didn't have to get off the medicine I wanted to! I don't want to be stuck on this methadone for the rest of my life but I don't have any other option! There's nothing that has been found yet that can take that hell away except the methadone or sub that was being taken. I hate it! Not to mention methadone causes weight gain due to slow metabolism and fluid. (inflammation) I wish I would've never tried heroin in my life!! (or any other pain pills for that matter) I'm really hoping that I can find an answer to being normal without methadone.

Danielle, there is an option that is not available in the U.S. There is a root that is extracted from the Iboga plant and they call it Ibogain. If You can get to Canada or Mexico, You can find a treatment center. There are some centers that I'd personally be Leary of. There is a cost, between $4000 and$6000. If You find places cheaper then that may not be using Real Ibogain. A dose would cost between $1500 and $2000. There are places online that will sell You something but it may not be what You NEED. Eric at Crossroads (413)636-1643 is someone that I have found that seems to truly care about HELPING people. The thing to remember is Ibogain will CURE You from addiction and RESETS Your mind. It is done in a weekend but most programs are 7 days. It WILL CURE ALL ADDICTIONS! Drugs, alcohol, gambling, ect. Live life will. 😊 Take care.
