Some people seem to hate this performance. I like it. I thought he had good energy and the crowd got behind it. It’s not always necessarily about sounding te best but about delivery, energy and performance as well. Sure there are better done live versions floating around but after organizing it all to still have the energy to get the crowd pumped is pretty impressive.

To all the people saying that The Boomtown Rats’ performance sucked: I don’t think you get it. They got a cheaper sound system so they could use all the money for their cause. Their music, even on albums, wasn’t really ever about the sound, it was about the message and the passion. This is how this song should be performed. With passion and the concern of passion and getting the crowd unified more than how they actually sound. I actually prefer this version over the album version simple because it’s more emotional and raw and passionate.

It's also filmed, documented and confirmed that the reason the Rats moved was to have Bob in the stands for the TV cameras to give gravitas to the cause: "Look, both Charles & Di are now sat with the organiser of this great event". Move along.

@@dominiccrimmings6925 I didn't say that that was one of her favorite bands, She wanted to see them as she liked "Monday's" She liked different groups, she had "three named favs" at one point or another. at one point Duran was her fav, later Spandau, another time it was Dire Straits. There were other ulterior motives by certain individuals as far as why the switch was made. That still causes friction between people. This song became one of my favorite songs by The Rats. I first learned about this Irish Band, a newspaper article out "I don't like Mondays" -so, I sought out their music. I had three of their albums on cassette by the time of 1984's Band Aid -and I joined the cause with some money donation. Glad that Bob and Midge had the ambition to start this charity and effort (and I did not like We are the children" from the US variant, as it didn't address the central idea of famine, and was reportedly an ego-fest for some of the musicians) The B' Rats didn't last long after live Aid - and the US record co' had their song "'Dave" changed to "Rain" for reasons (both versions have merits). Glad that some of the Rats have reformed to tour, and make new music. They were a fine Band of Ireland.

    A fraction of bliss
Your hearts in my mouth and

But is it always like this with you?
Tuck me up with stories I've been told

Then wake me up with days that come and go
(With pink and...With pink and...With pink and gold)

    The passion's been spent
The movie winds down and says "The End" in French
    I'll turn on the lights
But do I have to pretend it's true?
I love you....oh, oh, oh, oh...

Why do we have to compare every single performance on live aid with queen's?
They were all marvelous. At the end it is the cause that matters and we tend to forget that.

Feels a bit like cheating really.. He could've sung happy birthday, or Jack and Jill, and he would have been idolized.
I've seen somewhere else that he wasn't supposed to play, and I would guess that is the reason...
BUT "I don't like Mondays" was such an epic moment. "HOW TO DIEEEEEEEEEEEEE"

Not quite, he was in an established band and had established songs. The boomtown rats were as good as the other (non Queen) bands there that day. They had every right to be there and perform whether Geldof started live aid or not.
