The Xeon v3's (Haswell) are the best bang/buck for this kind of build atm, imo. Takes a bit more research and patience to find a suitable mobo, but decent deals are out there.

This is almost exactly the build I've been planning out for several months. I came across 2x Xeon 2650v2s, (basically a whole server) with 64GB of DDR3. I will be running it as a server with Plex and other things.

It would be really cool if you did a comparison between this setup, your LGA771 dual CPU setup and your LGA3647 one. Maybe even throw in an LGA1356 and 2011-3 to fill it in. Just show how intel has developed over the years on the server end

you should've do a 2697 v2,the top model of this socket with 12 cores according to cpubenchmark,and compared it to 3900x or higher...that way,it would've been amazing to know is it really worth it for utmost performance in rendering or not.

Actually, ddr3 ecc is dirt cheap. Like $14 for 8 gig stick, $25 for 16 gig. It is about two times cheaper than regular ddr3. Because chineese factories salvage low capacity old mem sticks, like 512 mb or 1 gig and they make ddr3 ecc with 16 memory chips per stick.
Found some SDRAM a few days back while cleaning out the store room. You never know when you'll need the SDR sticks.

The dual socket will draw way more power in idle tho. If you are on a budget, Ryzen will save you tons in electricity bill (Considering the computer will be ran 16 hours a day, and the Ryzen draws 10W idle, and the Xeons draw 15*2=30W, you are looking at anywhere from 1.5 to 5 dollars per month of saving. If the computer is loaded most of the time, this effect will be amplified a lot, as much as 15 dollars a month of difference).
TLDR: Going for cheap old hardware will most of the time cost you more in mid to long term.

Me and my wife both got Ryzen 5600s last year. I wonder if, a few years down the road, it would be useful to get a compatible dual-CPU motherboard and use both of them for one of us, while the other gets a newer CPU.
Same goes for our RAM - each of us has a pair of Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4 @ 3600MHz 2x16GB.
That said, given how it seems like you'd need twice the RAM for a dual-CPU rig, it might not be worth it in our case, even with 2x Ryzen 5600s... then again, this is something to ponder in a few years; maybe by then some motherboards will be able to use a single set of RAM DIMMs for two CPUs and thus make such a setup potentially viable.
For audio post, I still run a dual 8 core z620 workstation with 128gb of ram and I'm not planning to upgrade. Multitrack audio runs extremely well on many cores and you can still do additional tasks like video conversion or exports in the background. At home, I still rock my 2600k @4.7ghz and I just ordered a Ryzen 3800x to replace it. However, I do not expect to have my socks blown off.
Today's real performance gains come through software optimization. CPU wise, nothing earth-shattering happened within the last 9 years. The 3800x isn't even twice as fast per core than the 2600k is. Leaps like going to 486DX, Core2 or Sandy Bridge just don't happen anymore.

Would be good to see the "server" system Power Management profile set to High Performance. Those cores weren't running at base frequency in the task manager. I've seen that plenty with high core count servers. If you don't care about your power bill, the performance difference is striking.

Doesn't apply to the video per say, but for people who look at Task Manager and see some utilization on every thread (i.e. 16 graphs for 8-core CPU each at 50%) and say "It's using ever CPU thread at least" just remember there's such a thing as "thread jumping" which is VERY common where the code starts on a hardware thread, finishes the job, then starts on a different CPU thread with one possible result being equal usage on AVERAGE across all CPU threads... so just because you see every physical hardware thread being utilized it does NOT mean they are being utilized at the same time. This seems to be a common misunderstanding... If we had a 4-core CPU without hyperthreading for example a single-threaded program might show 25% CPU usage across all four cores (or a little more to account for background tasks) or it could show 100% usage on one core if the program or Windows forces the code to stay on the same core. In both cases it's just over 25% CPU usage with the extra cores not actually being utilized.

2667v2 boosts to 3.6 on all cores in my single cpu jinghsa, you have to put in the values in the bios for power duration limits though.. I just put in 250 everywhere and the machine now sustains 3.6 for hours in stress testing
I picked up an older 4 node, dual socket per node, and 8 cores per socket 2U blade server relatively inexpensively and it's been blazing fast for all of my HPC/CAE/FEA/CFD applications -- things that can make use of all 64 cores across the four nodes.
For the price, it's actually served me very well. I've been able to do a LOT of things with it that I just wasn't quite as able to do, in a timely manner compared to before I got this system.
In other words, old, used server hardware can still put up quite a fight even against more modern systems at a significantly lower cost.

Built an LGA2011 development server with dual hex core Xeons and an Intel server board. Surplus Apple memory was a good price (more than half the cost of the system was memory). Like the video says - it ain't gonna game. As a dev server with a dozen VMs on it, it'll do everything we need. dual CPU power connectors is critical - I spent a couple days cobbling together a solution for that because our PSU didn't have 2. And if you're going to run something like a Supermicro dual NVME card - make sure the board is new enough to support PCIe bifurcation. Learned that the hard way, and ended up having to get a second NVME card, with only 1 NVME detected on each.

I ran a dual CPU machine with two E5-2667v2 with a GTX1080TI since about 2 years now and it is a hell of a machine. Surprisingly good for gaming. And no, I wouldn't recommend this configuration. @Linus: But you have some sort of performance issue. The CPUs should run at 3.6 GHz on full load. In Cinebench R15 you should get ~2500 and not ~2250.

It was around in the west already before christmas 2019. A whole lot people were sick then and have been found with antibodies despite not being sick since then, and antibodies usually only appear when you've actually gotten sick, not just asymptomatic cos they usually have too little virus to cause any effect.

I am using one already for one year works so good but you need a lot of fans and coolers
The E5-2667 v2 are nice.. but the E5-2673 v2 out perform them.
For the E5-2673, in BIOS, settings:
Set power to performance ,
Disable C states,
set to 6 cores (each)
disable virtualization
Populate all the DIMM slots.. min 16GB per CPU. (my system has 16 DIMM Slots, w/4GB sticks in each, for a 64GB total)
As much as ECC doesn't seem to like OCing.. "Force speed" to 1600MHz and then tighten the timings (I got my Hynix to 9-9-9-11)
You'll basically be running 12C/24T Xeon at 4GHz all cores on noticeable RAM settings
It's what I did with my workstation while testing its limits and it gave me surprising results.. but my Single Xeon 8C/16T, E5-1680v2 OC'd to 4.7GHz with the 9-9-9-11 RAM timings, surpassed the dual CPU setup in most titles my son plays (Valoranat, Overwatch, Modern warefare, Ark Survival, etc).

Way to tear down my current 16-core Xeon rig! Lol! Everything’s really blown up over the past few years after being stuck in Quad-Core limbo for so long, these new CPUs outclass everything that used to be considered “high end” in the professional server field and that’s just the consumer grade stuff! I think there was a lot of dependence on GPU advancements that CPUs didn’t really get much attention for innovation until now. Looking forward to seeing how dual 128-core systems perform! :)

If an application is designed to be single threaded and without the OS assigning specific cores to each process, then you'd see the processing jumping between the cores, and that would also have the worse latency due to extra ram and cache operations. It is a problem in ryzen too to a lesser degree because of the separation in dies and separate caches, effectively it is also a 2 CPU setup on a single socket.
As far as I know, there *is* a bios with turbo boost enabled (at least for "x99" platforn)
Plus 1866 ram could give additional juice for the system.
Turbo Boost works in X79 ootb, in this case you have to enter the power values in the bios for short/long duration etc.. just put in 250 everywhere and the 2667v2 will boost to 3.6 on all cores :)
