    Pokemon theory:Why can't your character run without using running shoes

    • @BDT17
      @BDT17 9 років тому +10

      +Roger chung They're expensive Nike's, and you don't want to walk too far away with them in case someone beats you in a pokemon battle and steals your shoes.

    • @roroC777
      @roroC777 9 років тому +1

      Kirsty Shadowdancer but the problem is that your character litterally can't run without running shoes

    • @Feraligatr13Original
      @Feraligatr13Original 9 років тому

      +Roger chung Not necessarily, maybe your character is simply choosing not to run.

    • @roroC777
      @roroC777 9 років тому +2

      Feraligatr13 but you are the one controlling your character and he can't run when you're pressing 'run' but when your character obtained the running shoes, he/she can magically starts running

    • @Feraligatr13Original
      @Feraligatr13Original 9 років тому +2

      Roger chung That's true, but you don't necessarily control everything about your character. For example, you don't control how your character dresses (except in X/Y, where you can run from the start) or what your character says. Your character can choose not to run until he/she gets shoes that are fit to run in.

    I always attributed it to a penny, healing potion =$3

    • @Darksilverjesse
      @Darksilverjesse 9 років тому

      +Darksilver jesse and the attack payday was basically a "hand full" of pennies thrown at high speed at the opponent. would hurt like hell and not damage the economy. like $0.20 to $0.50 per attack.

    • @ProtoMario
      @ProtoMario  9 років тому +4

      +Darksilver jesse If you look it's actually less than that, it's something like .00075 cents.

    • @Darksilverjesse
      @Darksilverjesse 9 років тому

      +Lain Campbell (Lolly) well I mean a pokeball cost 300, in pennies that's $3, but at his calculations it would be 22.5 cents. economically a $3 pokeball is more believable than a 23 cent ball. right?

    • @laincampbell9331
      @laincampbell9331 9 років тому +1

      That would make sense, because usually companies try to profit on their products, and i don't think that 23 cents really profits on anything

    I might be a bit late on the mark for this discussion, but wouldn't there actually be a fourth scenario here? The token Pokemon for this move, Meowth, is seen with a gold coin of sorts on its head, and it would make sense that payday somehow duplicates these coins. If paper money needs to be backed by something, coin money is usually the other half of this. Take the US dollar coin, which has a small amount of gold used in its production. A dollar coin is worth its value in gold and hence, essentially backs itself. If payday is a move that duplicates coins to this degree, it would effectively create more money without inflating the economy. But again, it also notably only does this in small increments. A single Pokemon battle would sometimes yield maybe 100 - 300 "poke dollars" extra, which means that this would still take a long time for any notable increase in currency.

  • @FrankieHiltz
    @FrankieHiltz 9 років тому +11

    Shit, THANKS! Everytime I watch a video and they mention the "high prices", and it makes me cringe because they're too ignorant to think that just possibly, "3000P" might translate to only 3$ in whatever currency the viewer has. I don't think I've run into a single video where someone else considers that thought.

    • @JuanCarlos-xx3ce
      @JuanCarlos-xx3ce 9 років тому +3

      Well 3000 is more like 30, as the pokedollar is representative of the yen

      @ryanamberger 9 років тому

      +Ryan Amberger never mind, looked up the bike price on google and it was 1,000,000 poke dollars. If a poke dollar is equivalent to the Japanese yen, the bike would cost $8331.91. Damn, must be one of those competition bikes like Lance Armstrong uses.

    p.s. you should just start having random, awesome pictures of characters giving a thumbs up when asking to like a video, it theoretically makes sense too. it makes someone want to give a thumbs up if a character they can relate to, or has a history with (Example: like first obtaining a machamp with a bestfriend back in the day, on accident at that!)

    payday gives you roughly 5 dollars when your pokemon is lv 100. a battle takes maybe a minute, maybe half a minute. so you woul be able to earn 300-600 dollars an hour. if you have a few pokemon batteling wild pokemon simultaneously you can get a few thousand dollars an hour... that will defenitely make you rich ^^

  • @MCPunk55

    Economics hurt my head too much. There was an episode dedicated to Meowth's Pay Day but they never said how it affects the economy. Maybe the money the attack uses is not valid - does not have monetary strength, like monopoly money. In the game, it's an incentive to have a Persian. The more Pay Day is used in combat, the more money the winner gets. It's good if you're in a tight spot for that 10th Full Restore or and 100th Ultra Ball for Lugia but it's clear that the games and the anime don't work the same way.

  • @Draspee
    @Draspee 8 років тому

    Pay day yields 2-500 poke depending on level, depending on Gen. Paydays description says user throws cash. conclusion: Pokemon is attempting to explain inflation as a result of payday, or meowth is using pickup to gather do and then scatters it.

  • @bluefoxbrawler
    @bluefoxbrawler 9 років тому

    My guess was you simply moved a decimal place over twice to get a more reasonable amount. So that 3000 pokedollar Full restore WOULD be 30 US dollars (3000 -> 30.00) which makes a ton more sense. So I can agree w/ you on that Proto.

    Hey Proto, in the Japanese versions of the pokemon games the currency is the yen instead of the pokedollar. When they rbought it to america they didnt want to change it to the regular usd because like you said it would be unreasonable for a 1200 pokeball so they made their own currency up to get past that.

    I don't understand the foundation that Pay-Day is an economy breaking move…
    I mean, it doesn't magically make monkey appear out of thin-air. Meowth is described of loving round shiny things such as coins, and can't help but pick them up and stash them.
    The way I understand Pay-day, Meowth simply tosses it's surplus change that it has collected on the opponent, scattering those coins around. Meowths can't use this ability forever, it will eventually run out of coins it's collected, translating into the move running out of PP.
    Pay-Day doesn't make magic appear from nowhere. It just uses the leftover change that the pokemon using the move have collected from other places.
    This Theory is bad.

    i jsut thought of something. payday might not actually be doing anything to actual currency but creating valueless tokens from raw materials it perceives as most valuable at the time. kinda like crypto currency and certain tribes using seashells and beads and those precious metal coins and bullions used for stockpiling wealth but not actually used for currency. in the end meowth/persian coins are valuable enough to substitute for currency when in a pinch but too volatile to be a main source of income

So, this begs the question, why do they still use money, even if Meowth, who was one of the original 151 Pokemon discovered, was walking, breathing, inflation?

    i'd like to think that in Gen 1, it was a different world that perhaps Giratina has to hold such as when in the Anime Ash got to meet his pathetic mirrored version.
    When we got Leaf Green and Fire Red, it was a totally different dimension. In Gen1, that dimension needed the people to create the money because of the war. In Gen 3+ (to gen 6 and beyond) something different happened.... The war was ended abruptly (gen 3-5 say a peace treaty happened). Many lives were lost but not as many as in Gen1 and 2.
    At least, that's if your going to speculate a fictional world's lore without a cannon source. Since Gen 1 and 2 are different from Gen 3-5 and different from gen 6. I also blame Red of THAT dimension for the release of Pay Day TM16. Pretty sure he's hiding out because he got of age and participated in the war, many lives lost because HE was pokemon league champion so he had very strong pokemon and returned home to only have to live in secret. Could be why SOMEONE needed future trainers to have the Surf TM that was hidden in a hut in the Safari zone you literally have to race to to get to and you only got a limited time to get to that hut. The guy is baiting Red to get the TM Pay Day.

    I feel like money isn't valued as much in the Pokémon world as it is in the real world. For instance, if you lose a battle you pay your opponent or if you get flustered by losing to a wild pokemon you can lose money and not be phased. I feel like money is only there to exchange goods and therefore Pay Day has little effect on the economy because people don't really care about money as a whole.

    How has no one thought of this: The Meowth collects shiny things, such as coins, and THOSE coins are what it attacks the enemy with. Pretty sure Meowth can't just produce coins out of thin air. So really, Meowths payday doesn't affect inflation at all, because the coins it is using for its attack were already in the economy, it's just that Meowth was hoarding them.

    This isnt to do with pokemon, but is buying the higher quantity (3) or is buying 3 for 2 cheaper:
    A bottle of water=£1.00
    The water is 3 for the price of During the price decrease, it gets half price off. It doesnt effect 3 for the price of 2.
    Is it cheaper to buy the 3 separately or to buy it in 3 for the price of 2

    I vote for number 3... I think, though the way you stated it is mostly incorrect.
    Because payday usage is more or less constant, it doesn't dramatically effect the poke-economy. Going back to the gold analogy, it would be like if some jerk bought a gold mine and started mining gold. As long as the amount of gold he produces is more-or-less constant, and as long as he spends his gold on things that are necessary for him to produce that gold, and as long as that gold is allowed to circulate through the economy properly, the new gold will actually be a deflationary pressure on the economy, because even though it is "new money," that "new money" is offset by the multiplicative effect of money passing from person to person, and also offset by the costs of acquiring this money (in this case food, mostly.)
    In addition, the economy is self correcting. Whatever the cost of feeding 20000 meoths in cages using payday like slaves, that is likely where the ultimate value of 15hrs worth of constant payday spam is likely to settle, give or take some minor inefficiency in the market.
