Where the Lighthouse shines across the bay'
There's a cottage kissed by spume and spray
Cheerful logs to warm the winter days,
    Are blazing.
Listening to the breakers on the shore,
    From a tiny cottage,
    Thatched with straw,
    There's a fair haired lassie
    At the door,
    Star gazing.'
    What more to say.
    Such poetry.
    Such prescience,
    Such prose.
    Such aching beauty.

There seems to be no room for this type of music/narrative in the world of today - such a pity - many singers (not that Conrad was a singer) seem to shout - perhaps they could spend time in the company of Grsby, Bowlly, and Vallee

ACE! Love this. From Terry Wogan's breakfast show back in the late 70s/80s. He played this relentlessly and then would poke fun at it but in a nice way.

I was growing up with this in the early 1980s , me and my mate ( who were into Punk rock at that time ! ) we used to listen to this on the radio before school ! We just thought it was quirky and strange !

I have a cassette recording of this with Terry doing his thing. It still has me in fits of giggles, I'll be sad when it wears out.

He left us way too early. Now I also know him as a singer!

I have NO idea who Terry Wogan is, but I'm a Conrad Veidt lover, so I am disappointed he's not singing this. He's TALKING.

Terry Wogan was radio presenter on bbc radio one from the 1970s until a couple of years ago when he died. Loved by every one. He was behind and in front of childrens charity " Children in Need".
If you want to hear him, you can type Iin " Terry Wogan - Janet and john stories." Very funny stories with double
      Entendres.
Also he was on "Desert Island Discs" three times on bbc radio 4 , talking about his life and music he loved. Listen , you won't be disappointed.

Also a Conrad Veidt lover. I have no idea why he did the "talk-sing" thing on this recording - the scene in the movie it's from ('Contraband', I think) certainly called for singing. It could be that he sucked at singing, but, from the last few lines he has before the repeat, he >seems< to be able to discern which notes to sing, and to have a DROP-DEAD baritone voice

I think Terry Wogan was the man who first got to play Eva Cassidy on the radio

It's Where the Lighthouse shines across the bay.
Not When the lighthouse shines across the bay.
    Please correct this error.

Wogan was brilliant, not like the child Ms Ball today on the morning show, and as for the evening, John Dunn would be turning in his grave, with the puerile rubbish Sarah Cox comes out with. What happened? Bring Back Simon Mayo and Johnny walker.
