  • Bill Burr's new Netflix movie was supposed to be anti-woke. Instead, it was a love letter to toxic feminism.

    The film started well, and even has some very interesting scenes where Bill Bull's character exposes the hypocrisy of the woke agenda, but it went downhill from the middle to the end.The three guys remained just pets of their "perfect" wives

    Great video! As a Gen X Dad ('76) myself, I have enough respect for myself to walk away from any of those women without saying a word. I have been married for 19 years, had 3 children. One of kids died from brain cancer when she was 11 yrs old. My youngest is non verbally autistic. But I am still married through it all, and being the best Dad and husband I can be. I don't put up with crap and I respect myself, and I don't care what society thinks.

    Man, the way his wife never had his back with that principal, then even threatened later with a divorce because he was angry and standing up for himself, after that embarrassing dress down in public in front of the other parents. The way they never addressed that later, that got me. For a moment I thought I was being overly negative.
    Great video.

      @@mysocalledgenxlife What is woke about wanting to make a marriage work and take responsibility, being a better person for the people they love even if those people rarely returns the favor? What is woke about wanting to stay with their kids and watch them grow up? What is woke about realizing how not everything needs to be a heated argument?
      What is woke about not wasting our short time on Earth angry and fighting?
      What is woke about being a better father to your children?
      Did you not see how he trashed that pompous cyclist after he went away and resume playing with his kid rather than have a heated argument with him in front of his family?
      Are you just another woman pretending that you did not get offended about how women were portrayed in this movie thus making excuses without sense?
      Bill Burr is not a tribalist, he trashes both left and right along with his wife on specials and podcast from time to time.
      It seems you're irritated that he took the less taken highroad instead of standing his ground and be miserable for the rest of his life.
      Not everybody wants to pick a side in this culture war, there those who want to stay in between or out of it.
      You're talking about a guy who defended Gina Carano when lefties tried to destroy her life, have some respect.

    I agree with your assessment. I literally hit play the exact same way you did. With a bowl and a bellyful of excitement. By the end? I felt like I'd been had. It had moments. But it was all sparks and no fires. Sad trombones kept playing in my head. ZERO chemistry between Bill and the "actress" playing his wife. I get where Bill was going with his character. I think this started as a pitch to showcase Bill's private fight with anger issues. I am also GenX, like Bill, born in 1968. It's sad to see Bill caving to the WOKE DEI rainbow feminazi message driven drivel. So sad.

    We can say it now. Hollywood has made Bill Burr soft!
    I think he identifies with a different culture from the rebel that was George Carlin, that is Dave Chappelle. He also has a very stubborn and argumentatively leftist wife, although the stubborn part might be something they bond over since they both seem stubborn to me. I can't help but notice her influence with this premise. I think Burr's culture is closer to Archie Bunker, where you accept a certain wobbly set of assumptions and if any of them get challenged, whoa boy, that might mean they'll have to learn something! We can't have that, now can we? But see, I think he also respects the "woke" on a certain level, just that he doesn't understand it enough to call these people on their shit. Los Angeles, namely the San Fernando Valley, Santa Monica, anywhere there are middle class white people, it's everyone trying to upstage everyone else on being "impressive", and of course being woke is among the allotted "impressive" traits with them, like apparently overpriced clothes and botox. There are targets everywhere for Billy Boy out there, but I guess he's overwhelmed.

    • @mischief.brewed
      @mischief.brewed 8 місяців тому

      Yeah cos Carlin wasn't a leftist haha

    • @alanfike
      @alanfike 8 місяців тому

      George Carlin said that it's unfair that so many people are homeless while rich people use land for golf courses. Lenny Bruce, who Carlin idolized, was also not at all someone who could pass for a square in the '60s (his drug use was beyond reckless, shameless doctor shopper) and whose own arrests sometimes for merely saying words like "toilet" on stage -- for obscenity -- was the spark who would inspire Carlin to do his 7 Words bit that got him arrested (for reference, those were piss, shit, cunt, fuck, cocksucker, motherfucker and tits; we should be taught it after the alphabet in "kinneygarden" /joking). Leftist doesn't mean "soft". Stalin was a leftist. The belligerent North Vietnamese and Chinese generals that used to argue with Ho Chi Minh were leftists. Meanwhile, how "hard" is Newt Gingrich? Donald Trump? Charlie Kirk? Fucking Joe Rogan? "Please don't tell people I took horse dewormer for COVID or I'll call you a liar" Rogan. A conservative, in my opinion, is someone who portrays everything that they aren't. By that, I mean that I think conservatives tend to be emotional chicken shit anti-intellectual tyrants who constantly argue that they're a victim while they despise that people who are different from them are allowed to vote. Conservatives would, many have arguably tried, to sell their children into serfdom through their choice of leadership of policy that serves the public only after the wealthy have received their fill. We're only stuck because conservatives care more about sabotaging plans that they aren't mature enough to even reasonably consider than to provide any reasonable solutions. All year they've used their majority on McCarthy's stunts and now they're picking fighting during formal hearings.
      I wouldn't say Burr's politics have anything to do with it. I don't think he gets very political anyway. His brother's some state level politician, so I think he prefers not to interfere with his brother's political career and get a walloping the next time he sees him.

I just really didn’t like this movie because every woman was insufferable and didn’t have to take accountability for any actions. I think the point of the movie is that nobody should be forced to change for the sake of others. However, there's always room to adapt and try to find common ground with those you disagree with. There are always lessons to be learned. After all, there were times when it was socially acceptable for parents to abuse their children in the name of discipline.

    This movie was a great example of the philosophy of accepting life on life's terms. The world he lives in, and talks about on his podcast, is well represented here. It's a lot easier and healthier to choose to not be angry all the time, and that's the character's arc. "Compromise" is not a dirty word; it's better than being an old, angry, lonely guy driving an Uber, which is his implied destiny. If that's where his fate was headed, then how can you defend that being better than letting the anger go and being happy with his wife and kids. "My So-Called Life" was the wokest show of our generation BTDubs.

    • @mysocalledgenxlife
      @mysocalledgenxlife  8 місяців тому +5

      Yes his anger needed to be addressed, but the causes of that anger should also be. Accepting the world you live in…when it’s that disgusting and toxic towards men, is a weak notion and one I wouldn’t want anyone to accept. His wife in that movie was absolutely awful, and he let her call all the shots with threats of taking his children. It was a horrible arc. Yes, he needed to take responsibility. But the women were let off the hook and they were absolutely insufferable.
      As far as My So called Life, it wasn’t woke. That wasn’t a thing in 1995. Just because it had different character types, including an LGBT character, doesn’t make it woke. It was about teenage angst in the 90s. And it was a great representation of high school at the time.
      Thank you for your comment and for watching my video. I’m happy to hear someone disagree…because everyone having the same opinion is boring 😊
