Some people seem to hate this performance. I like it. I thought he had good energy and the crowd got behind it. It’s not always necessarily about sounding te best but about delivery, energy and performance as well. Sure there are better done live versions floating around but after organizing it all to still have the energy to get the crowd pumped is pretty impressive.

To all the people saying that The Boomtown Rats’ performance sucked: I don’t think you get it. They got a cheaper sound system so they could use all the money for their cause. Their music, even on albums, wasn’t really ever about the sound, it was about the message and the passion. This is how this song should be performed. With passion and the concern of passion and getting the crowd unified more than how they actually sound. I actually prefer this version over the album version simple because it’s more emotional and raw and passionate.
Sound better than Led Zeppelin did lol. I think they sound great on this one. Many bands were probably nervous as hell playing for not only thousands there but millions worldwide.

live aid was one of the best show in 85 i do remember growing up listening to these guy best performer everybody played live aid its change our world and heart and now some are still around one of great performer you guy give great great memories
It was the concert that the Rats didn't deserve to be at and there is still some animosity about how they (Bob) changed their "slot" so he could be seen with the royals in the stands. Look it up.

Glad that some of the Rats have reformed to tour, and make new music. They were a fine Band of Ireland.

I'm guessing you are saying this because you just watched "Bohemian Rhapsody." Queen were good, but Santana with Pat Methany in Philly were brilliant - and I hated Santana at the time.
It didn't wipe everyone out. McCartney, Neil Young with Crazy Horse, Clapton.......and many more shined. Queen was fantastic, but so we're a lot of artists that day.

The original was never actually mixed. Everything you hear was played on the day. The great keys from Johnnie and the B.v.'s would have been out front in Wembley but lost initially on the video.

Slip, Speaking as someone who watched Queens Live Aid performance(I was in my early 20s), Ill call it a great performance but the Earth didnt stop spinning because of it. At the time, Queen was something of a has been act here in the USA. Their last big hit was in 1981. Live Aid kind of reminded the public of how good they were but after Live Aid, they still had some popularity but never regained what they had in the 1970s.
Why do we have to compare every single performance on live aid with queen's? They were all marvelous. At the end it is the cause that matters and we tend to forget that.
