Sunset Riders [1991] Arcade vs SNES vs Sega Genesis (Version Comparison)
Sunset Riders- is a side-scrolling run-and-gun shooter video game developed and released by Konami as a coin-operated video game on the JAMMA arcade platform in 1991. The game is set in the American Old West, where the player takes control of a bounty hunter who is seeking the rewards offered for various criminals.
The coin-op version was released in two variants: a two-player version and a four-player version. Home console versions of Sunset Riders were released for the Sega Mega Drive/Genesis in 1992 and for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System in 1993, to a positive reception. - Ігри

Man, SNES knew how to port those early 90s Konami arcade games.
The Port was really phenomenal..
unfortunately they censored it a lot. They took out the Indians and the girl who throws dynamite was replaced by a guy in red.
There a fanmade Port for the Sega Genesis that going to be more accurate like the SNES version..
@@joe77andino Thanks for letting me know about the fan made Sunset Riders. The SEGA version looks like it was sabotage or left in prototype status. The fan version look and sound and plays great BTW. The gamer normees would have us all think, it's all in the hardware, just because it suits some Nintendo fanboy narrative. Both SNES and SEGA Genesis can do a lot more than most know.
I just downloaded thr arcade version on Switch from Arcade Archives. I dont remember playing this as a kid, but Im glad to have access to it now. It has that early 90s Konami charm that is hard to replicate. Its a fun game.
I'm surprised that the Super Nintendo Version kept most of the intro intact.. The Sage Genesis Version is playable but feel like a completely different game..

How are you surprised off the SNES port?! It had the hardware to nearly but not exactly match the arcade version in color and sound. The Genesis version felt lazy and incomplete thanks to the developer, not the console.
There’s is a fan project to restore the genesis version proper though

I like that the Sega version is different, same name different game. There's a romhack that brightens the colors too
MegaDrive original version is a whole different game, I saw on the web that someone is on the work to port the proper game to MD
Oh dear, what did they do with Genesis version? It is a far better console than what this conversion would state! Shame on the devs for not even wanting to try. SNES version looks pretty nice though. Especially considering that one could play it at home.
Genesis came out in 89 and snes 92 , so the SNES had better graphics Genesis could only do so much

@@kamranki no it couldn’t. Genesis was very known for poor color and the mono sound. Some of their games needed a chip added for more Ram for either speed or color. Sound quality has always been the bad part of Genesis(Mega Drive). Only Streets of Rage 2, Sonic and other Sega exclusive games had great sound but it’s still nowhere stereo unless you hook up your headphones to the Jack then you can hear stereo output.

The Genesis version looks fun, clearly went with a different look/version of the game, not sure why. The SNES version looks great. I’ve never played this, I will have to check out both versions. 🍻
arcade snes. the genesis is bad mostly in graphics and color downgraded however is playable but does not represent the arcade version

Konami did a bad job with the colors on the Sega Genesis version. But there is a color hack which fix it.

And that is why you dont give a game to a small team of newbies while all the experienced staff are put on the SNES version.
MD version is still a wonderful game
Man, if the SNES port was amazing, I can't imagine how good a Simpsons Arcade Game port would've been
Its a shame LJN had the console rights to The Simpsons locked down...
Genesis version is still plenty playable. Played the crap out of it on Sega Channel back in the day. Of course the SNES version is superior in this case, the devs definitely could've done better with the Genesis version. The Genesis was capable of much better.
I pretty sure the MD version could have been a bit better. Seems more effort was put into the snes version.

Mega Drive version pales in comparison. But worth noting that Nintendo wouldn't let companies like Konami port at game to the sega system that was the same as it was on the SNES. So games like Turtles and Sunset Riders had to be different. This only changed when SEGA got big enough for developers to stop listening to Nintendo's threats.
Genesis version looks like one of those bootleg plug'n'play games lol
Konami's output on the Genesis was all over the place. You'd sometimes get dogshit like this, and sometimes get "Just as good as the SNES" efforts like Castlevania Bloodlines.
The explosions look much better on Genesis compared to SNES. It’s a shame the SNES version didn’t get the alcohol or prostitutes like the arcade and Genesis.

Funny thing is I grew up playing the genesis version. Therefore the original version of the game looks like a completely different game to me lol. They literally made an another game for genesis. Gameplay, locations and even soundtrack are completely re-made. I think that's even cooler than porting the exact same game with less grapchis and sound.

@@SomeOrangeCat well yeah the genesis port was only a 4 megabyte cart because the megadrive was a flop in asia so konami didn't want to risk a loss because of that.

Sorry to write it but the version for Genesis is unwatchable. In this porting they could have done more.
The reason for that is Konami used less memory to save on costs because the megadrive was a flop in Japan.

Sega Genesis: missing 2 characters in the selected players screen + missing 2 characters in intro presentations screen , Sega Genesis version almost different version + doesn't look like Arcade version

Indeed, the Genesis had a lot less colors, but that's not the reason the game looks bad. It simply had not the same effort put into it, and the cartridge size was like half of the SNES version.
