Thanks Tsilios100, check out our Roarockit bags, we make them specially for pressing skateboards. Heavy duty, comes with pump, breather, extra seals and instructions. 6 different sizes.
In your other videos (made earlier than this one, I think), you show and recommend applying glue to both wood plies that end up bonding with each other. But in this video, you show glue only being applied to one ply, not both. Am I remembering this correctly? If so, when did your recommendation and practice change, and why? Is the total amount of glue still approximately the same?
Hi Jonathan, you are sharp! Yes - we do instruct that you can apply glue to both sides. It's really matter of timing. If you are working alone, and trying to do all 7 (or more) layers, you might not have enough time to apply glue to both sides. So important to keep all the glue wet before it goes into the TAP bag. But if you have help and can work quickly, we do suggest applying a solid coat to one side, and just wetting the other side. It usually doesn't change the amount of glue you use, as you're really using an already wet roller. Assuming you are using Titebond III, which is water-based, you are raising the grain on both sides of the sheet before pressing. The water from the glue does that, and literally knits the 2 sides together when pressed. It will still happen with glue on only one side, just maybe helps a little more to apply to both.
@@Roarockit Thanks for the reply - informative as always. One follow-up: If I wanted to laminate a maple deck with epoxy instead of glue, would your recommendations change much? I realize you can't reuse the roller and so on, so I'm mainly talking about how much epoxy to use and/or the technique of applying it.
@@JBH123 you're welcome! You can use epoxy, we recommend getting 2-part marine grade slow set epoxy. Yes, it's a one-time use for the roller, but any thin-nap roller will do (foam not recommended). Mix up small batches of epoxy so you don't waste it, and apply a thin coat to one side, thicker on the other.
hi there! I was just wondering why you keep saying that you only got 7min to work with titebound 3? I used to work with titebound 1 and 2 before but I was told that number 3 is much better because it gives you more time to work before it starts drying
Hi Shamus, sorry for the delay in responding. The label says you have 20 minutes of working time, but when you are spreading out a thin layer over a large surface, it will dry much faster. Our trial and error lead us to standardize at 7 minutes leaving you with another 2 minutes to stack, insert into the TAP, seal and pump all the air out before the edges start to dry. TB1 and 2 have even less working time. Also TB3 is waterproof when dry, important if you get caught in the rain!
im looking into the pintail kit pre cut with bag from your site, does the mold include a cut out to prevent wheel bite? if not can I cut into the mold to make one? and if not would i sand down to add this? and would this jeapordize the board structurally?
+Humza Battla Hi Humza, you can totally do them all in one go. It's just a matter of time. We are following our written instructions to help illustrate the process to anyone that has purchased a preshaped kit from us.
Is it possible to just buy a bunch of preshaped molds? I know you guys sell just the foam but I didn’t see preshaped molds available themselves. Really interested in the ghost rokit shape
@@theendangeredpetrolhead Hi Sean! Sorry we missed your comment! We don't usually sell the preshaped molds on their own as they will inevitably break in transit. If you are interested in getting a few or adding one onto your order please send me an email at taryn@roarockit.com and we will see if we can get a custom order set up for you!
Yes! A board built using the Roarockit method is as strong, if not stronger than a board made using a machine, as more care and attention can go into the creation of a handmade board. On a standard longboard build the Thin Air Press exerts over 7000 pounds of pressure! Many of our customers have been riding their handmade boards for years and years!
You could use a board as a mold yes but that is not the board you want to ride. It is made from the dimension of the outside of your board. You could use that board to create a mold though and from that mold you can create the board you want to ride. I hope that makes sense =) think about it.
Eric is correct. The suggestion to wait an extra bit of time is also very useful, allowing it to sit in the bag under pressure for a long period of time allows the materials to settle and helps against warping and springback in the long run.
Vacuum cleaners generate *very little* pressure and are not suitable for vacuum bending. You will need a high pressure pump like our hand pumps to get the project under sufficient pressure to laminate properly. Vacuum cleaners are handy, however, for taking out most of the air, speeding up the process a bit.
Hi Francis, we don't provide templates or shapes to download but they're out there to find if you keep looking. Have you thought about creating your own template? Street decks are very basic and a great starting point for getting creative!
Hi, the TAP bags are closed systems in that they are designed to hold a vacuum indefinitely without leaks. Compressors and vacuum pumps can be used to help evacuate most of the air but you will risk burning out the motor if left running too long under maximum pressure or having a leak if the compressor shuts off. If you want to use your electric pump, the cap of the valve can be removed to reveal a pass-through about 1/4" wide. You can jam and seal some rubber tubing in there and run your compressor BUT what we suggest is to use a regular household vacuum cleaner or shop vac to evacuate most of the air followed by maximizing the vacuum with the hand pump. This will be the cheapest, fastest method and the hand pump ensures that you're getting maximum vacuum/pressure out of the TAP bag.
How many uses does the sealing bag withstand? I'm looking into purchasing this to try with different types of woods etc, so I'd like to be able to use the bag for a while.
Hello! Please see our reply on your other comment - but with the proper care and maintenance the bag can be reused indefinitely! We supply extra sealing tape that you can replace on your bag in order to keep it airtight for many many pressings!
Depends on your speed, stamina and if you're using any tricks to speed it up for yourself. Best tip? Use a vacuum cleaner to suck out most of the air and finish it off with the hand pump. I'd say that method is probably 30sec to a minute.

It would be great having an extra video how to build the bombora drop deck.
I couldn't tell from the video, but is the sealing strip reusable or do we have to buy several sealing strips when we buy a bag?
It's reusable I believe

what machine was that? a vacuum machine? where do i sell
It's our Thin Air Press vacuum system! You can see them at www.roarockit.ca/tap-kits.html
how would i go around making a smaller deck for my son? are there different size foam forms i could get or would i have to carve a smaller one out ?
thank you!
How much pressure a vacuum bag creates over a board? Thank you!
if you were going to press all the veneers at once how long would you wait to pull it out of the bag?
it would be around the same amount of time, but personally id wait an extra half day. so 36ish hrs

There is any different thick a Roarockit veneer from the regular veneer Skateboard company??how thick the veneer you have??
All of our veneer is 1/16", the only exception is we also offer street deck crossband in 1/22".
Where I can download a skateboard template?? 8.0 size??
