Made a deck with some veneers from you guys 4 or 5 years ago with a custom maple and oak face on the bottom was some good wood and after skating the hell out of it no chips a little bit of delamination but other than that help up good and I just retired it a few years ago still has a little bit of pop even after skating it down some stairs and drops so if I make another board I’m definently going to buy veneers from you guys
For the graphics? You can use pretty much anything that will mark the wood. Think of it as a wood canvas, there's tons of ways to apply graphics! In our classes we use acrylic paint because it is easy to work with and clean up.
Not necessarily. Sometimes you can use an old deck as a mold, but you would need to precut the veneers to the shape of the deck first, as opposed to pressing up full uncut sheets of material. You will want to use an actual 1/16" skateboard for this as well, plywood does not bend as easily and will most likely not take on the full shape of your mold.
***** We suggest using 1/16" solid wood veneers. We carry Maple, Birch and Bamboo, all at the same thickness, but each with their own unique properties. A Spacebag will not work or hold up well pressing multiple times. Our vacuum bags are specifically designed for laminating and bending skateboard veneers.
thanks for the vid the ply before you glue it is it vaneer? whats the thickness? how many plies total and where would i get the vacuum seal bag? please get back to me
Hi Derrick, you can find answers to all of your questions in the tutorial section of our website. You can also purchase a vacuum bag there. Visit www.roarockit.com
I really am not a troll or a hater but making a board this way is cool if you want your board to crack in a week. it looks like its great for a cruiser but definitely not for street skating. that mold is not efficient enough to make the proper concave to hold a board up, you need a really deep mold for that that needs to be made from concrete or steel. wood works good but only if its CNCed, like i said, for cruisers it maybe fine but for street skating, no and you always need to make a rough cut in order to ensure your final shape comes out perfect, spare $23 and go get a template router bit to ensure an excellent shape.
+chuck Core Hi Chuck, did you have problems with your TAP kit or material? Maybe I can help you with your mold? It sounds like you might have missed a step or didn't glue up properly for your board to crack in a week. Please, don't hesitate to reach out to us, we'd love to help you out with your design. Building a deck is an incredibly easy and accessible project that doesn't require professional tools and hopefully I can help smooth out any wrinkles in your process.
+Roarockit no, I was just express my view point cause I don't want kids to get the wrong idea about making boards and thinking this is the only way to make boards. because once the kids start thinking that then they get a big head about it and think they are master builders. I've seen it already. I've been making boards for 10 years and run my own brand so when people who've used your product try to school me on making boards it's just ridiculous. don't get me wrong. it seems like a fun way to make a board and it's great for the beginner but definitely not the only way to make boards.
Adam Iadonisi Hi Adam, the process of lamination forces the sheets to bind as tightly as possible through pressure. You don't need to worry about how an individual sheet looks.
Avve N The vacuum bags used in this video are our product. You can order them from our website, and the price varies depending on what size bag you need for a project. The bag in this video is the 20x70" bag and costs $100 for the full kit :)
Can I use any other thickness of wood where it will still have the same effect?? Can't find any where other than you guys that sells it that thin. Please help?!
MrBluemonkey03 Ehhhh, the other standard that people use is 1/8th baltic birch (factory-made plywood) but 1/8" material is twice as hard to bend as 1/16th. If you're building a simple concave longboard you can get away with it and a strong press but I wouldn't recommend it for more complex curves like drop decks, compound curve rails or street decks.. Send us an e-mail, I might be able to help you find supplies.
If you use the system properly, the boards will come out extremely high in quality. A lot of builders we know have never had a deck break. That being said, no skateboard manufacturer will guarantee their boards won't ever break... it happens.
I want to order your street deck kit. that is preformed but I was wondering how it look from a side view.. if I order can u guy form the tail and nose to have a little more of a pop.. I try to find email to send info but could not find. if I was to send you a deck that I have can you form the mold to that deck.
The 20x70" TAP bag is the one to use for most custom builds. Depending on your projects, you may need a larger bag, but you can't really go smaller as none of the uncut veneer will fit in that 14x47 especially once you add the mold. An important reminder, you can't have the TAP seams stretched open. There's a lot of vacuum being generated and that would pull the seams apart. There must be a margin of flat vinyl all around the edges while pressing. I hope that helps!
Humza Battla Like those clothing and linen vacuum packers? I've never tried but I would judge that the seams and plastic are not designed to draw next-to-perfect vacuums and would likely rip or break during an attempt. If you're going to try this, don't use glue and do a dry-run so you don't ruin any material.
MrBluemonkey03 You can give us a call otherwise check your local sources. 1/16" maple veneer for skateboards isn't the easiest thing to find and we do everything we can to make that easy.
kokajr Once you have the board in the bag, it needs to dry for 8 hours. Once you take it out, there is at least 1-2 hours of woodworking to get it smooth and finished..maybe more depending on graphic applications, etc.
+Sean Smith It all depends on what kind of build you'd like to do and what tools you do or don't have. We have an all-in-box kit for pre-shaped builds that start at 125 and go up to 215 based on the shape and number of boards included. Custom builds like the above vary too much to give an average cost. Hit me up with an email with what you've got in mind and I can help guide you to what your first order might look like. im only 13 but i'll make it work i'm spending 2 years on making 100 skateboards for my customers then im going to make t-hirts and stickers my website is called SKATERSUNITED
We have a bit of music in the video that unfortunately prevents us from putting subtitles on that one. Check out Ministry of Wood for a written tutorial with pictures of how to do the same thing.
You'll need a set of trucks which consist of a baseplate and a hangar. You fit the baseplate of the trucks to the 8 holes we punched and drilled. The wheels fit on the hanger which attach to the baseplate.
he welles? Do you mean wheel wells? If so, they can definitely be added on afterwards, but this builder didn't feel the need for them on this specific board. Your setup and risers can help avoid wheel bit on a top mount board as well. gabriel Alexander
Radical. Thanks
this is the best tutorial to make a d.i.y. skateboards thank you so much guys you have opened my mind!!

That's how skateboards are actually made: On drugs
Do you guys sell that roarockit ruler?
Thanks for the tutorials, making a skate company for a school project! All proceeds go to charity!
Oh and after the project 5$ per deck goes to charity.
What Veneer would you suggest using?
Also would a regular spacebag work?

do you have any recommended measurements on truck placement for a 7.75 in. board?
How far do the trucks have to be from the tips?

I just bought 7 layers of the wood but it looks like it warped a little. Will it still glue together?
Adam Iadonisi Hi Adam, the process of lamination forces the sheets to bind as tightly as possible through pressure. You don't need to worry about how an individual sheet looks.

What size kit/bag is good to get to press that sized vaneer? And what size vaneer is that? I know its 1/16" thick but what's the length and width?
Hi Bobby, in that video we used 12" x 48" veneer cut down to about 10" x 37" and used our 20" x 70" Thin Air Press bag.
Any board review guys? Share with me please
oliver zambrana There is only one Thin Air Press vacuum bag :) It is our brand of vacuum bag
How is this different from the vacuum package for clothes?
+Arkadron96 A vacuum package for clothes would tear itself apart

Where can I go to buy the veneers other than online??
MrBluemonkey03 You can give us a call otherwise check your local sources. 1/16" maple veneer for skateboards isn't the easiest thing to find and we do everything we can to make that easy.
What kind of wood are they using?
kokajr 1/16" Canadian Maple Veneer
Thank you guys...and by the way how long is the building process?
kokajr Once you have the board in the bag, it needs to dry for 8 hours. Once you take it out, there is at least 1-2 hours of woodworking to get it smooth and finished..maybe more depending on graphic applications, etc.
What size drill bit did you use
/16" - some builders prefer to go up to 13/64"
woops! 3/16" haha
How much would this be to do at home ?

Is there only one type of shape?
Nope, you can make any shape you want! That's the beauty of making your own board with our system :)
Where did you find the skateboard template
Dylan Boland We made it! It is an original design by one of our staff members, but we do have a video that shows how to design you own :)
why do you leave the ends flat?
That is just his unique design he chose to use
i'm making my own skating website so this should help me im going to save up money to buy materials :)
Right on Nathan, feel free to contact us when you are ready :)
ok I will
im only 13 but i'll make it work i'm spending 2 years on making 100 skateboards for my customers then im going to make t-hirts and stickers my website is called SKATERSUNITED
i'm very commited into making my website become a store where people can actually buy stuff I guess in 2017 it will be done
nathan your selling the website
Ok, thanks a lot!!!!
We have a bit of music in the video that unfortunately prevents us from putting subtitles on that one. Check out Ministry of Wood for a written tutorial with pictures of how to do the same thing.
How do You pu ton the wheels
You'll need a set of trucks which consist of a baseplate and a hangar. You fit the baseplate of the trucks to the 8 holes we punched and drilled. The wheels fit on the hanger which attach to the baseplate.
good video :)
Nice teaching how to make a board
The flat ends on the final deck bother me sooooooooo much
haha totally understandable, but the best thing about building your own custom skateboard is you can make it any shape you want!
You don't need a shop press???
Our vacuum bag process makes board building more accessible and is much easier than setting up a typical two-sided hydraulic press.
With a press you can create more extreme and deep shapes and building a press is not even very hard to do.
im your 5.600 sub
love how the nose and tail are all lumpy and arent smooth...you guys do great work HA HA HA
what happened to the sound?
There was an issue on the back end of UA-cam, should be all fixed now :)
The tip of the board was flat
+Harry- Playz Yep
congrats
ok, thank you.
what about he welles wrost skate bord video ever
he welles? Do you mean wheel wells? If so, they can definitely be added on afterwards, but this builder didn't feel the need for them on this specific board. Your setup and risers can help avoid wheel bit on a top mount board as well. gabriel Alexander
If you add translation to "How To Make A Paper Template For A Custom Skateboard" or subtitles will me much easier. Please
