Just wanted to say I really love the constant content from you guys. I enjoy all of your videos and you really give me a break from the day to day bs. Great review!
I see my local Total Wine has it for $31. My palette seems to align with Scott's pretty closely, so yes, i'll be acquiring this one. Appreciate you both. Thanks
I like Dickel Rye, but their Tennessee whiskey is not for me. I always get that orange vitamin note and am not a fan. This bottle has that note toned down and instead has that candy corn/ popcorn note. It is very good and less than $30 in my area, Good job Dickel. Keep up the good work guys, I love the content you guys consistently put out, Thanks.
I haven’t tried this one yet. I am a big fan of Dickel products so I assume I will like this one as well. I have seen some bad reviews of this one so I have been hesitant. Most of the time I agree with how you guys rate your bourbons so I will definitely give the Dickel 8 year a try. I like how you guys talked about how you like when you sync with each other. I actually like when you don’t. As you talk through your scores there are things one of you may like about a bourbon that I don’t like and vice versus. Keep up the good work guys.
You guys get spoiled with the bourbons you get. I love Scotch and Irish and bourbon, but in the UK I have zero chance of getting Dickel, Colkegan, Ironroot, New Riff, or Del Bac which I would love to buy. I always drool like a hungry dog when you guys find a peach of a whiskey I can't get. Cheers guys!
I like the reviews and the banter, even the TEST IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIITTT! Even learned a new word today; "butterscotchery"! Is "butterscotcheristically" in the future? 😁
We believe everyone should drink their whisky their way. Some drams I hate with ice, but there is some bourbon that I won’t drink without it. The flavors stair step as the cube melts. It can be very interesting. Bart
I am not normally a fan of Dickel, but this one tastes very different. That mineral note is very faint, you really have to search hard for it. It's sweet, with the tiniest bit of spice and a little oak to it, and it goes down very easy. The proof is a bit low for my tastes, but the flavor is great and overall I like it.
It's interesting how available Dickel products are with age statements given how other age stated stuff flies off the shelves. I'm scared to buy more myself due to the mineral notes (vitamins) I get from their stuff. The Dickel 15yr old is a bargain at the price (70ish near me) but still pricey in general. I have an unopened BiB 11yr old. Just can't bring myself to spend money on it with how much other great stuff is in that range.
I'm guessing it's a simple as some executive at Dickel back in the early 2000s being smart,.. or lucky,... enough to keep production up even when sales were down. Tasting this 8 year, I suspect that it is an entirely different mash-bill, because it tastes very little like any Dickel product I have ever had. I like it considerably better than the 11 or 13yr BiB either one,.. even at the lower proof.
No mineral note in this one, probably due to not going through the Lincoln County method of maple charcoal filtering. The other Dickel you see on the shelves is also not age stated. They other Dickel's are only "number 8" or "number 12" and not the actual age of the whiskey.
@@ScotchTestDummies If you look at the right hand side of the front label, it states that it is in fact charcoal chill filtered. That is probably why Scott got the maple charcoal note.
Nice review. Regular Dickel is still a Bourbon. Charcoal filtering is allowed for Bourbon. Evan Williams BiB also charcoal filters. When Dickel and Jack Daniels is exported it is classified as a Bourbon.
Scott and Bart after this review I may just have to a bottle of Dickel 8 yr. I have cussed Dickel since college, a very bad experience!
Lol. Usually where hear the word “Jack” and bad college memories. Give this Dickel a try. It good.

@@ScotchTestDummies LOL! Have a safe day Gentlemen, especially if you're on duty!
Ice ruins whisky my 2 cents

I stand corrected, jack daniels single barrel goes better with ice for me
$40?? Got mine for $30 in Ohio. Has not arrived yet here in PA last I checked.
Nice price

@@StillLivinginthewoods yeah I think the distinction this is bourbon and not TN whisky is why they did that if it doesn't have that vitamin note

And we agree with you. Bart
R u bringing the numbered coins back?
dont know yet, we will do the next series "cask 6" but they may not be numbered.
Sounds like a good pour for the price point.
definitely.
Morning Dummies! Have you been tried the Barrell Armida? Cask strength and aged in three different casks. Really great nose and full palate.
have not, but will keep eyes open for it
@@ScotchTestDummies I think it might almost be up there with Blanton’s as far as flavor and complexity.
I like the plan to move to 80-based ratings, and I like erudite baristas (not to mention bartenders)!
thanks bigdog!
now your going to have to redo every bottle and rescore them
we'll get started on that
The grading scale is really weird to me just say everything is either an 8 - 9 - or 10 at this point.....
Now, you know we are some weird dummies, right?
George Dickel = Drain Cleaner!
Not this one!
I bought the more premium, barrel select. It was horrible! I couldn't even drink it, drowned in soda and ice.
