I'm an aircraft mechanic and while I'm sure people find my job fascinating I find your job fascinating. It's incredible to see the level of efficiency such an operation as McDonald's has been streamlined down to. Everything has a purpose from the tools, to the order of operation's, to the clear skill you have. While I never really looked down upon others in jobs like this I never really got a behind the scene's look like this as I never worked a fast food job so I never had a sense of understanding. Watching this I want to thank you personally and anyone else who is reading this no matter what you do because here's the fact - it doesn't matter if you flip burger's, turn a wrench, broker multi-million dollar deal's, or just answer a telephone. Your job is important - all our jobs are important because it's what makes the world go round.

This is me everyday in the kitchen. I'm a stay at home homeschooling mother and cook 3 hot, from scratch meals every day for my family. We ALL eat different things (different food tastes, aversions etc) so I'm cooking 3 different things at each 3 separate meal times. I've mastered the art of time/task management in cooking and have managed to reduce "dead time" down to negligible amounts. I don't let dirty dishes to pile up in the sink, to be washed later. What I do is I boil water in the kettle, fill the sink with that plus the same amount of cold water and add dish detergent. I fill up the sink with fresh hot/cold water mix 3x a day. As I cook, I wash up so that at the end of a meal all that's left to wash are the plates, cutlery and cups. I immediately put away washed dishes after washing these last items. I use a timer at all times when cooking in order to get consistency in the quality of the meals I cook. I also keep a running shopping list and will immediately write down the name of a food item as it runs out so that it doesn't slip my mind later when i sit down to write up my weekly shopping list. I only shop once a week with a list i 100% stick to. There is no impulse buying in my life. I have also set up my kitchen to be as efficient an environment as possible. I also only have minimal tools so i dont need much storage space. No one taught me these techniques. I am self-taught. Before I became a mother I was a bookkeeper, so organisation and time/task management were already natural to me when I made the switch to staying home full-time. These skills of mine are versatile and easily transferable into any type of job. I could easily work in a MacDonald's kitchen and feel right at home.

The key to that is what goes on behind the scenes from ingredient ordering, correct storage, preparing for each service (to me this is a big part of this managers McDonald's success) and then out to customers. It's a lot of logistics and even orders that some ingredients are not wanted eg sauce never seems to be a problem for this team.

The food industry is one that gets no appreciation unless you’ve worked in it. It’s viewed as “dirty” or a job that people settle into and can never get out of or it’s only for lazy people. If even half of the white collars walked into a busy restaurant for 6 months they’d hate it. I worked in a deli for 5-6 years in my busy town in northern NJ. Lots of tiring days, customers being unappreciative or impatient when we’re crazy busy during the lunch rush, and a lot of learning that goes into it. And on top of all that you need to be careful to prevent injury to yourself! Since those years, I’ve had a completely different look on this industry, and I wish others could see it too. Thanks for doing what you do!

usually when it starts to get slow, they'll start wiping down and sweeping and stuff but there's also specific times during the day when certain tasks will get done, so they don't go too long without cleaning up

At the McDonald's I work we are always sweeping and roughly every 2 hours we try to mop the kitchen. And around 2 in the morning we temporarily close so they can clean the fryers and the grills are cleaned and pulled out so the grease behind the grills can be cleaned and that roughly takes about an hour and then we reopen and begin the change over for breakfast.

It’s interesting to see that the McDonald brothers original ketchup and mustard dispenser design is still in use. 40 years ago when I worked for McDonalds, they were still made of stainless steel like the originals. We didn’t have those cool bun warmers. Do they still have those goofy training that I had to watch 40 years ago? Thanks for posting this, it’s very interesting. They have a ton more of the menu and they serve breakfast now which McDonalds didn’t do long ago.

They have one white castle location that's mostly automated because of it, I think. But ya, just curious if u have any insight or inside information on when these jobs will finally use autonomous machines
