    Loved this video alot, really great stuff, narration was perfect throughout, I'd shorten the benchmarks a tad, but still surprising to see what this PC, and my childhood graphics (Intel Extreme Graphics) can do. Great work once again!

    Back in 2004-2006 when I got into PC building the Optiplex gx280's were all the rage for budget builds! All you had to do is slap in a Geforce 7800 GTX and another stick of 512mb of RAM and you could play anything at 30+fps all day for under $400 total! Miss the old days...

    I found a Compaq Presario S6020WM on the curb that was very similar in specs to this PC. It has a MSI motherboard with solder points for AGP but no slot. I didn’t want to keep it original being a Celeron so I performed the following upgrades:
    1. Replaced the PSU (bad caps) 2. Replaced the Celeron for a Pentium 4 2.8 GHz
    3. Added a 256MB PCI ATI Radeon
    4. Upgraded the DDR to 1GB and it is a now a nice little XP Gaming PC that didn’t break the bank to put together. They also threw out the matching 17” CRT which works very well being nearly 15 years old!

      Labib's Official Science Page yeah the Intel GMA 4500 is way superior without a doubt! ;) It can almost even run Oblivion which is a huge step.

      I used MSI Afterburner and my CPU was being bottlenecked.. And its a Pentium T4400... I was thinking about upgrading but its not worth it. And besides theres a stuck screw ;-;

      Labib's Official Science Page Yeah I think your better of getting a new PC too rather than upgrading your current one, I recommend getting a cheap used sandybridge i5 desktop if you're on a thight budget.

    Socket 478 is PGA, not LGA. Meaning that the pins are on the CPU itself, not the motherboard.

    Hi All, I have my Dell 2400 as a low end XP machine. I wiped the hard drive, installed dos 6.22 on a 2gig partition and placed my favorite old dos games on it. One the rest of the hard drive i installed win XP , and it dual boots fine with the stock microsoft menu on boot up. My machine came with 1 x 512 memory stick but i replaced it with 2 x 1 gig , XP flies, but i cannot install win 95/98 on it with that much overall memory.
    The other option which make it retro friendly is on boot up select bios set up ( F2 maybe ) and go to CPU option and change it from normal to compatible - this i believe turns of the cache and the cpu slows down to 386dx levels, you can play the mid 80's early 90os games much better now, but XT AT games locked to the 4.77hz will be to fast , you will have to try out soft ware slow down software. Just ensure yo use a SB16 or similar PCI card for best dos sound experience.
    The machine is not a powerhouse, but are extremely stable and reliable

    • @computercatgaming02
      @computercatgaming02  6 років тому

      +george maragos Cool I still need to try out DOS on this thing!
      So far this Dell is now my main windows 98 gaming PC, after a lot of troubleshooting of hardware conflicts.
      And I think its very cool seeing such machines like the Dell 2400 finally being useful for something whatever it is DOS or some early 2000s gaming, though the lack of AGP is a bummer but it's a nice system for various projects.
      I will probably make a video on this PC once more in the future.

    My 2400 has only 1x 256 MB so you're starting off better than me already.
    I just got this one Donated.
    It's Possible there was 2x 256 MB but not sure
    I don't have any History on the Machine
    It's so slow I'm not sure it could even run Win 95 hahahaha
    I might throw a few parts into it just to get it operating the way it was intended but with a Win 7 Upgrad and Ram
    I think the HDD is 80gb
