A lot of people don’t understand Oakland but we truly the heart of the bay and anyone who move her visit here and actually experience the city knows that rich in history food culture and community 💯
I am so happy to have come across such a great video highlighting all the great things about Oakland. I was born and raised and am still currently living in Oakland. My city has always been painted in such a negative light by the media. It is so wonderful to see you showcase this beautiful city with its diversity, culture, food talent and more! You didn’t a superb job at the filming and production of this piece! You have a fan for life!
Oakland is a different vibe! The few times I've been I enjoyed it. If you all do a part 3 when things open back up. Definitely Souley Vegan, Kingston 11, Xolo, Bar Shiru (the most chill place), the Ferry Ride from Jack London to the San Fran Ferry Building, Pandora's HQ right across from Agave Uptown, AfroTech + Blavity, Plank, Oaklandish, Elbo Room, just to name a few.
Meeting 2PAC at age 16 in Montgomery Alabama when he was a roadie and backup dancer for Digital Underground was one of the most memorable experiences I've had. He invited me and my friends to come play spades after the show, but we didn't go. I regret it to this day...
Thank you for this HIGHLIGHTING OAKLAND!!!! Absolutely greatly done. The culture is amazing, the vibe is contagious and so many good eats. The healing community is growing and expanding. There wine is alright lol, but Black girls code… lit 🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽
Dude. YOU GET OAKLAND. I transplanted from NYC to SF, but Oakland is where I work, where I'm looking to move, where I go for restaurants--AMAZING: from michelin-starred to mad creative food trucks, diverse, technique-driven, community-focused restaurants featuring everything from French to Southern Soul, Ethiopian to Cambodia, and so many mad, inspired fusions (French/Soul Food; Italian-Spanish, Latin-American-Caribbean , Asian-American classic, Vegan Soul food, add a million etcetera) music, art, culture, tech: Oakland is what San Francisco used to be--a wildly creative, activist, bohemian, artistic, and truly diverse city. And, all due respect for Atlanta, but seriously: Oakland in my humble view is THE bohemian, intellectual, artistic, and cosmopolitan centre of African-diaspora communities (plural): fearless, entwined, both centered and mixing freely , intimately, romantically, artistically, with all of Oakland's communities, It seems like EVERYBODY is involved in the arts. And it is a beautiful city of lakes, art deco buildings, urban grit, gracious hillside nables, victorian homes, mansions, bungalows, new, old, evolving Oakland. Amazing city.
@@micohabit : HELL TEW THA' YAH. Do I disagree? NON. PAS DU TOUT. Not at all. as I note in my original post, I work in and hang about in Oakland. But I live in San Francisco, true. WHY? Because I cannot yet afford to move to Lake Merritt and Adams Point, where I'd like to live. Dig that: parts of Oakland are more expensive now than some peer nabes in SF (and we're not even talking about Oakland's Crocker Highlands, Montclair, Claremont Pines, Claremont, Upper Oakmore, et al. which have homes in the multi-million range) But I'm working on it....

Omg, I went online just to find some ideas for my upcoming trip to the Bay and ran across your feature on Oakland. I've spent alot of time in Cali, but I find myself most attracted to Oakland for the same reasons you cited. Thank you so much for sharing your such a phenomenal guide. As my trip draws closer the excitement swells, but even more so now after watching your feature!!
Tupac is from the Marin City Projects located right across from $5 - 15 million dollar homes. You should go there and do a tour. Oakland has gentrified and displaced the most African Americans out of low to moderate housing. Many seniors, students and singles (long term residents)are pushed out by techie transplants. We've legally assisted and bailed out people when they did Bay Bridge eviction protests. Joloff truck is first known at the Ashby Bart Flea Market (Berkeley). They came to Oakland after it heavily gentrified. My team helped advocate for more Black business permits that would allow vendors to park and sell on the lake. Cana( family friends) is located in Lake Merritt off Lakeshore, not downtown. People either need to have a high income and have a strong support system or solid family already in place if they plan to move there. It's only enjoyable and glamorous if you make three times the rent. Yes, we've donate funds to support Black Girls Who Code. We ♥️ Julia and Nancy Khan (mixed girls)! They both do alot for African American women.
