You know that God Telephone Gag Ellen did? She thought of that when she was depressed over her girlfriend's death in a car crash. See fact is that she just drove past the accident her girlfriend died in. She had no idea till she saw it on the news. She had it bad. And now I'm just happy for everything Ellen is experiencing now :)
In Desert Storm we had a rec tent with a TV, VCR and a stack of tapes, movies, whatnot. In there was Ellen DeGeneres stand up special and I watched that so many times. I liked the joke about things tasting bad, and for some reason it makes you want everyone to taste how bad it is. haha she says it better. And she kept making jokes about doing drugs, not really, yes OK I do drugs.. no no just a joke... ok yes, really I do cocaine. She's hilarious.
No, most people knew. She came out in '97 on Time mag saying "Yep, I'm Gay". So she was just reaffirming what most people already knew by then. People knew in 1994, too. She chose the word "Yep", because everyone already assumed she was gay. It's like she was saying "Yep(you're right), I'm Gay". She just never officially announced it until 1997.
the grandma bit is still one of my all time favorite lines i think its hilarious when she said " now we dont know where the hell she is" this isnt even Ellens best, other stand up act she has here around youtube are amazing
My Lord, is that what we wore back in the 80's? I must have looked hideous. Yes, most of that routine was on her Johnny Carson debut, so what, you use your jokes as often as possible if the audience is new.
I watched several of her early stand-up performances repeatedly, and it was amazing. No wonder she was named "America's Funniest woman". With talent and hard work, we knew she could be so successful later. She is a national treasure.
It's been week since I started loving this beautiful person and I think I'm never gonna stop!! #2021❤ and I'm here and every ellen fan should watch all her shows before Ellen show came up.❤ I love her ..
As far as I am concerned, Ellen is the funniest person alive! She is very clever and can pull a joke out of nowhere. She deserves every bit of her success!
This is one segment taken from the HBO special "Women of the Night" from 1987, hosted by Martin Short. It also featured Judy Tenuta, Paula Poundstone, and Rita Rudner. It aired on July 11th, 1987.
Who else noticed that she did almost the exact same monologue with just some parts cut out that she did on the johnny carson show where she had her first tv appearance
I don't know but somehow I feel she resembles Queen Of Hearts Lady Diana. Specially her hair style and her smile compels me to think in that way. She was superb pretty and still she is. Love you Ellen.
Colin MacKinnon Then I disagree Carlos Mencia shows was actually funny as for his stand up I heard he stole material from other comedians so that's lame, Sarah Silverman has her moments but she def funnier then Steve Martin and as for Bob Sagat he's hilarious now I truly see you're more of a defender of good ol Martin gj White Knight :)
She's so cute and her voice is soo sweet. Love herrr
still?
I think it just depends on your preference on humor. I found her jokes quite funny actually and very witty. Her delivery is what makes it even better.
@Language Lab how do you know it's not their job? What if Empire is a comedian?

She was gorgeous.. Oh dear God, her eyes are the most beautiful i ever saw.
This is the ellen i remember. Such beautiful eyes and a beautiful smile
What I've always liked about Ellen is that she never plays "blue". her comedy is thoughtful and kinda innocent
She seems to me child at heart .. Innocent

"we dont know where the heck she is" omg that grandma joke was amazing
Ellen is one of the funniest & witty comedians ever. Love her sarcastic humor!

So no one thought she was a lesbian before 1994?
aveuch I remember before she came out my mom would always say “I think she’s gay/She seems like she’s gay”
She came out in 1997.
Back then if a girl tried to look like a boy, usually a lez

@@NeonCherryBlossum Well maybe you didn't
Ellen was so pretty with great voice and humor. I love her till now. She is very special.
BTW she also adds knowledge and lessons through humor.
She still is
the grandma bit is still one of my all time favorite lines i think its hilarious when she said " now we dont know where the hell she is"

Pants are horrible but look comfy as hell

Dunno I find her outfit pretty neat
My Lord, is that what we wore back in the 80's? I must have looked hideous.
Yes, most of that routine was on her Johnny Carson debut, so what, you use your jokes as often as possible if the audience is new.
Yeah, this audience didn't seem as receptive. She started with some different jokes, though, so the composition has a different lead through.
she is sooo cute... goofy n cute...and funny...
I have a bad crush on her, like, a very bad crush... and I'm not a lesbian.. :p
me too....i resolve to not put a label on it ....i guess its some people....
Don't worry - the theory goes, women are emotional, so likely to be more fluid in their sexuality.
haha okay :p
You must be a guy then :P
Lilly Filly i can relate to you..
She was a hybrid of Pricess Diana and Meg Ryan. Beautiful.
She said the exact same routine in the Johnny Carson show, like not the rapper or deer bit but the rest is exactly the same! X
I had no idea she started in standups :) She seems to be a very kind person.
the point being that nice people couldn't possibly have started in comedy:) ?
the most expressive eyes ever seen
Oh God she was so cute
She looks like Meg Ryan here.
1987 - Women of the Night special on HBO. Ellen Degeneres, Judy Tenuta, Paula Poundstone, and Rita Rudner.
I watched several of her early stand-up performances repeatedly, and it was amazing. No wonder she was named "America's Funniest woman". With talent and hard work, we knew she could be so successful later. She is a national treasure.

1:12 so dancing HAS always been her thing. I just thought she started doing it only AFTER she started her own show.
I just watched the Carson show..she's using the same jokes :x But I still love her.
She looks like Kristen Stewart!

Am I the only one who thinks she looks like Meg Ryan?
Same!
Joyce Salome same
Joyce Salome maybe even a little bit like Princess Diana?
Me, too.
It's been week since I started loving this beautiful person and I think I'm never gonna stop!! #2021❤ and I'm here and every ellen fan should watch all her shows before Ellen show came up.❤ I love her ..
I’m always out there fighting her haters. What scam that was. Fake news
Her eyes 😍
Who doesn't like them
2:05am for me. Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!

Anyone know is this is before or after her first performance on Carson?
She WAS quite hot, definitely, back in the day.... fresh energy, fresh outlook..... Makes a difference
Thumbs up if you thought the boy at the beggining was Ellen...Lol
Her jokes are never laugh out loud funny to me but her charisma and timing are impeccable.
I Love You Ellen
As far as I am concerned, Ellen is the funniest person alive! She is very clever and can pull a joke out of nowhere. She deserves every bit of her success!

This is one segment taken from the HBO special "Women of the Night" from 1987, hosted by Martin Short. It also featured Judy Tenuta, Paula Poundstone, and Rita Rudner. It aired on July 11th, 1987.
I love watching her old shows!
the phone call to god bit was in taste this
She was way funnier back then
Way back in the early 90's, prehistoric human hips were much higher than they are today.
LMAO just before I scrolled down and saw this comment I watched ellen come out and the first thing I said was exactly that.
Who else noticed that she did almost the exact same monologue with just some parts cut out that she did on the johnny carson show where she had her first tv appearance
Same jokes still funny
Damnnn she cute af
Preach. Was not expecting that AT ALL
I'd hit. (if she wasn't gay lmao)
"Let's try that note again ... Oh, to hell with it!"

She is adorable here. So cute.
She's parachuting!
I love this woman like Crazy
I don't know but somehow I feel she resembles Queen Of Hearts Lady Diana. Specially her hair style and her smile compels me to think in that way. She was superb pretty and still she is. Love you Ellen.
I love Martin Short!
it's the same things she said on her television debut! exactly the same :O
Some of it like the beginning is from her appearance on Jonny Carson
I just watched the one on Johnny Carson and yep its the same.
it says it is 1978
looks like mc hammer when shes dancing :DDDDDDDD
so in love with her !
"I LOVE ELLEN"
the hair ! the shirt ! the pants ! the shoes ! :D
Well, this is the same routine as was on Johnny Carson Show....
she's gorgeous
Well Martin Short showed how easy it was to entertain an audience back then by simply being loud and annoying.
Much better than some of the so-called-comedians of today.
Colin MacKinnon Hmm like Kevin Hart? if so I agree :)
Actually, I was thinking more like Carlos Mencia, Sarah Silverman, or Bob Saget. None of which are funny.
Good point, him, Clay, Murphy, etc... I never got how any of them got soooo popular, and even some got there own shows, whaaa????
her voice has changed
Why is no one talking about the epic intro. I want that guy introducing every comedian lol
Martin Short
she's really pretty!
Her accent! HAHAHA! Love her.
love her dance moves 1:12 lol
If I were her age at that time, I'd totally have a crush on her, she looks so much like Kristen Stewart
i dont usually laugh at stand up but this... omg so funny
what year is this? obviously the eighties...
loveee the shoesss :)
The hair too!
What year is this?
Did two minutes of Googling and this was probably in the early 80's
It aired on HBO in 1987
she is so fucking silly...
She's perfectly gorgeous 💖💖💖👌🏽
oh AND she hosted the oscars
She awsome,I love you ellen♥-♥
her voice is sooo different than what its like now!
"God bless ya, oh bless yourself!" LMFAO!
Reminds me of a young meg ryan
how did no one know she was a lesbian even back then?
What makes you think they didn't know ?
...because it didn't matter then and it doesn't matter now!
She is good
