    I am a Chinese who lives in London, and I just wanna mention that do not deify the "huge" "spectacular" achievement China has made during its rising. London Underground has just witnessed its 160th anniversary recently. Dating back to 160 years ago when the UK opened the first metro line in the world, China was poor and shabby. Western metropolises like New York and London at that time were viewed as equally astonishing and spectacular as modern China today.
    The auto-driving train reminded me of the London DLR, which is auto-driving as well, but it was opened in the 80s! That was many decades ago before any auto-driving lines in China.
    Don't forget the ageing of infrastructures. Though London underground is shabby today, it was spectacular in the past. And the same for China's infrastructure. What looks advanced today in China will become shabby decades in the future. At that time, outdated infrastructures in western countries will be upgraded and rebuilt, and there may be other countries, probably Africa, rising and looking great.
    At the end of the day, these apotheoses of the achievements of China and comparisons to other countries are meaningless. Because other countries like US and UK had managed to do spectacular things under the same (or even more) difficulties far before China. And what matters is not whose infrastructure is newer, but who made unprecedented innovations and remarkable advances first. China has just executed these advances after US, UK and EU, but the ideology of true innovations remains in the west.

      @RafaGoesAround  Рік тому +91

      I agree with part of your comment. I also admire the level of development of infrastructure in the west. They have certainly accomplished amazing things! What is more remarkable with the new transportation infrastructure here in China is: first the speed of transformation and the how many people benefited from it. Yes, you can mention London, Paris, New York, San Francisco, Chicago. They all have subway systems, I’ve been to all of them, and they are all shabby and the lack of proper maintenance and upgrade is evident.
      Second, when you compare how many millions of people can benefit from them, you will also find a huge difference, China has metro systems in 47 cities with more than 9500 Km of urban rail nationwide. And many more under construction.
      Also don’t forget the average cost of using these systems, it costs less than a third of that you can pay in any system in Europe or Japan for instance.
      So yes, it is certainly impressive and it deserves a lot of credit. So these achievements compare to other countries are far from meaningless. Thanks for watching and for your comment.

      If u want to talk about the past, I could also say alot of terrible things that the west had done in the past. What really matters is NOW in which China is rising and the west is declining day by day. If u still dwell in the past, u and your west will never be able to move on and rise again like China does

    Wow, thanks for making this incredible video! I just searched some info online regarding Shenzhen subway, and learnt that the first station began on December 28, 2004. Between 2005-2010 they only had 2 subway lines. The construction exploded since 2010 and now they have 474 km of subway railways & 308 stations completed and in operation. They will expand to 650 km by 2025. This is amazing!

      One can hold both positive and negative thoughts simultaneously about a nation. I understand they have an old and proud civilization, great rail system and gleaming metropolises. You can also get arrested for holding up a blank sheet of paper or disappeared and tortured for complaining or criticizing the government who just gave itself unlimited power and no term limits. They are known around the world for stealing intellectual property and pounding their students’ minds into conformity with rote memorization. Not only did they lie to the world about Covid, costing countless lives, but their domestic Draconian Covid restrictions destroyed people’s livelihoods and even ability to get food and medical care.
      Democracy in Hong Kong was basically destroyed. They are committing a genocide in Xinjiang and are cavalier about starting a war of aggression against Taiwan and potentially WWIII. They are highly obnoxious and aggressive toward their regional neighbors, violating international norms around fishing, airspace, etc. The government controls their media, their thoughts, and even their reproductive planning, which is leading them toward demographic doom.
      No place in the world is perfect. But there is a fundamental difference between freedom and slavery. I don’t hold a single bigoted thought toward Chinese individuals or their diaspora. But the country’s government is authoritarian and that’s worth fighting.

    I must admit that China has shown that they are exceptionally good at designing and constructing buildings, factories roads and infrastructure. They are also the best at extra large and complex projects such as dams, HE plants, airports, nuclear plants, arenas, stadiums, building or expanding islands (Homg Kong Airport and in Souyh China sea ) which they are able to do in record time and at unbelievably low prices. They have done this even outside China as part of their image building program. They will soon have more completed projects than the USA. The are successfully binding other countries to side and taking over as the leading Benefactor and source of Foreign Aid, leaving the USA tied up with EU, NATO, Ukraine, Drug Wars, Venezuela, Central America, Immigration, N Korea, Cuba and other Old World issues, plus our own internal political and social meltdown.

      @@xiongjiezheng824 Changing regimes quickly is itself not the bad thing. It is the lack of oversight from the voters that is the problem. But then we can say the same for every system: lack of oversight = incompetence and corruption. The strength of fast change over can prevent a bad regime from screwing up things for a long time. The bad side is when the electorate is lazy, stupid and confused then they can't tell if the incumbent regime is bad or good.
      The other good side is that the institutions of the government are stronger than an individual leader because fast regime changes require strong, independent institutions to operate even within a crisis, or transition or a really terrible regime. It is ironic that the US is still Somewhat functioning during and after trump because the institutions chugged along despite his attempts at destroying the government.
      There are good and bad points, the problem with the US and some western countries is that the bad points are really really bad right now and the good points are not enough to cover for it. And they have no idea how to get out of the quagmire.
